Lumines Arise review thread (PS5, PSVR, PC)

Following up on the brilliant Tetris Effect was no easy feat, but Enhance has done it with Lumines Arise. At its core is an excellent puzzle game with lots of depth, and mechanics that gel perfectly with the emphasis on music and spectacular visuals. It's jam-packed with fun features that provide so many different ways to play, including series-best multiplayer and a great range of challenge modes. There are some very minor gripes if we're being really picky, but fans can rest assured that this is the big, flashy comeback Lumines deserves.

Lumines Arise is the culmination of Mizuguchi's works, returning to his original creation and perfecting it. For fans of puzzle games, fans of Tetris Effect, or, indeed, fans of pure and evocative gaming experiences, this is essential.

Like Tetris Effect before it, Lumines Arise lives up to the franchise's legacy. It's slick, stylish, and as addictive as ever. Despite my complaints and critiques of the game, especially those level transitions that take you out of the rhythm you've established, I look forward to spending hundreds of hours with Lumines Arise over the next decade or so. There was nothing quite like Lumines back in the day, and even though there are similar titles available today in 2025, there's still only one Lumines. A must-own for any puzzle game fan.

I was a huge fan of the original game on the...PSP, I think? I think it was PSP.

All I remember was playing this between classes at college. I was hooked!

This has my attention, for sure. Reviews sound promising.

Price is a bit steep, though. $20-25 and I'll bite.

First game I got on PSP along with WipEout Pure.

Looks awesome and can't wait to dive in. Some of these Steam reviews though...

Hoooo boy.....
Some poor kids are going to get their epilepsy triggered with this one.
Particularly the "On Eggshells" level with the birds, eggs and the piano music going crazy.

1.04.00->1.06.20. Gets really intense toward the end with those background colours switching.

You can turn down/turn off most effects in the accessibility settings

And the dancing Gecko's stage is awesome, there is (was?) a demo available, feels awesome playing it on Portal, only around 4 stages so relatively short but still great

Anyone else having sound issues in PSVR2 mode? I can't get either the TV nor my Pulse headset to have sound.

AMAZING game. Can't recommend enough. I loved the PSP version and this takes it to the next level - VR must.

Seconded this is the next Evolution of Lumines the Burst function feels way more validated in Lumines than in Tetris Effect's (Zone mode) .
One thing is missing HDR man that would make it perfect for now i have to be satisfied with Ambient light.
some of the Hydelic tracks has some real ear bangers. The Transitions from skin to skin is also just smooth and amazing... some of the skins really pops out and makes it a bit challenging to see what is going on but i feel thats part of the challenge and experience.

A bit expensive but i have not regretted this purchase. its so rare that such a well polished game experience is delivered these days.

Easily going to be in my top games of the year. Presentation is superb and the gameplay loop is still as close to perfect as you can get with a puzzle game. Wish I could play it in VR though.

Definitely in my top 5 of the year, music is amazing! I can't get that rainy day or the dolphin song out of my head!

You could argue it is not their best soundtrack ever, however it is definitely far and away the best visuals in the series and best gameplay with the new surge powerup or whatever they call it that doubles as a score multiplier + a get out of a jam backup plan. It is a must buy, unless you hate music and puzzle games.

I watched Skill Up's review a couple of days ago and realized that I have never played Tetris Effect.
So I got this instead for the Switch and have dived into 'adventure mode' before bedtime ever since. Great stuff for brain decompression; will definitely check out Lumines Arise as well when they release it for Switch (2).

Maaaan, I really wish this was coming out on Switch 2. It's such a perfect portable game.

Not having HDR is such a weird omission for this game!
