Why do you keep saying this? lol
It's because the console is all but dead so if your library is dead you can move to windows store with a limited number of games. It's pro-consumer if you had an xbox before but there is nothing to hype up here if you were primarily an xbox user seeing your console die, especially as it still tries to vendor-lock you into their ecosystem (even if you make the move to PC) and is very limited in the games that support it. Like Crossbuy for vita, cool to have for those limited games but for a platform that was struggling what good was it having that crossbuy when the platform went kaput? Even less altruistic now because it's only there to boost windows store sales over others on the platform that has an install base. They're transitioning to PC obviously. So every game they make PA you get a PC copy as well. It's similar to the effort they put into the BC program, but in reverse. It's a great pro consumer move.
16 announcements? Nice.
We should be able to guess a game starting with Z lol.
Checkmate, Valve.Zelda: ToTK !!
Some are known like 007. Reanimal, etc.Oh damn. Those are all brand new reveals? Because say for example FF7R wouldn't be an announcement because we know about that already.
I bet SH2R is definitely one of them, but what else?

You mean the console running the PC SKU of the play anywhere version? Will become even more valuable for existing/older games that do Play Anywhere by say .. 2027 when there's an Xbox that lets you side-load the PC version and crank it up to the max.![]()
Probably neither. Smart Delivery will handle the Xbox side of things. Containers will handle the games from other PC stores.Just using in passing semantics until officially announced/confirmed how the dual environment situation will be handled. Side-loading or a dual-boot type scenario.
So expecting an Xbox Console to play Xbox ecosystem games is now vendor lock in? Sure, Steam/Epic games will be technically play anywhere on the device, but that's irrelevant to an Xbox userbase. Take a guess why they stuck around with Xbox. It's because the console is all but dead so if your library is dead you can move to windows store with a limited number of games. Don't get me wrong it's nice to have if you were stuck in the xbox ecosystem but it being very limited trying to transition people away is not something to be hyped about. You could just get a small form factor PC for your TV and have "Play anywhere" now on all titles. Trying to force the existence of xbox stores past this transition becomes "anti-consumer" because it's simply trying to keep you in that walled garden by vendor-lockin. It's only a pro for them trying to keep the customer locked in with breadcrumbs of limited games. Me personally I would just rip off the xbox bandaid and go fully open with a "console like" PC if "multiple devices" was what I was after. Then I wouldn't be limited to their store just because I owned an xbox before.
I think I made myself pretty clear. They are trying to keep those customers vendor locked in a transition because quite a lot of xbox folk are ditching it and moving to other platforms. They are trying to maintain them on their store and devices and at the same time push PC users towards a declining xbox purchase which they now don't subsidise and cranked prices up on.So expecting an Xbox Console to play Xbox ecosystem games is now vendor lock in? Xbox Console games are optimized to the hardware. That's not going away.
Zoo Tycoon 3!We should be able to guess a game starting with Z lol.
Then every single ecosystem is a vendor lock in, that's how licensing works right? Xbox isn't going to give Steam licenses for Play Anywhere.I think I made myself pretty clear. This "your games on multiple devices" initiative was actually kind of why I bought a Vita. I had bought many crossbuy ("Play anywhere") games for PS3/PS4 and was getting "free" games on PS+ for Vita too so I said why not get a Vita to play my library. The bad part is that there was nothing "hype" about crossbuy if you were solely a vita owner.
Same applies to xbox. Nothing hype about it if you're solely an xbox owner. It might convince some to buy on windows store or even some others to buy an overpriced xbox but they will still be vendor locked on their other devices if they happen to. it might push them to that vendor to play those small handfull of games. Yes that's motivated by vendor lockin, it's not an altruistic move really. The customer is better off just getting a small form factor truly open platform for the livingroom to have all games "play anywhere". Then you are free of it.
Yes they are but we were discussing the motivation for doing crossbuy on a dying platform. They could very easily give xbox licences for steam purchases too but guess why that doesn't happen? Then every single ecosystem is a vendor lock in, that's how licensing works right? Xbox isn't going to give Steam licenses for Play Anywhere.
people moving away from xbox to other platforms, and MS trying to maintain support and customers with a new gen. So both. I'm not sure what wasn't clear about me describing their motives. What transition are you referring to? From one console to the next gen consoles?
I personally couldn't care less what they do so nothing. The PR blurb has nothing to do with the self serving motives I described for doing what they do though.Windows is an open platform, MS is trying to make Xbox an open platform too, but with games optimized for the hardware. They are expected to take care of their Xbox userbase just like any other platform holder.
What exactly do you want them to do?

