Nintendo locks background music for empty open world in Metroid Prime 4 behind amiibo paywall

This is dumb, but I'm just gonna download the NFC and use my Flipper Zero to emulate it. This is the type of piracy I think is okay.

So stupid, Nintendo.

You have to buy an overpriced shitty plastic happy meal toy to get background music in a $70 game?

Even for Nintendo, that's low. Bout as anti consumer as you can be.

The brilliant part is that they know they can do this and Nintendo fans won't care.
We won't care that we can't change tracks in the desert? Music that is already playing in the background but now we can change it is a special feature we should be ultra shitty about and cry over it? Fuck me drunk what the hell is going on here?!? Is this a game changing thing? Does it ruin the game for anyone NOT BEING ABLE TO CHANGE MUSIC ON THE BIKE SECTIONS?

I guess if you find it offensive then cool for you. I personally couldn't give a flying fuck to be honest. I don't need it. Doesn't change anything. If they decided to use Amiibo's for things in game that actually hinders progress, then I will be the 1st on here to ream the fuck out of Nintendo. Locking changing music on the bike sections though? I'll be fine thanks.

I think you are a bit confused.
There is -no- music in the hub world, otherwise. Where you'll spend HOURS throughout the entire course of the game. Nintendo purposefully made their game worse to accommodate this.

It's like Nintendo is just begging for people to pirate their stuff out of spite when they're the most greedy game company on the planet. They do lame stuff like this and also target the most content creators by far and threaten them with lawsuits and shit. One of the many reasons I jailbroke my Switch.

That's been the point of amiibos since 2014, to unlock extra/late content via NFC, otherwise they'd just be figurines (which is still the main point I guess). The specifics for these were also announced months ago, and they're also already released before the game, where have you all been?

It's also a reward for 100%ing the desert (cue complains about that I guess, because you want it earlier, not later, even though without the amiibo they'd likely never make it available early to begin with but nah, we'll twist this into the amiibo unlocks being the intended vanilla experience).

Hey guyz, I got a secret cheat for you to actually enjoy better features than the amiibos give, shhhh, don't tell Nintendo or they will send their ninjas to come for me too. Put some music on your phone or whatever folks, you can even put music that's not available even with the unlocks 🤫

I've only really wanted the woolly amiibo(s) without even having any compatible Nintendo things.
I couldn't find any of them here though, sucks. They made a big one too but I don't find it as cute.
Don't be jelly nkafaro, you're cute too, probably, to someone.

No- there IS music in the hub world, just not music from the levels in the game. Ambient music plays in that section. Again, who gives a FUCK either way? Are you going to be toe tapping to some music from this game when riding the bike if you have the desired amiibo?

The designers made the game with music in the desert area. This was how the people who made the game wanted the game to be.

Then someone thought "hey, wouldn't it be awesome if we could REMOVE something from the game you just made and sell it for additional money?"

And so they did.

Fuck them, honestly.

It looks like you can unlock the music through playing the game and you don't need the amiibo

Right... After completing the area 100%, meaning you have nothing left to do and no reason to be there... you can now ride your bike aimlessly to enjoy the music.

Really? All I've heard is the bike so far. If that's true, then I don't care.

Who gives a fuck about locking game options behind Amiibo? Now, that's a dumb question.

The desert is the central hub? You'll definitely be going through the desert constantly despite clearing the desert because it links you to all the other areas unless I'm missing something.

Yes. Because by the time i have 100% the hub world i wouldn't also have nearly 100% the rest of the game.

And remind me again, why would the music need to be accessible only for those who want to 100% it? Why wouldn't, you know, just have the music that was intended to be there like any other normal game? It almost looks like a poor justification to buy the amiibo but still be able to say "but you can get it for free as well" Ubisoft style.

Are you falling for it? Are you actually defending this? I thought you were just reporting it.

It's amazing to me there are people defending this.

I need to know if the game has music or ambience of some sort in that area by default, or if the Amiibo track is the originallly intended track, before I start foaming at the mouth.

I already defended it because I appreciate Nintendo is keeping poor people away from me

This is just another reason for me to defend it you peasant

But you would absolutely 100% the hub long before you complete the other areas

Seems like there are conflicting reports about what this actually entails. If there is NO music in these sections without amiibo, then yes, that's pretty awful. If there is a music track that already plays, and amiibo just unlocks the ability to play tracks from other areas, then that is far less egregious.

