Arc Raiders |OT| Gaming's Next Mario 64 Moment™

Maybe it's already been posted, but you can trade in your Free Loadout Augment to the Clinic for one of the three lower tier Augments.

I get the feeling Embark and Bungie had the same idea with their "one more map soon after launch".

You give the game a month of vanilla sales and then you reinvigorate interest by showing off Mt Killimanjaro. That kind of carrot is more interesting than the standard new map other games get every 3 months.

This genre fascinates. So much potential.
Not going to lie, I like the other game more, but this isn't fair behind*. I think this is more or an extraction adventure (to steal the dev's term) and the other one is more 30 seconds of brutal extraction combat every 2 minutes lol.

The Loot is better in the other one so far. This is more about the journey. Both scratch a completely different itch. But we are eating good my friend.

Had some highly humorous moments in this game so far. A poster above said they wanted more story content. This game makes its own, the dev's don't need to provide much.

*so far

How many different augments have you seen in the game?
There's three Green ones, which are light. I've seen one blue (med) type and have several of those. There's more I'm sure since they have different bonuses.

So not very many yet.

First impressions of the Blue Gate map are mostly negative.

Map is much too open. If you get into combat there's almost no places to recover or hide.

Best map in game. Tons of arc, lots of probes, loot galore, unique exit compared to elevator, and long range weapons + aim are king.

Worst map doesn't exist for me yet. I'm currently exclusively on blue and dam.

I have one question, right now i have free chat for group and press a button to activate proximity chat, so if i play solo and i encounter someone friendly, how i include him in the group so i can turn off proximity chat and not be heard by everyone?

Unless the only way to speak with randos in solo is via proxy chat?!

Gameplay isn't anything crazy but I love the interactions with other players.

Some matches arw kinda boring, a few times I've extracted without even shooting once lol. But yeah other times it can get quite exciting, specially because of that human factor.

You and Luipadre Luipadre are the only two other people on GAF who can critique this game with a unique Marathon perspective. I'm definitely curious to hear from both of you there.

I'm trying to find valid ARC Raiders criticism now but it's hard to come by. I'm wondering if people think they did the 4 maps right? I generally like the idea of "progressing" to a new, more difficult map, but my impression (from the sidelines) is that there's no difficulty ramp on the 4 they give you? Not sure if I'm reading that right.
I kinda played marathon too for few hours.

You can dictate the pace 99% of the time.

If you want pvp:
-look for flares
-listen for gun shots
-camp extraction points
-go to heavy loot places on map

I always go in with the intent to work on a quest when I have a free loadout, and if I'm not using my free loadout I'm specifically hunting for arc items to amass items to level up the work stations, or be able to build key items like shield recharges etc.

Once you hit level 15 you have trials to do which is essentially a ranked mode with rewards to work for, and has a leaderboard.

I'm level 19 so I'll report back what changes at level 20.

I'm having the WORST luck finding a shotgun. In the TT2 and Server Slam I found Il Turro's and even Vulcano's frequently. I find tons of mod for them though.

You can flat out buy them from the weapon shop in town. Think they are 13,000? Pretty cheap.

I think they aren't common because they are extremely powerful in close range PvP.

my brother is trying to get me into this.
He said its like Hell divers 2? is that accurate?
He try to put me on space marine 2 and said that was like hell divers 2 as well..
so yeah...

I still have to do this several dozen more times before I can truly know...

Just played for 2 hours this evening for the first time. It's a really interesting game and I've had a lot of fun on the 5 or 6 raids I went on. Met some cool fucking people along the way too. The community in this so far is outstanding.

I think I went into the server slam with some preconceptions which put me off, but having read a lot of this thread I've taken a slightly different approach to the game and it's way more fun.

Sounds like he's found how to fuck you over and get you to buy anything. "Try this Elden Ring game bro it's just like hell divers."

Or he's a full blown retard and believes what he's saying.

This game is third person escape from Tarkov. Period.

I see the Helldivers 2 comparison. I don't think his friend is crazy for that. Obviously 3rd person Tarkov is more apt.

I believe Prox chat is the only way to go. I set my prox chat to toggle, that way if i hook up with a stranger, the mic just stays open.

The playing together part and blaming each other yeah

Just soloed a Bastion.

The end game in a lot of ways currently is trials and projects.

Doing an expedition is 6 phases and phase one wants hundreds of some items.

Also I need 6 bastion cells, an epic item, to get my work station to level 3… no god damn joke sons!!!

The nice thing is you can commit the items for the Expedition so they don't take up space in your stash. I wish you could do this for regular quests.

I shot a raider in the back for the 1st time. Opened an elevator and there was a dead raider inside. A wasp appeared, so I killed it since I need some parts from it. Another raider shows up and loots the dead guy, asked three times if he was friendly, no response. Three shots to the head from the Anvil and that is a wrap. Extraction complete. Never know if he may have turned on me. :messenger_beaming:

Someone just made out like a bandit off me.

