Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

Saros looks decent visually. Animation isn't Housemarque's forte just yet.
its a pretty decent upgrade over Returnal. Im happy with it.

The problem is that the gameplay is way too similar and Returnal barely even sold a million units. It's good to see them do a fully fledged out story instead of that bizarre abstract story in the first, but $70 rougelikes are not a big sell. maybe if it was an action adventure game with rougelite elements...

Guerrilla Games has been jerking off to GaaS since early 2022. In 2 months time, they will have gone 4 years without showing anything.
Bluepoint and Bend were also GaaS bound since 2020 before having their games cancelled. They are starting from scratch.

These studios are some of the most poorly managed and laziest studios on the planet. Making video games isnt this hard. We had plenty of games at the show. Jim Ryan and Herman Hulst took arguably the greatest collection of first party studios ever assembled and ruined them in a span of 5 years.

Game looks nice overall but RT is super simple here, no wonder that it runs even on base PS5 (I think):



There is some weird stretching effect with reflections that remind me of Far Cry 6 RT.

yep. noticed that too but thats ok, the floors and walls reflect light properly and i can live with some oddities. I think smart use of ray tracing is the way to go. Not everything has to be a 100% accurate. Especially on consoles that dont have the power to do ray tracing properly while also pushing geometric detail.

Also, that video is a great example of how poor these games can look on youtube. That looks nothing like what it does on my screen.

Am I the only one disappointed by Control 2? The cutscenes looked next gen as fuck, I was like hello there. But then the gameplay started and it just looks mid. i wonder if its the youtube effect because im struggling to see the upgrades over Control 1, let alone AW2 which looks a generation ahead.

Yeah I'm a bit worried they're working on too many things at once. FBC didn't come out that long ago and Control 2 coming out next year already as well the max payne remake being due also. I'm a bit worried they're overstretched.

It seems that Sam Lake is not really involved in the project, it feels like it will be more of an experiment than their full blown next masterpiece game

its missing a lot. Watch the Tomb Raider Catalyst trailer. Although its mostly CG until the very last open world clip. Exodus gameplay trailer. Pragmata Release Date Trailer. Resident Evil Requiem Leon Reveal trailer. Phantom Blade Zero gameplay trailer. And a bunch of chinese shovelware you dont want to watch.

Interesting that he's not involved. Maybe he's working on the Max Payne 1 and 2 stories. They are a full on remake so he's probably rewriting the script and reshooting all the cinematics.

The said, they said its their biggest game ever made.
 
Control 2 gameplay doesn't look impressive at all. In fact, it looks very bad. Dare I say, it looks like an indie game.

A gen behind Phantom Blade 0. 2 gens behind in the animation department.

Great cutscenes though.

i like that they have multiple teams working on games simultaneously. They are a relatively large studio with around 300 devs and we've seen that smaller studios can produce next gen graphics. I just dont know why there is such a big gulf between gameplay and cutscenes which looked absolutely magnificent. Like Represent said, it looks like an indie game at times. Only problem is that indie games look next gen nowadays lol
Phantom Blade 0 is not a soulslike. It's a straight up DMC style action game.

It has:

- Difficulty options
- Enemies don't respawn after death, you don't lose your souls after death.
- No punishment after death
- Fast paced combat
- Actual story, high level production values, is cinematic.

Only thing it borrows from souls is the interconnected worlds really.

The game coreography for the enemies and attacks is a couple of notches better that anything i saw in the soulslike genre even if the setting is generic as fuck.

The game is immediately recognizible if you saw all the previous trailers, nobody is doing animations quite like this game where it almost look scripted but you always have full control.

It must be Youtube, I think it's another RE9 situation in that they purposely went with an aspect ratio that does badly with Youtube specifically.
 


This is the one you need to see. Nothing else had any real gameplay in it for any respectable amount of time. Best looking game at the show, and Animations are god tier as well

Best looking games of the show is definitely no low and tomb raider Atlantic both shown gameplay,, also I think that star wars racing game looks really good if what they shown is gameplay, that said phantom blade zero looks good as always

I am so happy for Tomb Raider. It's going to fun to compare with U4 which looked absolutely stunning in its outdoor forest areas. But this game is likely built on UE5 (i know the crystal dynamics game is, not sure about this one but it looks UE5) and has a very similar art style as U4. Especially the lighting color tones looks straight up lifted from the U4 island levels. U4 island forests had incredible baked lighting, and very dense foliage so we will finally get to see how Lumen and Nanite work in those environments on modern hardware.
 
Man Leon's character model looks a generation ahead of the chick's face. Maybe its the lack of wrinkles and facial hair, but to me the skin shaders are way more plasticky on Grace.

yes, massive generational upgrade over the previous yakuza game. love the fat protagonist too. very different and awesome looking character model. supposedly its based on a real actor which is kinda funny.

I like the model, I just don't care for the way the gameplay looks. Some of the animations shown in the trailer like the shooting and the flip look stuck in the early 2000s with how bad they are. They're so stiff.

Not nextgen at all compared to the best metahumans but she looks great nevertheless, the power of not looking lik a fucking dude goes a long way...she looks way better than the re9 chick.

When they zoom on her equipment\clothes it looked pretty fucking detailed tho, not nextgen but right there with the best we have.

I'm not really seeing the hype with No Law. I mean yes it looks solid, and impressive for an AA game... But is it really any better than something like Robocop???

For me the animations are such a big deal in Phantom Blade 0 that I put it over other games that may be more technically impressive. What S-Game is doing with the animations is much more impressive than anything in that No Law trailer

Tomb Raider upon a watch in 4K does look quite good.

The Yakuza games since Zero at least have always had highly detailed faces in cutscenes. They use a lot of real actors as models and it shows with the realistic touches. And I'm pretty sure cutscenes are in-engine. But, yeah, those details don't make it into the gameplay.

TR Catalyst will probably be the graphics king for a while unless Witcher 4 or GTA6 port comes out first.
