Apple posts a very cringe ad for new iPhone - A ferret gets triggered

I find that company extremely unpleasant...

I detest it. What's more, this commercial isn't just selfish...

it's incredibly inhumane.

One of the commercials I hate the most.

I hate these 'shot on iPhone' things, when you know they were using something like this:

I feel like their modern ads, including the one I posted, will age very, very quickly. And really badly. Much like those weird ads from the 70s and 80s.

Especially compared to the nice ones from the 2000s, which had banger music.

It makes me wonder if Steve Jobs had to give his stamp of approval before allowing an ad to air. I know he was obsessed with music and controlling details. Apple's media today feels like it comes from a corporation that is losing its sense of taste.

If I remember correctly from Walter Isaacson's biography of Steve Jobs, he was pretty hands-on when it came to the whole marketing aspect of each product, including the ads.

I truly miss the Steve Jobs era after suffering through this ad. So I thought I'd share it.

They legit said "Triggering"

What a fucking anemic ad.

There's just no spine to this shit. Compare it to a scene from Labyrinth, something with edge and energy and pizazz.

This felt like a soft dribble that had to go three rounds to pass HR.

Dude created a mock Apple store and spent hours and hours in it to make sure it worked from every angle to elevate the brand and vibe he was going for. He saw the importance in detail.

He also obsessed over the packaging and how you first see the product when you open the box, etc.

Gonna have to resist now, but I do enjoy diving down some of the Jobs' rabbit holes of inspiration.
His obsession of things made such a difference.

Very deep in the Apple ecosystem and you're right, I can't comprehend tech especially something like Android

I switch back and forth a lot. I will stick with iOS for my phone because of facetime, messages and security but I still have an android device I use for emulators and stuff. Android isn't really any harder to use, it is just a matter of what people are used to. You can hand an iOS device to an android user and they struggle for a few days in the same way that iOS users struggle with android. Sure, people can dig deeper by sideloading apps, etc. but I no longer do those things on my main or work phones.

I had a Samsung Note Ultra 20 when they came out like 5 years ago so its been awhile since I personally owned one but I disliked Android

My wife currently owns the latest folding phone from Samsung and I admit that screen space is nice but I still hate Android :)

Guess I am just not smart enough for Android

Post Steve Jobs apple has been so poor, lacking any ambition and just really weak.

The cringe ass keynotes are unbearable. The ads are shit.

He was a visionary, now they have a bean counter.

iPhones aside, no offense to anyone... But they're rubbish.

The best are Huawei, Xiaomi, Samsung, or OnePlus.
Software is user preference, but in all the hardware categories that actually matter iPhone clearly hangs with the best. Performance, battery life, screen, cameras, build quality, etc…

As for the software, as somebody that uses both, they are similar for 99% of use cases. Preference is mostly down to UI choices these days.

Battery and cameras are trash

Literally every review and benchmark disagrees with you. Battery life is great and so is camera quality.
I was talking about battery size. Camera quality isn't as good as any of the Chinese flagships especially at night watch any YouTube comparison video from any tech reviewer notice I said reviewer not tech influencer (they can't be honest Apple will blacklist them).

We've had this discussion before, but I absolutely do not get your extreme hatred of being able to remove people from pictures.

You've been able to do it for decades in Photoshop. Do you have a similar reaction to that software?

You come off as more than a bit unhinged.

yeah but the mind of the iPhone user can not comprehend technology, so even a simplified OS like Android is too much for them
Dang man, I never knew you were poor. Sorry dude. :(

Who all ape Apple and/or iOS to varying degrees…

Miss the days where Android manufacturers used to at least try out new things or try to stand out. Least Nothing tries to look visually distinct.

This is laughable the camera island on the iPhone 17 pro is literally a copy of Xiaomi's 2021 mi 11 ultra camera island and Xiaomi's latest flagship reintroduced a screen on the rear of the phone which they had originally introduced on their 2021 flagship.

Too bad no one is trying to stand out like Apple maybe Android OEM's will upgrade their screens from 60hz and let you change the color of your icons like Apple that's innovation

I wish Windows Phone would have been more successful, it would have brought more variety. But what I really would have loved seeing take off was Symbian OS. It gave the user a lot of access and you could easily download software like games from your the web to your computer to the phone. Heck, I used to do that with my Nokia 7650 back in early 2000s. It even had a proper file system if I remember correctly. It would basically have provided a Linux-esque open environment for tinkerers and could have driven innovation and freedom in a much better way than Android(not to mention the closed fortress of iOS).

I can't compreehend how can people drop 1000 bucks on a phone. I've always owned cheap 150 bucks samsung phones and they are more then enough.
Same. The most expensive phone I've gotten was Pixel 6a for about $300. I have no need for top of the line cameras or powerful apps on a phone.

yeah because the hundreds of millions of android phones sold under 150 are gonna be used for ssh sessions and server administration sure

you still regurgitating circa 2009 memes =/

Agree and I'm not leaving Apple out of this. iOS Vista Edition is a travesty in terms of UI and functionality for me personally. Companies should copy the best bits and leave out the fluff.

BTW Xiaomi started off as a custom ROM that basically aped iOS, so it's funny to see things come full circle with Apple ripping them off.

Completely agree with WP OS, Symbian and PalmOS dying off too soon. More choice is always a good thing.

I bought a Palm Pre the day it launched. I am a huge phone nerd. I wish Palm and WebOS would have survived

their cards multitasking design was so ahead of its time it's become the de facto standard
Exactly neither Android nor IOS would be where they are without WebOS. I think the Pre and it's software was designed by ex Apple employees. Multitasking cards and wireless charging back in 2009 it really did feel like the future! Now all we have is better and better camera hardware (not complaining) and the ability to change the color of our icons. Foldables are the only real innovation in the last decade.

This reeks of a C-Suite's niece just finished University with an arts degree in marketing, so she gets the job automatically, and this is her first project.

There isn't much to say about the ad, it's just a bit odd. I don't mean that it's good but odd, I mean its only attribute is being odd.

I suppose that's why it's devolved into a childish 2010-esque platform war: there's nothing else to say.
