Nintendo locks background music for empty open world in Metroid Prime 4 behind amiibo paywall

This is lame, because it simultaneously makes the base game more annoying without providing anything of substantial value to the person who buys the amiibo. If Nintendo is going to keep clinging to the toys-to-life craze long after everyone else has abandoned it, they need to put more work in to create unique in-game cosmetics to accompany each figure. This shit screams "we put zero thought into this, so let's take a minor feature we already have and lock it behind a paywall." Just shitty for both amiibo collectors and people who just want to buy the game and have a complete experience.

Imagine being the creator of the track.
"You're doing what with my music?"

Judging by the rest of this thread, I think what's paywalled isn't a new track, but rather a "radio" mode on the motorcycle that lets you play background tracks from other parts of the game while you explore, which, honestly, is even more lame than a custom track.

Now, just wait the usual 3-4 people of the Nintendo cult in here to start the usual and tired by now defence force and tell us all that we're "trolls" and "haters".

Imagine if Microsoft and/or Sony did the same thing, this thread would have already reached 20 pages mostly due to the usual suspects "concern trolling" - the very thing that they accuse others of.

Literally the most greedy company out there exceeding both MS and Sony by a long, long, long mile, Amiibos = physical DLC, worst refund policies in existence (even worse than Sony's if that's even possible), 80 Eurodollars pricetag for their always a generation behind hardware, terribad LCD fake HDR screen on a 450+ Eurodollars system, absolute laziness when it comes to BC games which are still stuck in 30fps and 540p/720p hell...

G'damn disgrace of a company, and the worst thing, their absolute dweeb minions eat it all up.

Got a switch 2 on day1 (unfortunately), can't wait to get rid of it - the final straws were the "you should read/watch reviews before buying a game from our store just to be sure" response I got upon asking for a refund for a game that kept crashing (Cookie cutter), the idiotic , still 60+ pricetag for 8 year old games and their absolute insufferable fanbase.
i m accepting donations XD

I was planning on getting a Switch 2 at some point down the road once there were enough games to justify it, but the more time goes on the less I want it. Everyone worrying about Sony without MS around and Nintendo is out here doing this shit.

Have a Snickers.

The largest complaint I've read about the Metro series is the music sucks.
I've never played one but most of the reviews I've read mention the music and how bad it is.

edit-metro-metroid. It's all the same game right?

is this real ? how did ppl cope with that back in the days ?
Very similar. I'm pretty sure there was this exact type of thread posted on here for that occasion.

Is the unlocked music even any good? Any samples of it?
It's just tracks from the regular OST in other areas of the game. This doesn't unlock anything new.

I haven't started playing yet but the main theme and "Fury Green" tracks are great.

Definitely not true for the mainline Metroid Prime series.

Brilliant stuff.

Metroid Dread's OST was very unremarkable though.

Companies always try to move the breaking point as further as customers allow....This kinda shit should be a whole fucking deal for everyone, more than the critic´s score of the game....But yet i see stupid people defending this shit or stating they´ll happily buy the Amiibo.

Also see what happened with the latest Pokemon mediocre subpar looking game, or the fact that Switch 2 it´s the first console i remember with a physical button (Gamechat) to a mandatory paid service (sadly, i pay NSO Expansion Pass myself, but this is crazy). And they have got away with all of it...

And not just Nintendo, you see people here defending on Sony´s side with passion price raising on PS5, or stuff no one asked for, just fanboys, like PS5 Pro (more expensive and with way less added value than what was PS4 Pro) and PS5 Portal (we need a proper PSP successor, not a Wii U gamepad Knockoff which needs mandatory Internet conection to work), while we have a PS5 catalogue 5 years later still being plagued with upgraded PS4 games....

Or on MS side, people defeding the console and Gamepass price rising, or their exclusives "killer apps" going straight to the competition...

So, companies in fact are just responding to the delusional passion or just lack of knowledge from most part of their userbase, which seems that will allow everything, just for the sake of a console war, or whatsoever!

When are we gonna punish them with our wallets?

At least on my end, won´t buy Metroid Prime 4 for now, and probably won´t renew next year my NSO service.

You can hear the ambient music track in that very clip, so there is BGM for the desert without an Amiibo.

It guess its annoying to lock the "radio" behind Amiibos but I'm not that bothered personally because I wouldnt mix music from the other areas with the desert, that would not make sense to me since those tracks are motifs connected to their respective areas.

I bought a deck of amibo cards for my kid back with BOTW, is there a similar deck for all these switch 2 games? I really don't care about or track amibos.

Some music options is crazy?

I'd argue locking a difficulty setting behind the Ganondorf Amiibo in Twilight Princess HD was way worse than this.
Locking ANYTHING behind the purchase of a toy figurine is way too crazy yeah.

Paying consumers? get fucked in the ass.
Game preservation? ass fucked in the get
Pirate boys? Not affected at all, they'll just pirate the DLC as well.

It's not just crazy, it's fucked up beyond measure.

Nintendo has really lost it.

I mean this whole open world desert in a Metroid game, that you need this bike to traverse, was already a massive change and a tough sell for the franchise. They didn't have to make it even worse.

I've defended the desert/bike inclusion in the game and the federation troopers but I'm not going to defend this.
Well... the locked music is just a matter of pure greed. It doesn't affect the game more than messing with the the intended atmosphere in one area. The troopers is a matter of bad design and a complete misunderstanding of what a Metroid game should be. It ruins the atmosphere and tone of the game in a more substantial way.

You could easily fix the music issue if you really wanted. You could buy the Amiibo at the end of the day or use emulation and/or a very simple mod when they become available. But what can you do to fix the federation troopers? It's going to be much harder to mod those fuckers out of the game.

So i think the troopers are worse. I rather have a game i would like to play with some locked content out of greed than a game i wouldn't want to play in the first place.

People also get mad when the amiibos don't do anything special lol.

Also I'd bet that no one commenting in this thread knows what they are talking about. Just a hunch tho. I'm not always right.

Gaming companies removed game unlocks from games that were rewards for doing challenges or fun playthroughs and sold them back to us while raising the price of the game itself.
They removed cheats because Microsoft said it was to keep the integrity of achievements, but they again sold them back to us as dlc while making games cost more.
Now Nintendo is selling a game like Metroid 4, for full price, then wanting you to buy a sperate over priced plastic toy for fucking music for a traversal part. Music that helps the atmosphere and world building of a game is not fully included unless tou overpay after overpaying.

Guess that E.A fucker years ago that thought charging per bullet in a shooting game isn't the biggest laughing stock to these companies anymore, but an inspiration.

How did this ugly, cheap, outdated ass game score 8's?

Should be in the 4s and 5s from the shit ive seen.

How is this not bigger news. Imagine if COD did this, industry wide outrage. Nintendo? Barely anything. Lmfao. A sheepish cult.

Edit: What was the nickname for Nintendo fanboys back in the Gamespot SystemWars days? Sheep, was it? Fitting... TSHBO.

Agree completely.

Unfortunately, gamers as a whole are not known to be particularly smart with their spending, but still Nintendo fans are on a level of their own.

But I think this is changing, at least (anecdotally) in my circle of friends, even die-hard Nintendo fans for 30 years are getting fed up by all this shameless cash grabbing.
