Anyone Get VR for Black Friday 2025?

The meta quest 3s was a smoking good deal and so was PSVR2 but I opted for meta for the Batman games and half life alyx.

I ended up downloading and getting OG RE4 VR. What a fucking trip! So damn cool to play.

I had VR many years ago when Alyx had come out and I think I had an oculus then? I sold it pretty shortly after since motion sickness is rough, and being wired in was a pain.

This new headset is very comfortable, being able to see through the headset your environment , and wireless? So sick!

Then RE4 I was doing amazing. No motion sickness in full immersive mode… then I got to the village and the chainsaw guy was chasing me. FML!!! I was moving too fast to get away from this cunt and got real sick real fast. Damn. Guess I'll try sit down mode or not full immersive next go around.

But man alive was it cool to be able to shoot through window cracks in OG RE4 where you can't do that in the base game. And the use of out of character 3D Leon kicking is a smart idea as I was worried I'd have to do it myself lol.

Next up is Batman…

Anyone else diving in?

I'm waiting on the Steam Frame. I've got a Quest 2, but I hate using it because of discomfort and the nonsense/confusion of running meta and steam vr apps at the same time. Its a real hassle to set up and play most games. Like, 10 minutes before I can get an app running and become semi-comfortable.

How is the image quality and sharpness on the 3S?
I always get tempted to get one when I see it on sale, but I've read the regular 3 is a big step up (due to higher resolution and different type of lenses) so I always end up deciding to wait a couple of year until there is a decent sale on the 3 instead of the 3S.

There is no Alyx on meta ;d Its is on steam but psvr2 can be also used with pc.
I played Alyx on oculus. For meta you just set up the app on your pc and it plays no issues. Now you can do it wireless too. Can't wait to try of witless later today.

Honestly great. My only issue is I'm a glasses user so I'm more prone to blurry areas in the peripherals but when in game you're focused on where you're looking so I don't notice it. Very sharp for RE4 when I played.

I'll compare Alyx to see from when I did it years ago.

The 3S uses the same lenses, and I think even the same screen as the 2. Things are a little sharper than a 2 as it's a more powerful SOC. But the regular 3 has much better lenses. I even vastly prefer the 3 to the PSVR2.

That said, wait to see how the Steam Frame turns out. The 3 just isn't going to get any major discounts, I believe the best deal has been $425. I snagged a Meta refurbished one for $360. But at the retail price it's very close to the cost of parts and Meta doesn't want to lose money on them.

Do you have prescription lenses? If not they are $50 and a big jump over wearing glasses and the headset.

I got a psvr2 for £299 for use on pc. Coming from a quest 1 I am a little disappointed. its slightly sharper and slightly brighter but it doesn't seem vastly different. And Alyx keeps crashing. Kinda wish I'd got a quest 3 but I bought a rift s and returned it because the lcd black levels really put me off.

I'm tempted to get a PSVR2 just to play the RE games and GT. I can't really justify it, I already play Quest 2 and 3 quite a bit, and making time for more VR play would be hard.

I feel that PSVR2 is a minor step up from the Quest 2/3s, but no where near what the Quest 3 is.

There's a VR mod for REFramework if you want to try playing in VR. https://github.com/praydog/REFramework

GT7 in VR is fun, but not to the level of PC racers if you fall on the realism side of things versus GT which leans arcadey.

I mean it steam only game, you can play it on pc using quest3, psvr2 or any other pc compatible googles.

I would have gotten a PS5 Pro and PSVR2 if I wasn't poor, but I just got Stellar Blade on Steam and running it through UEVR on my trusty Quest 2.

Ever since I played RE4 on the Quest 2 I maintain it is the definitive way to play. It's why I'm holding out on playing both RE4 Remake and Village: It's VR or nothing.

The great thing about playing wirelessly is that there is no motion sickness because you can turn with your body instead of a stick.

Unfortunately, the weight needs to get down to 250 grams or less. The Quest 3 is 515 grams, which is a torture device after 20 minutes of use.

I had no issues for the weight.

I just tried Batman VR in immersive mode as well as the two snap to turn options. Tried both standing up and moving my head as usual and I also tried sitting down.

I prefer sitting down for comfort, seems the second snap turn option is for me. I prefer the fully turn your head and body options but I get motion sickness way easier that way. Just the start where you drop down or climb ladders when I was standing in immersive mode made me want to blow chunks. I still had a little of that when sitting down but far less.

The device only has a 2 hour battery when wireless which I think for me is plenty.

Currently tapping out at about 30 minutes before wanting to blow chunks.

I managed to snag a PSVR2 bundle last weekend as an excellent/new condition open box for $199, so far it seems worth it to me. First ever VR experience, and it was nice to already have a few games that I owned with VR support. My prescription lenses also shipped so I imagine things will be much better once I don't have to wear glasses as well.

Guna wait on Steam Frame if I decide to jump back into VR also need a new pc (1080ti currently) so depending on price and if some games I really want to play get announced at game awards (VR and 2D)

I expect frame to cost way too damn much so it's out of my price range.