Didn't die once all day but had full blue gear fully kitted out. I can only win so much damn it.

The loses of today will make the wins of tomorrow all that sweeter.

Or something, I'm kinda baked. Just had a game where I met some friendly dude that explained some stuff to me and was overall very friendly. Hooe this attitude from other people lasts, at least on easy/low stakes maps.

edit: just noticed that if you alt+tab while on queue, the game will show a desktop notification when you are going to the game. That's cool.

Killed 6 raiders, 10+ arcs, loaded to the brim. Can't get out cuz last extraction is across a death field of no cover and tons of arcs. Trying my best to avoid, caught, fight, lose to arcs.

I swear I've died more to a random wasp than anything else.

I have the game on pc and ps5.
I played the game on ps5 pro today with crossplay off and its very relaxed in solo with a lot of voice comms.
Might go back on ps5 after this hockey game

I agree that if Clair 33 didn't exist this would be my GOTY for sure. Safely secured second place.

My favorite MP in idk how long. Maybe since Destiny 1?

My first night playing (solo) yesterday went beyond my expectations.

I was ready to have a painful experience, with extraction being the exception, but I think I had over 70% survival rate. Shani (?) was right in the beginning stating that not the players, but the ARC are the real threat! If they get you in the open it's pretty much game over.

Lots of people in the solo queue are talking their way out of it with the VOIP. My tactic was to usually avoid player confrontation and try to stay in the raid as long as possible.
I feel like (solo) players that are left in the raid by then don't really fancy to risk their loot fighting other players anymore and we all just want to get out.

Some highlights were:
  • finding a purple key to a building I was next to in the last 8 minutes of the raid: stockpiled up on very good loot (40k+) and the last exit was also very close to it. Luckiest run I will ever have probably.
  • extracting with 3 other players in the last minute, we were all waiting for everyone to get in the lift, while some of them being chased by ARC.
  • completing 3 quests and having the dog collar in my safe slot in 1 raid.
In 4.5 hours I went all the way to level 11. I had a lot of fun, even when failing miserably.

Had a raid where me and a stranger ended up running almost the entire 30 minutes. We recruited at least 6 or 7 other strangers. Took out a couple of rocketeers and a leaper. We only lost one person. We all extracted togetehr, it was pretty great.

But with proxy chat you get heard by everyone and good bye stealth...
It wouldn't be fair to other solos if you could form a team. If someone can hear you talking then they probably won't attack anyway knowing you are in an alliance.

I think its right the way it is.

Yeah, I get it. But there has to be a balance between "dangerous" and "frustrating". I hope the developers are aware that true danger should come from dynamic threats, not static ambushes where the outcome feels predictable and unavoidable.

One of the most terrifying, yet dynamic, games I know is the PvE mode in the unfinished beta and flawed game Gray Zone Warfare. It strikes that balance very well, ensuring that skill, patience and decisions largely decide the outcome, and all without a timer... And, allowing players to perform every single action out in a open world field, including quest and inventory management, without ever seeing a loading screen is simply brilliant. I would love to see some similar ideas tailored to Arc sometime.

Anyway, I had a great time with Arc Raiders this evening. Honeymoon is going well :)

That's right. For now I much prefer the wholesome moments over psychopathic knee-jerk ambush gameplay. A lot of people are super-nice. I love it. But like already mentioned by others; we'll see what happens when people get bored and "the nice people" fall off.

I did turn on night mode. But the foliage doesn't make much of a difference to me in gameplay, and I prefer the nicer looking atmosphere over what is mostly a placebo or a minor issue in the overall gameplay. The bigger bushes where you can actually hide isn't affected. With that said, in a split second scenario of "first spot, first kill" it might be worth it.

But the video was good, several good tips in there.
Just to come back to the foliage thing for a second this video highlights it pretty well. I agree though I play maxed out personally for maximum eye candy but hiding in a forest thinking I can't be seen would piss me off.

Why crossplay off
Dunno, I'm on PC with crossplay on and the experience is inline with what he describes.

I will say I'm on a pad and the aim assist is off the charts. It literally locks on and tracks targets, without touching the stick. Surprised its not been brought up tbh.

Yeah Im on pc with crossplay on as well, play solo only so far, havent run into any wacky shit yet, im also using a controller

man, one day 95% of solo players are friendly and are happy to team up, the next, 95% want to back stab you on any occasion. I am still trying to work off the traders quests, but it has to be a good day otherwise its impossible. I even got proximity chat on and tell them i literally just spawned into the game and have a free loadout and no loot, and still get killed

Now i know, why i died so many times in the bushes, but couldn't see any enemies at all. They have to fix it asap.
