MAGES. has delayed STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT from its previously planned 2025 release window to 2026 in Japan, as well as released the first look at the game's upgraded graphics, which are still in development. Release platforms remain unannounced.

Character Design

The characters of STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT have been renewed by character designer huke. Their outfits and accessories have also been redesigned, with detailed depictions that make their presence feel even more lively.

Backgrounds

The background graphics, using reference materials from the time, depict Akihabara circa 2010 in such detail that they can even be mistaken for actual photographs. Additionally, locations that did not appear in the original STEINS;GATE have been newly added to further enrich the story.

—The laboratory featuring the various gadgets Okabe and company are researching.

—Manseibashi Bridge overlooking Electric Town in the background. Some of the buildings here no longer exist.

—The coin laundromat located next to the lab.

—Comparisons with the original STEINS;GATE.

Event Stills

Event stills, all of which have been newly recreated from storyboards, depict the story more closely and more dramatically. Scenes not depicted in the original STEINS;GATE have been added, further enhancing the sense of immersion.

IIRC, it's only been announced for a Japan release. I'm guessing we'll get the western release date before it actually launches in Japan though. We'll have to wait and see.

Edit: From what I understand, Mages aren't in a particularly great financial situation right now, so there's no way this remake doesn't get a global release.

I think the character art looks better, but the environments have chroma shifted lineart, which I am not a fan of.

no, not really...it has waifus in it, but the game is actually a really cool and sometimes funny time travel sci fi story. it gets dark at times, but i really loved it.

Not really. It is an excellent time travel science fiction drama.

If you are willing, I'd recommend watching the anime to see if it's to your liking. If you like the anime, the vn is more or less the same but with... More. Iirc the vns word count is like 2/3 of the whole lotr trilogy.

I loved Steins;Gate and even Elite, despite that version having its fair share of detractors. I'm not sure how I feel about the updated art style... it just feels kind of unnecessary and it's similar enough to the original that it comes across as something of a cheap copy. I'll keep an eye on it, but it's feeling like this'll be a pass for me.

The original game is absolutely excellent, for anyone unfamiliar with it.

Eh, I disagree. It's cleaner sure, owing to the higher resolution. But I don't really think it looks "better". There was an HD version of the original though, but I'm not sure how it compares.

I am fine with these new visuals. They match pretty well what they did with 0.

Sure the original had some kind of alien look to it, especially the eyes, and it had a lot of charm. But this is fine by my standards.

Gotta get some support for Nintendo. They had MAGES work on Emio: The Smiling Man, and it was surprisingly good. A little stiff in the gameplay department, but excellent story and atmosphere. If you haven't played it, I recommend.

Because the huge difference of art style between OG and 0 was really confusing in 0 when they made flashbacks etc...

It's a collection of the four titles. Steins;gate, Steins;gate 0, the dating sim/romantic comedy (something something Darling I can't remember the title and too lazy to google), and Steins;gate Linear Bounded Phenogram which is a collection of like side stories.

Steins;gate is the GOAT IMO of VNs alongside House in Fata Morgana (Steins;gate is much more accessible then Morgana IMO) and while 0 is not nearly as good as the original I still think it's great. The dating game can be skipped but if you are a fan it's fun to "play" through. I thought Phenogram was fun.

Ok, so I wasn't too hot about their trailer and compared with the original, and right now my thought is "WTF is this shit ?".

Absolutely destroyed the backgrounds and character. Yeah, that art style is not good enough. Background is too realistic, the character feels totally off and unrelated, like it doesn't belong here. Where are the people ? The area is supposed to be crowded. Makes no fucking sense.

Replaced a sentence that makes sense and gives some context by "Everyone is going."
Ok great genius, Everyone is going but where ? What are they doing ? Garbage.