Fetch Mean Girls GIF

Lumines and GT7 are excellent on PSVR2. PSVR2 espeially with it's cheaper price right now is a excellent purchase and Christmas gift.

And Aces of Thunder and MSFS 2024 is coming soon. This two will be big on VR. Cant wait.

Already have an Index, and I'm considering getting the Steam Frame when it comes out.

I just wish there were more games for it. Maybe in the future, if it becomes cheaper and more mainstream.

Psvr2 is really awsome ... unfortunately i cant stand to play more than 20 min before having to shut down ..
That was me when I got my first VR set but believe me, keep using it and the sickness will go away.

Avoid lack of sleep and over eating before using a VR especially for newbies on VR. Drinking green tea with honey while using VR helps for me.

I am waiting for the Steam Frame. Really don't want to give Meta my $$$ and Pimax seems like it's too much tinkering and/or bad support.

There are really no other viable options in PC space.

I finally bit the bullet and got a quest3s for €269. It's seems will not go down any lower than that.

Setting up a meta account was way more painful Than I expected, and I was really disappointed to notice my usb-c 5 meter cable was not detected. But man, the image is so good, the motion detection is way more precise than I thought it was possible. I was also happy to realize a lot of my steam library could work in VR already and air link works just fine. The setup is still cumbersome, but when it worked, it was how I imagined, headaches and all.

I also had some fun with the virtual spaces. I even tried to razor my beard while watching a YouTube video on the side, lol. My last disappointment it's that the system don't work while laying in bed or even a chair. It's such a shame for... Reasons!

You get used to it. Try to play in as cold an environment as possible and limit your movements inside the game.

Hopefully within the next 5 years we'll have 240hz in VR so motion sickness will not be an issue. For reference, to be nearly perfect to the human brain, 360hz is required. What we can hope for in a Quest 4 is 144hz, which would be much more comfortable, but a lot more demanding.

Steam frame being 2160x2160 finally got me to bite the bullet and get pimax crastal light as Iam done with these low res headsets.
So far so good. Aspheric lenses and 2880x2880 looks great. There is a bit of tinkering with software, but I dont mind that.

It's been about 4 months since I touched my PSVR2.
Because I'm a lazy bastard who can't be bothered pushing back my sofa and tossing my coffee table to the side 😄

But I played a ton of GT7 and RE Village.
After GT7 I'm never going back to flat screen racers ever again.

What did you have to do tinkering wise? I have been looking at Pimax for ages but bugs and question around support kept me away.

This.

It's just collecting dust now.

Technology is cool, it's just not yet convenient.

Huh ? AFAIK every game released both on PSVR2 and Quest 3 ALWAYS looked and performed better on PSVR2 ㄟ( ▔, ▔ )ㄏ
If you're just looking at Quest 3 native with it's onboard ARM SOC versus a PS5? Then yes. Throw a PC into the mix and it's a completely different story.

The OLED panels in the PSVR2 gets you perfect black levels. But it has rainbowing. Take a perfectly black screen and have a bright white area. The edges will have a rainbow rather than being sharp white. The image clarity also just doesn't hold a candle to the Quest 3's pancake lenses.

The PSVR2 was a huge leap over the first, just like the Quest 2 was a big jump over the first Quest. But the old optics still in the PSVR2 doesn't make it feel next gen to me. It's why I recommend the Quest 3 over the 3S which has the same optics as the Quest 2. I feel it's a generations increase even though the 3 and 3S have the exact same compute power. All that said the 3 isn't perfect, the color video pass through you can use with AR still has some pixelation so it doesn't look like real life. We'll need at least 1-2 doubling of screen resolution to get there where the human eye can't see the pixels. But it's so much better than the early headset where it looked like you were looking through a mesh screen.

Picked up a PSVR2 on BF sale and I'm loving it, the tech is fantastic but it's such a shame that Sony never released a huge single player RPG for it.
There's just so much potential but you need to give the creative minds the time and money to make such games for it and something is amiss.

Bought VRacer Hoverbike on sale, hopefully it will not be as vomit-inducing to me as Wipeout on PSVR1.
Also, Scared by Squares - an abstract horror game where the whole world is only made of cubes (but the atmosphere is really dark).
Currently playing Crashland, it's a great wave shooter, but it is difficult as hell (I'm on the easiest difficulty and barely making it to next levels)

I was also holding on them because of the widespread problems with software and quality control.
Nothing major tinkering wise, it was actually pretty good experience out of the box. Their software has come a long way. Just set the ipd, emulate valve knuckles and thats about it. More per game settings so they will run well at these resolutions. Steam VR renders something like 5000x4000 at 100% per eye at 90Hz, so it is very demanding, but 5090 can handle that well.

You should try Legendary Tales

Got a PSVR2 when it was discounted last year, to play GT7 its fun! Even bought a second hand quest 2. Wish i would use it more, just to lazy to find it and set everything up. Especially the "scanning" part of PSVR2 drives me nuts, just let me play instead of room scanning all the time.

Good news: There is a laying down mode! it's hidden under the experimental features tab in settings. I even played PCVR games using motion controls and everything while I was bedridden with the flu earlier in the year.

I didn't saw such experimental options when I tried to access settings...
