Favorite Holiday/Christmas films?

Alright Gaffers lets talk about our favorite Christmas movies and why we like them. You can even say Die Hard, which is a great film. I wanted to talk about some of my favorite movies to watch around Christmas and how I hope you introduce them to my children.

It's a Wonderful Life - A classic, but really a move about redemption, friends and how valuable even what seems like a simple life is to the people that love them. I cannot watch the end of this movie without feeling something. "no man is a failure who has friends". Jimmy Stewart is just amazing in the film and every character feels like a real person, even the over the top town villain Mr Potter.

A Christmas Carol - With Patrick Stewart. I don't think people really love this movie and I feel like it rushes the ending a bit, but Steward is a great scrooge and he makes you believe the change happens when he wakes. His transformation from grouch to joy is excellent. And there are overall better version, like the Muppet one, but this version I just enjoy the most.

Rankin and Bass stop motion - Everything from Santa clause is coming to town, to the burgermiester and these characters that come to life. Bing Crosby's narration is excellent and Hermy wanting to be a dentist are all classics to enjoy.

Gaf what classics or modern films do you look to in this amazing season.

I am going to say Die Hard. The best Christmas movie.

Santa Claus is Coming to Town. Heat Miser and Snow Miser always make me chuckle.

I also enjoy the Peanuts classic, A Charlie Brown Christmas. I no longer believe in the theology, but the cartoon brings back sweet memories from childhood.

Christmas Vacation will always reign supreme for me, but I've also been gravitating toward some of the classics over the last few years. White Christmas and Holiday Inn are both worth a watch.

If anyone's looking for something a little different try Tokyo Godfathers.

As mentioned here, Die Hard and Christmas Vacation are our go-to movies.

However, and please don't laugh, I also have a soft spot for "Love Actually". I know, soppy nonsense but I like it :)

Die Hard 1 & 2, jolly good movies.

Even if they're not movies, seeing some classic Donald Duck shorts is pivotal to getting me in the holiday mood. 🎄🎅

Anyone ever seen Bernard and the Genie? I stumbled across this one morning in High School and thought it was brilliant. Been a while since I have seen it, but I enjoyed it 30 years ago.

Ok, so Christmas time movies are a good excuse to watch some shit but kinda still enjoy it. Embrace the cheese.

There's one I discovered on Netflix years ago and it's so fucking stupid I found it enjoyable.

Clarissa and Slater from Saved by the Bell

Plot is Clarissa has no boyfriend to take to her parents Christmas cabin so she kidnaps Slater and comedy ensues. The audacity of making a rom com about of abduction is just up there with the most fucked up shit you can do if you put tinsel and festivities on it.

A Christmas Story, easy. Fun for the whole family. Every scene is a classic, with so many quotable lines.

"I triple dog dare you!"
"You'll shoot your eye out!"
"Drink...your...Ovaltine?"

Die Hard on repeat.

With occasional breaks for Christmas Vacation, Bad Santa, and Christmas Story.

Plus Love Actually and The Holiday when my wife vetos me.

Halloween - Halloween 4, Sleepy Hollow
Thanksgiving - Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
Christmas - Home alone, it's a wonderful life, Batman Returns, Rudolph the red nosed reindeer

And of course the old peanuts specials

I was the Patric Steward movie every year at the holidays. Comfort movie. Not a lot of people mention it though it's true.

Heh, I love this thread. So cool seeing everyone's favorite Christmas movies. I always get like a kid this time of year. Always loved Christmas, always will, even though I'm not religious at all :)

As a kid it was always Home Alone 1+2, Santa Claus (the one with Tim Allen) and Jingle all the Way and no movie since has managed to beat those.

Muppet Christmas Carol
I watch this every Christmas Eve. Me and my dad used to watch it together when I was a kid. Something amazing about Michael Caine's really straight performance. Love the musical numbers, too.

Every year, I also try to watch the following: Polar Express, Bad Santa, Elf, and the first two Home Alone movies. I also like to dig out some old tv boxsets and watch the Christmas specials. Mr Bean, Only Fools, Gavin and Stacy, and the Blackadder special.
