I'm gonna say $599. And the Steam Frame between $999-$1299.

$399

AlSo I think people are thinking it's a short Xbox series in size but its a 6" cube. That's tiny!

For something weaker than the PS5 in GPU performance and VRAM, i think $400 is a fair price. That was the initial price of the PS5 Digital. Anything more and they are getting over on you.

<600 (without controller or other accessories since you can use what you already have, whether controller or mouse and keyboard or whatever, more expensive combos for those if inclined).

The Series X is $599 now. This will probably match that.

700-800
Controller 100-120
Frame 900-1200

Steam deck was expensive for what it was on launch and this will be no different
They're emphasizing affordability in all of their messaging for the Steam Machine.

Gabe was cursing the loss he was eating with the Steam Deck in the PR for that.

I can't see this thing moving much if the entry-level tier is over $399. If you hit $499 you're in PS5 territory and you might as well just do that.

$399

I don't think the price is announced yet due to how unpredictable the tech market is.

I can also see $499, should the instability continue before launch.

$599 for 512gb and $799 for 2tb. RAM and HD prices are going to eat them alive next year, and I highly doubt they sell at a loss
That is about what I expect or at least hope. I have been pricing mini-pcs lately and people are going to be surprised (not in a good way). I do not believe Valve is directly going after the console market, so I do not think they want to eat the cost for these. I believe they are going after the (low end for now) PC market with Steam OS and these prices would be favorable in that market.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM VALVE PR

Steam Machine's pricing is comparable to a PC with similar specs.

Considering that the specs closely align with Nvidia's 3060 GPU, and the issues that arise from macroeconomic factors such as surging memory prices and tariffs, $799 would be a reasonable estimate for the 512GB model.

Jez Corden hinted that the machine's base price would exceed the post tariff pricing of the Xbox Series X.

Valve has already said it will be priced not like a console but entry level PC. So basically $599.

But if it's $399, I may consider getting it to use as a game streaming device for the TV. Controller will be $60 or so?

I am thinking $499 to $599. Heck, maybe Valve will go for $549 "base" model ala Steam Deck OLED.

I expect the headset to run for $900-1000, and that's probably a few hundred $ too much, but they can't subsidize it to the scale that Meta can where Zuckerberg can throw down $10-20bil a year like it is nothing.

$599 for the steam machine base storage model (does it include a pack in controller?)

$699 to $799 for the steam frame (base storage model).

$69.99 for the controller.

Going with modest specs was the right call or else it gets too high for a static box that you can't upgrade. Basically new Xbox and to lesser extent PS5 Pro disease. If they can pull it off at 400 it would really pull but that is probably too low, I guess it depends on Gabe's priorities.

it'll start at $600 and you know it, basically a consumer IQ test. valve doesnt eat costs on these "experiments"
as a result it will sell even worse than steamdeck, that at least targeted a specific niche.

Exactly
Base price was $399.
Not bad not bad I stand corrected. I think im remembering my oled being expensive or something anyways its a magical device I imagine steam machine will be more than the sum of its parts just like sd was.

The cpu is very strong which bodes well for the res its likely to be playing at natively before upscaling.

Incorrect.

Speaking to IGN, Newell said the company needed to be "very aggressive" in terms of pricing, citing price performance as "one of the critical factors in the mobile space".

While his immediate priority was on Steam Deck's performance and experience, especially in the hands of PC players, Newell said, "Price point was secondary and painful. But that was pretty clearly a critical aspect to it."

The implication is that Valve would be selling the Steam Deck at a loss. In comparison, the Nintendo Switch has always been sold at a profit, while the Switch OLED's higher price point also ensures it is sold at a profit, despite the costs of upgrades only estimated as costing an extra $10 per unit.

That's a PC with a dedicated GPU though. This is a SoC. I wouldn't necessarily say those are similar specs. If I were looking for the closest match from existing PCs then I'd look in the mini PC market.

Jez's guess is as good as anyone's

Does it come with a controller?

Yes