Yes "ripping off the bandaid" is slightly painful but you've healed."The Xbox customer is better off getting a much more expensive small form factor PC that won't play their existing library, just to play the same games you'd be able to play on the next gen Xbox"
Lmao
I would just rip off the xbox bandaid and go fully open with a "console like" PC if "multiple devices" was what I was after. Then I wouldn't be limited to their store (and games) just because I owned an xbox before.

Laugh all you want being a MS/xbox diehard but deep down you know it's true. At least then you can play a full library everywhere instead of a small handful of games.
Plus is it really that painful hitting "unsubscribe" with how people have built their "library" on xbox?
Are you having a brain aneurysm? It's the "small handful of games" that are confirmed "play anywhere" right now. Not buying games from a specific vendor based on what might happen. How would it be a 'small handful of games' when the combined library is the biggest in the living room space?
Steam + GOG + EGS + Xbox BC is 'small handful'?
I suppose you have to defend MS come hell or high water with a tag like that. A lot of people confess to not buying many games and just relying on a sub in this very forum but don't let reality get in the way, it's the Xbox fans MO.I suppose you might as well try the 'Xbox users don't buy games' rhetoric if everything else doesn't stick![]()

It's pretty much all they have. That or dive into the exciting Ghost of Yotei new game+ mode I guess, or keep refreshing the Game Awards page until December. Can we keep this dumb console war rhetoric out of this topic about a Direct, at least?
The person lecturing you on reality is the one who sees people post things like "I got a series s as a gamepass machine"The person who is arguing that existing Xbox owners have no game library (because apparently everyone is on GP and all games released on Xbox are on GP) and that gamers on a quasi-open console with access to all prominent PC marketplaces will have a small handful of games and might be better off getting a PC to play a subset of those games…that's the person lecturing me on 'reality'?
![]()
Sales are still building a library but there are those who buy very few games on xbox and just keep "engaged" with gamepass. Just an example from this week of somebody confessing to doing that right here:![]()
A lot of people on this forum confess to waiting for deep sales before buying games regardless of platform, it's everyone's MO.
Can we keep this dumb console war rhetoric out of this topic about a Direct, at least?
Xbox's biggest mistake was making GamePass so cheap in the beginning no one needed to buy anything, I primerly play on my Series X and I have bought 3 games this generation (Tales of Arise, Cyberpunk, Elden Ring), and I have no reason to buy anything on that is why they lost third party support
What exactly are you playing to be claiming that's all "they" have? It's pretty much all they have. That or dive into the exciting Ghost of Yotei new game+ mode I guess, or keep refreshing the Game Awards page until December.
Would bethesda and ES6 count as partner, if MS owns it? Coz im hyped for that big time hereAnyway, last minute predictions / expectations?
Let's see if they have something that might be 'the next Clair Obscure'.

Steam? That's a completely different ecosystem and it's not fixing anything for anyone within the Xbox ecosystem. And people still wont care when steam exists
How exactly would you do that "console like fully open device"?Me personally I would just rip off the xbox bandaid and go fully open with a "console like" PC if "multiple devices" was what I was after. Then I wouldn't be limited to their store just because I owned an xbox before.
There was yesterday.Surprised there's no tile for this on the Xbox dashboard.
