It: Welcome to Derry - Teaser Trailer

In episode 3, not important to the story at all, but
Alan Shepard first human in space ?? I was surprised Will didn't react to that.
 
Think that's all the kids we'll get now in this Losers Club? Apart from the bullies/popular girls I don't think they've really focused on any others.

Looks like they're not gonna pussyfoot around showing Pennywise in the later episodes, he's there pretty prominently in his clown form.
 
Good ep but I kinda hated the bathroom scene, too many cringe predictable tropes used there.
First she obviously stupidly fumbles "the fix", then she takes a long as time to find her, then they did the whole stupid let me hold this thing like a weapon right as other people barge in to get the wrong idea, and then finally let me not immediately explain and get help she needs, but instead stutter and look even more suspicious.

I've only watched three episodes, but I've been somewhat pleasantly surprised. It has a lot more gore than expected and some scenes are quite disturbing. The child actors are pretty bad except for a few good ones. The racist angles feel a bit tacked on and it's a lot better when we get to follow the black people in "normal" situations, like in the airplane. I like how they are slowly unraveling the mystery of Peniswise.

Those racist themes has always been there in the book, I don't think it's tacked on at all

Unlike Plaribus (which my weak pathetic-self couldn't resist watching) I am going to binge this one. So far the thread impressions have been great so Im looking forward to some horror over my xmas break!
 
They're going lore heavy with this, which is definitely a bit "find out all the backstory details you never wanted in this streaming TV show", buuuuut....I'm interested

Big disagreement there. I love the backstory bits. Can only speak for myself, but I bet a lot of people who read all the Steven King books appreciate it.

Well like I said, I am admittedly in on this one even if it's become a bit of a cliche at this point to try to cash in on a popular property in this way. But there is so much King back matter that was pre-existing. I mean this getting into Dark Tower stuff isn't it? Tbh the holy Grail of King stories. Really need a proper adaptation of that.

Nice touch of putting 1 shard in turtle shells.
Thought the story of the shards would turn out to be the reason why he can only leave the woods every 27 years.

Is the army looking for the entity or the shards? Just thinking the Major was in the Western Woods as a boy so he would know where they were.
 
Wasn't bad Wasn't good. Just moving the story forward enough to watch next week.

They should've used more of the budget on making the show actually scary.

All those dead kids and people down there and that was all Halloran saw?

Well Halloran is kind of fucked right now due to Pennywise opening his personal lock box. Halloran used the lock box to put his fear into, shiners have that ability. So it's going to be interesting how that effects Halloran in the future

Another function the lock box has is it's also used to trap and contain ghosts and entities. I'm guessing that now it's been open, whatever escaped is probably something that can feed off the shine

Cool ep, I only didn't like that the soldier just started blasting, dumping his entire mag; that was weird.
Also the kids not noticing one of them was missing while they just stood there was also weird, though I guess they needed a way to separate her and get her to find the shard, which as a cool scene.
 
Just finished watching the latest episode of IT Welcome To Derry. It was another fantastic episode



I love the flashbacks and it was pretty effective with the way they only used the red balloon as the only color when those flashbacks are in black and white

Halloran explaining to Leroy what exactly the lockbox does was a really good scene. Spoilers for Doctor Sleep book, adult Danny Torrance teaches Abra Stone how to make her own personal lockbox.

When it comes to the show, I'm really happy they are connecting to the Kingverse

Looks like we will be seeing the burning of The Black Spot next Sunday



We have two more episodes left, can't wait

What? They're doing connections to the Shining? *reads some shit* Oh, my.. a young Dick Halloran?
I may have to binge this... I know the people who did the movies are involved, so that leaves me with some hope that it'll be at least decent enough to finish through.

Just wait for the last two episodes to air so that you can binge it. I'm loving this show since It is Top 3 King books for me. And I can tell they actually love the IP due to actually going into Shiners abilities.
 
I've been enjoying it so far, but damn that scene in the sewers (ep5) made me annoyed.

When characters die in a stupid and unnecessary way it completely removes any meaning or emotional impact from it. It's so insanely easy to actually make a death seem reasonable so it's peak laziness in my eyes.

You will feel better in this last episode when it comes to that. Though I disagree on it being stupid or unnecessary with how that scene ypu both depicted went down. Many variables where simply pushing shoving grabbing would lead to a child being ____
 
If episode 7 is out, I need to watch it. It's a bit hit or miss for me so far. It certainly has great moments but also very forgettable ones. Doesn't help that you have to wait a full week for an episode, they gotta stop doing this shit. The sole purpose of subbing to a platform is to not deal with that shit, yet here we are.

So far the part in the grocery store was the most creepy one for me personally. Also was quite unnerving to see Ep6:

enjoyed this ep but it was the weakest one for me so far.
The entire encounter at the start, while looking cool, was completely nonsensical.
Everything basically happened because hank felt like he needed to show his face, all he had to do was stay hidden while the others call their bluff.
And on the events itself, there's absolutely no way some mob kills a ton of soldiers, women and children and the federal government wouldn't get involved to investigate what happened; nothing to see here folks, there was a fire and people died, dunno lol 🤷‍♂️
Also hallorann could've just shined to see exactly who they were etc.

The fakeout of having him going to sleep also saw coming from a mile away, though the justification for destroying the pillar I didn't see coming because it was just plain retarded.
 
The reasoning for no real reaction is two things: they're mostly black and it's Derry.

As was pointed out in the show and the other adaptations and book, things happen in Derry and no one takes much notice.

I was just thinking either the Black Spot is a TARDIS or they learned how to get the most out of the space from Bob Villa (Freaked reference).
 
Long before the cinematic universes frenzy, King was connecting many of his books with The Dark Tower and The Shining as the pillars of his Kingverse.
 
The fire bombing of the clubhouse scene was the most frightening yet. Horrific. The thought of being trapped in a chaotic burning building, and then the murderous clown entity arrives in the midst of it all .... oof.

I feel like this show has been slightly uneven, but the highs are really high. I'm looking forward to the finale and hoping that if things aren't wrapped up nicely that a second season is on the docket.

Skarsgard is so damned good as Pennywise, Muschietti can direct some choice horror, and the imagery is often startlingly vivid.

When It uses the deadlights, it basically nullifies the target lifeforms consciousness, renders them immobile, and I believe preserves them if It desires it (so he came keep them around and consume them at its leisure). I haven't read the book since I was a kid, but I am pretty sure I have it right.

The deadlights work differently for other entities in the Dark Tower mythos.

the lights are IT's true form, they are basically looking at an incomprehensible eldritch terror which makes the souls much "tastier" for IT to consume, because they are being loaded with fear; it can be the same as eating them, but some strong minds can come back from it so it's not an immediate death/meal like his regular kills.
 
I cant remember the book either. The Stand keeps popping in there.

So the deadlights feast on the soul but leave the flesh intact?

I wonder if it's going to turn out the shards kept IT subdued as well between feasting sessions? I still don't like the military angle. Derry was its own little puddle of filth, I'll be pretty annoyed if they just tie all the Derry stuff to this IT
