What game are you currently playing?

This was a fun weekend. Played a deep rotation since I had some free time.

Xbox Series X: College Football 26 (Road to the CFP), Rogue Trader, Ball X Pit, Ninja Gaiden Black.

Nintendo Switch 2: DoDonpachi DOJ (I absolutely sucked this weekend lol), Xenoblade 2 again, Vampire Survivors, Rabi-Ribi, Raidou demo.

Really fun weekend.

Wayfinder. It's 80% off right now as well.

Started as a MMO, publisher said nah, I'm out and put all the headache to the dev, Airship Syndicate. They somehow managed to turn this into a single player offline/co-op action RPG and I kid you not, it's not bad.

  • Optimization first, it's kinda bad. UE5 haha. I get around 60-70FPS in medium-high on a RTX4070 mobile with DLAA, 1440P with some heavy frame drops in dense areas or whenever a new area loads. The RNG dungeons however have a rock solid 80FPS lock. Nevertheless, I think it's perfectly playable if you fiddle/lower your settings.
  • The art style is incredibly lush and watercolor like. Very unique and signature Airship Syndicate, I love it.
  • The combat is fast, fluid and meaty. You have many characters that you can switch anytime and each have 4 abilities and powers. I like it even though gets a bit repetitive, it's nice. It's very similar to Veilguard but even more simpler and shallow.
  • 4 Main areas, that's it because the development has stopped. They are large and have a lot of stuff to do.
  • MMO to single player/co-op experience is a mixed bag. Area, loot and enemies all feel MMO. Rewards, progression, nearly everything is very, very MMO but quickier and without any monetization. It feels fun but rewards are very RNG and cosmetic given it was meant to be grind and all that MMO sheningans shit.
  • While the development has stopped there's enough content: quests, secondary quests, RNG loot dungeons, hunts, jobs, etc, easy 40-50 hours to 100%.
I recommend this, especially at 80%. It's fun and feels kinda unique, a single player offline/co-op MMO is crazy and cool.

7 hours in, I don't recommend this.

- optimization is horrible, constant stutters in any settings
- anything after 4-5 hours is the same, you just grind
- very very mmo: fetch quests, kill x, pretentious battle pass (towers lol), progression is insanely slow, it's just MMO but without MTX/timers etc. Feels almost like a free mobile game lol
- characters (wayfinders lol) are unlocked through RNG drops/crafted, basically gacha pulls
- bosses are boring and a joke
- again, optimization horrible

only good about this game is the movement and combat which feel pretty good but due to insane stutter and fps drops it doesn't feel good. Also blinding lights, seizure inducing VFX in "corrupted" dungeons with stuttering = headaches in like 15 mins.

Splitting my time between these four currently:

Arc Raiders
Tokyo Xtreme Racer
Helldivers II
Satisfactory

I finished Onimusha (with the original soundtrack mod).

I really liked it, they managed to make an enjoyable combat system with tank controls and a fixed camera perspective. Even with tank controls the character feels quite responsive. You can perform parries too, I discovered that completely by accident.

Only at the end of the game I realized you could upgrade Herbs to Medicines, lol. Well, apparently it's not needed on Normal.

The port is really barebone: 60 FPS only, 16:9 is just a pan ans scan of the 4:3 viewport (so it doesn't make sense to use it), and the backgrounds are quite blurry, they just ported them over as is.

I'm gonna play the sequel at some point

I played some Fate/Samurai: Remnant (PS5), doing platinum cleanup. I'm also on chapter 11 of Ninja Gaiden 4 (PS5), which is one of my GOTYs for this year.

Well having wrapped up the very 'meh, it was ok' yotei, im looking for my next and trying to decide between:

Keeper
Vampire bloodline 2
Hell is us
Dispatch

Zero Time Dilemma. I will say it's not as good as the first two but it is interesting. The different forms of time travel and transporting make it pretty confusing. There is a lot of waxing philosophical statements where some characters get into a tangent about thought experiments and cosmological ideas that aren't always completely related to the situation at hand.

I just came to a part where I'm pretty sure it's suggesting that a characters existence is a paradox. Also the brooch she receives is a bootstrap paradox where she gets it from her parents, and her parents receive it from her after she dies meaning it has no true beginning. My brain hurts a little with all this stuff.

Outer Worlds 1: 18 hours in its finally starting to click for me. Turning out to be pretty enjoyable. I still think the tone is missing the mark a bit but I'm finally enjoying it. Slow start for sure. Party members aren't great. 7 at best right now.

Ninja Gaiden 4: Starting Master Ninja mode. I dont stand a chance. This is some of the most aggressive enemy AI I've ever seen in a game. They're killing me on times I didnt even think I was open.

Close to wrapping up Luigi's Mansion via NSO. It's flawed, but really charming. I'm also at the last boss of DQ1 2D-HD. Adore this game. I've been itching to replay Prey (2006). I'm going to start it on Deck to see how it controls and fall back to BC on XSX if that doesn't work out.

