I guess if you're going that far you should patch it to run at 60hz instead of 50hz
I agree, though I don't consider it going "that far". It's a 30 year old game that has never been remastered or resold in any way, it never released in my country to begin with, and the company that made it is long dead.

It's fair game. If it somehow starts being sold on modern storefronts I'm happy to buy it, just like I did with Lunar and Final Fantasy Tactics this year.

One of the great late releases for SNES in Europe, really helped the console staying relevant and keep people waiting for the pretty late N64 release here.

Along with Prehistoric Man, Maui Mallard, DKC3, DBZ Hyper Dimension and SFA2 to name a few. 1996 was a very solid year. You don't need to be flooded with games as long as you get quality releases.

Don't forget about Brightis!
I have to admit I have never heard of it before! I watched a bit of gameplay and it reminded me of Hype: The Time Quest (the Playmobil video game where you play as a knight), which I've played the hell out of as a kid (it was mid, but I didn't know any better as a kid).

Did it, now?
Wikipedia says the game was released in 1996 in "Europe" and in early 1997 in Germany and France. The N64 released in Europe on March 1, 1997. Just from this, one can reasonably guess the game wasn't really relevant. Those other games you mentioned were likely far more successful, and let's not forget that FIFA was already a thing.

Not to bash the game, of course, but I doubt it was even a blip on the radar in Europe for most, in spite of the dearth of SNES JRPGs in the continent.

No clue about the sales, but the game was present for people to wait for the N64. I remember magazines reviewing it, and shops having it available. And it was a very good game.

Btw there is an ongoing project to retranslate the game called Terranigma Redux. This also includes some balancing changes / a few QoLs.

The current official translation is not great due to the limitation of characters they had to abide to. So a new translation is much appreciated.

Only the main story and few other dialogues have been retranslated for now, hopefully the next update will contain the full retranslation.

Well I have searched a bit (in magazines) and couldn't find the game being available before the N64 launch in France it seems, that's weird. I thought it was released in 1996...

Which publisher would you need to beg for a collection of the whole trilogy? I don't like playing on PC and I don't have any modded consoles rn.

Absolutely loved Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia, I should probably play this...

I still wish to see a Quintet trilogy some day so that I can officially play these games akin to Collection of Mana. My first time playing this game was on ZSNES back in the early 2000's and the music in this game is amazing. Such a shame the US missed out on this.

There isn't a good legit way to play this is there.
Square Enix probably forgot this exists.

Your best bet is to contact someone at GoG and see if they can contact Square Enix to add it to their preservation program, like they did with Breath of Fire 4 and Dino Crisis.

This is one of my favorite games of all-time, but I didn't play it until 2022 or so (my wife bought me a repro cart). Nintendo has the power... I would love for the whole "Soul Blazer Trilogy" to become available for SNES Classics online.

I always thought Soul Blazer was the most replayable, on par with A Link to the Past. Illusion of Gaia is my actual favorite (I chose to buy it over Earthbound back in the day, but I don't regret it). I had heard of Terranigma, but didn't play it until a couple years ago.

Terranigma is an absolute lost classic for me. The music, crazy story, and quality graphics are sooooo good for the time. Most important for me the music - absolutely sublime. I feel I have to share this music cover of the 1st overworld that should quell any haters -

* Combat was extremely easy for me, but I was so immersed in the game that I didn't care.

I'm probably the only person that has ever been excited to see "Colorado" appear on screen in a video game (it's close enough to home). The whole idea of traveling the real world with real world historical events happening was just so out there at the time, and it was absolutely awesome.

Anyway, I'll be there Day 1 if/when there's an official U.S. release. It was quite the experience to play through a "lost" childhood classic for the first time ever in my 30s. This is the first game that made me feel like a kid again since... Actually being a kid?

If I remember right, I got it christmas 1996. My last SNES game was Lufia 2, apart from buying SF2 - The new challengers in the Super Classic Series (that was REALLY the last SNES game I bought).
And yes, it helped against the N64 drought. Lufia was even postponed a few times, probably because Nintendo of Europe needed the extra resources for the launch of the new hardware.