Whats the issue? I thought Metroid fans cared about "muh isolation and atmosphere"?

Whether this is bait or not, I'm answering. Music lends to an atmosphere, which in Metroid can be claustrophobic or isolating, full of wonder, or just lending to the power fantasy of being Samus fucking Aran. The same area can even have different music tracks that create two appropriate atmospheres for the same location.

A great example is in AM2R, because I love sucking that game's dick so much (and I just replayed it last night). The Distribution Center location is this flooded, non-functional power center that crosses and weaves across itself and even connects directly to the rest of the game world. The first track, Flooded Complex, is slow-paced with lots of ambient and reverberating and repetitive sound, reflecting the slow and deliberate pace you're probing around the new environment. As you restore power and gain more abilities easing faster-paced exploration of the facility, it is eventually replaced with Ancient Power, a track which strikes off with sharper percussion, ups the tempo, inserts new verses to the melody (making it less repetitive), and adds that Gregorian choir we fans have come to expect and love from some Metroid tracks.

People still remember Nintendo as the "fun" company from their childhood, instead of seeing them as the pieces of shit they have been for a long time now. Whatever you think about Microsoft or Sony, Nintendo is worse, and no amount of bright Fisher Price colors and gimmicky nostalgia bait changes that fact. Of course, it's not all their fault, the grown ass man-babies buying DLC video game figurines, carry some of the burden.

Now, just wait for the usual 3-4 people of the Nintendo cult in here to start the usual and tired by now defence force and tell us that we're all "trolls" and "haters".

Imagine if Microsoft and/or Sony did the same thing, this thread would have already reached 20 pages mostly due to the usual suspects "concern trolling" - the very thing that they accuse others of.

Literally the most greedy company out there exceeding both MS and Sony by a long, long, long mile, Amiibos = physical DLC, worst refund policies in existence (even worse than Sony's if that's even possible), 80 Eurodollars pricetag for their always a generation behind hardware, terribad LCD fake HDR screen on a 450+ Eurodollars system, absolute laziness when it comes to BC games which are still stuck in 30fps and 540p/720p hell...

G'damn disgrace of a company, and the worst thing, their absolute dweeb minions eat it all up.

Got a switch 2 on day1 (unfortunately), can't wait to get rid of it - the final straws were the "you should read/watch reviews before buying a game from our store just to be sure" response I got upon asking for a refund for a game that kept crashing (Cookie cutter), the idiotic , still 60+ pricetag for 8 year old games and their absolute insufferable fanbase.

Amiibos are a scam that are just as bad as microtransactions. Here buy this 30 dollar hunk of plastic to get content for a game u already paid 60 to 70 dollars for. It preys on young kids and teens but since it's Nintendo people let it slide. Defending this is insane.

That doesn't mean the game needs to be mute.

Such a narrow minded view of how to achieve the feel of isolation and immersion in a game.

Play Super Metroid and see how its done properly while also having great music that isn't just forgettable ambience most of the time.

They took content out of a game and put it in a 30 dollar hunk of plastic ala a microtransaction. It's the truth and amiibos are one of the biggest gaming scams in the industry. Nintendo takes content from the base game and puts it in an amiibo for people to buy. They've been doing it for years.

No, they're worse. They cost more than just putting the DLC on the store, and as you say they prey on children. Scummy ass Nintendo doing scummy ass Nintendo things, and they always get away with it because the cult doesn't question.

So all kids toys prey on kids (lol) and those that don't even unlock game content and are just the plastic hunks are even more scummy for offering less, huh. Since when do micro transactions not slide, they're huge in this industry from every company, pretty much the norm and standard. Also often even worse in that you have to roll for random rewards you paid for rather than know exactly what you're getting when you buy it. And no forever toy to go with it after the digital goods' inevitable end of service! Anyway, again, welcome to 2014 mate, glad they let you out of your cage/room/cell.

Man, as if the annoying zoomer dialog and NPCs weren't enough to ruin the immersion, you also need to do something outside the game using a physical object to get the "full experience".

Yes Nintendo, that's the true Metroid experience i always wanted. You nailed it.

I don't find it offensive at all. I find it to be a brilliant business move.

I was going to respond to this seriously but then kept reading and realized idk what you're even talking about in all honesty.