Started up Oblivion Remastered on PS5 Pro. I'm in the mood for an old-school Bethesda WRPG -- wandering around exploring, with no particular goal in mind. Enjoying it so far, although I'm only a couple hours in. I appreciate the upgraded visuals.

Never played any of the Turok games properly, just got my copy of Turok Remastered trilogy. Nightdive rarely misses so looking forward to put some time into it.

Shinboi: Art of Vengeance

Finished this. Really enjoyed it. The combat was extremely satisfying. For the most part, the game is pretty easy, but I did find the final boss fight to represent a huge difficulty spike, which made it far less enjoyable than it should've been. They should've also had you use all your earned abilities during the battle, to make it more interesting. I'm going to see which trophies I can earn, and then try to get through Quake 2 again.

I decided to replay original Darks Souls, I'm craving for proper Souls game and haven't played original Dark Souls for a looooooooooong time.

Man original Dark Souls is such a different game compare to FROM's later games….some parts I consider very easy compare to later games and some parts much harder.

What surprised me was how generous parry window is in Dark Souls even with regular shield. By comparison trying parry in Elden Ring with regular shield is very hard unless you put ash of war that increase parry window like Golden parry.

I'm getting a little hooked on PD2. I kept playing, and sure enough, and the game got harder. I am having fun trying to blindly figure out the multiple routes.

The cursor could be a little faster. Otherwise, it's perfect. I think some would have a problem with the breather sections in what is essentially an arcade game. I have patience to go through those on multiple playthroughs, though. They can re-establish the atmosphere.

5 hours on the clock and I still feel a nice steady learning curve with just the base gameplay. There are so many nice subtleties right down to how to get the rythm of the fire button on targets at different distances.

I used to demo this game at Gamestation when I worked there, to silence the critics on how the Saturn was terrible at 3d games.
Surprising how many people stopped, looked, then asked me what it was and what it was running on.
Incredible game.
Best on the series (on rail shooters, not PDS)
And that music, just.. Wow...

omg the soundtrack is fucking great.

Super convenient that I can save mid-run, too. Sounds like a little thing but if it didn't let me I wouldn't think much of it because of the type of game and the time.

I completed Trepang2.

I know a lot of people compare it to F.E.A.R., but this is much more "gamey" than that. It's way more arcade, and you can see that in the level structure + the combat simulator.

Anyway, the game plays really well, it feels good to shoot around and use the four main mechanics (grab, slide, slow mo and invisibility) creatively. At higher difficulties you really need to know what you are doing and be aware of the enemy placement.

It's also relatively short and it's not needlessly stretched out.

You can find it for less than 5 EUR on key sites. It's a steal at that price.

Never heard of Trepang2 before your post, Mex, and I decided to Youtube some gameplay. Like the look of it. Bought it on Steam.

Flesh Made Fear
Bought this when it released on 31st October, but not got round to starting it...until today. Clear to see what old-school survival horror titles inspired this. Love that you can select between two characters and that the game tells you what the difference is: different locations and an NPC partner, it seems. I've only played an hour or so, but I'm enjoying it. Atmosphere great, combat is pretty functional, and it has a cool setting.

I went to read a little more about pd2 and I caught that the nights controller being unusable is a glitch with a workaround! I thought it was unsupported but kinda worked because there is a bad phantom button press that uses your bomb as soon as you move the camera. Turns out that can be avoided by unmapping one of the many redundant buttons.

So I just started a run with it. I had not considered it a big loss before, because the saturn analog controller kind of sucks, and provides very little control in it's throw. It's more about letting you point in 360 degrees. So like many games, the input is super sensitive and jumpy.

But the cursor moves way faster. There are a lot of places in the game where the dpad-motivated cursor cannot keep up with enemy patterns. At this point, I'd rather take too fast than too slow. So I'm going to try my best.

So far, it looks like I'll eventually get used to it. Painting lock-ons becomes a real test of skill and you can scoop up a lot of targets fast with the analog. Pinpointing to shoot straight is pretty tough, though. This can make defense harder and generally feels shitty. But the actual minimum increment you can bump it should be sufficient to work with. I just need practice. And I'll get practice. I'm legit into the game now and my goal is to break a million.

Another title right up my alley that I somehow missed on release. It's a Near Future Combat Flight-Sim in a combined-arms theatre.

Someone on another forum described it as the combat flightsim version of "on a scale of Mario Kart to iRacing, this is Forza Horizon"

For a an indie game there's a lot here: Full Mission editor, multiplayer PvE and PvP, 10 aircraft (including fixed-wing, rotorcraft, a STOVL/Harrier-like and a vertical-lift craft best described as the lovechild of a V-22 and a C-130), and a surprisingly detailed physics and destruction model (lead dev worked on BeamNG apparently).

Performance is great(I couldn't believe it's actually a Unity game) with proper multithreading and sensible visual targets.

Finally starting Dispatch after finishing up other stuff. Enjoying the ride so far but this is an animated series more than a game lol. Also started a replay of Quantum Break because I miss the vibes.

Oh and playing both on my brand new Legion Go 2.

Chapter 14 in Ninja Gaiden Black and i almost smashed my controller on a wall trying to beat Ghost Doku

Needed to take a break to breath
Some weapons make this fight easier than others. Ones with quick counters are easiest. I would recommend stocking up on items before spinal ascent on top of tower in next chapter.

Just got my platinum trophy on Alan wake 2. Very beautiful story, artistic direction, atmosphere and general impact, but the gameplay...not so much. Now it's time to start Baldur's Gate 3...all on my PS5Base, i'm scared.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition

I've already sunk about 30 hours into it in just a couple of days, what a fantastic game

I only wish it were a bit more cinematic. I remember Xenoblade Chronicles 3 feeling much more cinematic overall, though that's obviously expected from a newer title

I've also started Unicorn Overlord, but I think I'll put it on pause for now. I definitely can't juggle two huge games like this at the same time, lol

Man, I had this game in my wishlist for a long time. I guess I'll be removing it now ☹️

Outer Worlds 1: Pretty much at the end. Starting the DLC quests before I wrap it all up. Had a pretty slow start, but it finally ended up clicking. There were a few moments I thought were pretty good for choices. Probably landing on a 7/10 for this one. Looking forward to part 2.

Ninja Gaiden 4: Master Ninja, cleared stage 8. The hardest stage so far for me was stage 1. Was stuck on that for almost a week, just getting used to the aggressiveness of the enemies and the increased damage. After I finally got used to it, been clearing a chapter a day.

The last boss of Nine Sols is like a standalone game in which I'm going to die nearly as many times as in the previous 40 hours it took me to reach it.

Releasing some stress with Talos Principle 2 and Infinity Nikki.

Playing some Fatal Frame 3: The Tormented.

This game seems to get severely underlooked after FF2 but I really like it. Fun-fact, this came out within a year of Silent Hill 4 and both these games do the concept of a player "hub" apartment that starts to get progressively more haunted as the game goes on, and I'm gonna say Fatal Frame 3 does it more effectively than SH4.

Below pics are on PCSX2 with 5x res and some texture cleaning mods applied.

You could bundle these games up and sell them today with some improved textures and they won't look all that bad in the current era either.

Recently finished stellar blade, took me longer than expected because of the photo mode (3000+ screenshot), then I switch to shorter game and completed crash bandicoot 1, tonight I'll finally start playing Chrono Trigger which has been in my backlog since forever and hearing a lot of people say its one of the greats
completed Chrono Trigger, it really is a masterpiece through and through, amazing story, character, music, gameplay, holds up pretty damn well for today and for a game this old there's a clear indication on where to go, didn't need to use a guide at all for the main story. For the side quest you might need a guide one or two times about where to go, mainly the sun stone sidequest.

now I'm moving on to metal gear msx, I've played every single mainline mgs game except the OG msx games. Using a guide of course, I'm not gonna raw dogged an 80s video game

Like A Dragon Ishin
almost 50h for 46% of the game. urgh... At 10h I already stopped properly following the story and skipped parts of the dialog, which saved me possibly a few hours alone. Just tiresome the never ending drivel.
I am increasingly uncertain if those games are supposed to be involuntarily Tropic Thunder like comedies. The number of times some dude dies in the arms of the main hero in the same way is just ridiculous, I actually laughed at the last ones. The dramatic music, the camera pan, the slow soap opera dialog with the somewhat coarse japanese voices talking some trash about brothers, plans, goals, revenge, feelings... something something. Does not really. The only character that makes sense is the one eyed Joker like dude who loves violance just for fun and has only a few serious moments. Same as in Yakuza 0. All others are stupid, clueless, cold, fired up, depending on the hamfisted plot twist of the writer and make hardly sense on their own. Since they use the same models with different names the whole thing is low quality fan fiction level of writing each time.
The games are kinda interesting because of the "exotic" content, but always hard to get through them with that draining writing and grindheavy ultrarepetitive content.

I'm probably near the halfway point with Yotei, and it's been great, but I've been really itching for Outer Worlds 2. Flaws an all, I'm a sucker for those types of games.

Multiplayer: ARC Raiders is like a drug. Will be playing this for a long time.
Single player: A bit of Monster Hunter Rise still and I've gotten back into Minecraft while I listen to audiobooks.

Outer Worlds 2 - Still in the prologue. Good stuff so far though.

Cronos - NG+ run on the road to platinum.

Gears Reloaded PS5 - Goddamn does it feel good to play a simple third person cover shooter. Headshots still so satisfying.

and here's the shocker....

Bionic Commando (2009) - I was actually thinking about making a thread on this to see if anyone else here enjoyed it. I dunno what spurred my mind to grab this off Amazon, but I've always seen it as some weird, cult hidden gem. The reviews weren't stellar, but before there was Insomniac's Spider-Man, you had this game with the most satisfying swing mechanics (to me) since Spider-Man 2 PS2. The dialogue and story is terrible, but hey, Mike Patton plays Rad Spencer so who cares. It still looks pretty nice at 1080p too and the challenge system they incorporated that unlocked skills and upgrades was a really, really cool idea and it worked. It's a fun one to return to all these years later. I love that 7th gen man.
