Ace combat 8 announced

I thought this looked good, never played any games in the series before but is tempting

Just grab 7, it usually goes on sale for 12-15 Eurodollars on PSN/MS store.

Unfortunately, you can't play the others unless you have the DVD of AC6 which can be played via BC (it's been delisted) and /or a PS2 for the rest of the games...

Cheers

I hope they take some notes from Project Wingman. While AC7 was prettier, i much preferred the missions and weapons of Project Wingman. More missions of "blow all this stuff up on the map, oh look over there, more stuff." and less "fly through the canyon for 10 minutes to blow up a building. "

I have one called Assault Horizon (also on Steam) but it looks pretty dated

That's the weird westernized one back when the japanese industry tried to westernize all their franchises. As far as those types of games go, it's one of the better ones. But it's a terrible ace combat game and doesn't reflect the franchise well. Fun if you like call of duty style campaigns though.

But emulate all the old ones if you can. This is one of the most consistently high quality franchises in gaming.

No mention of PSVR2 support has me worried this will be flat-only. Please Namco, don't let that playful tweet exchange about AC8 on PSVR2 between Shuhei Yoshida and the AC producer be just that, a playful tweet.

Never got into this, but was a huge H.A.W.X. fan and have almost caved on AC7 several times. Is it worth getting into?

Its like H.A.W.X but much better overall due to interesting story due to good cinematography of cutscenes, great (sort of cheesy) voice acting, amazing music, awesome cloud simulation/graphics and addicting gameplay. It has a good variety of types of missions across the game so some are more scripted and cinematic and some are "destroy as much as you can within a time limit".

The replayability comes from buying new aircraft and parts so you can do the missions faster/more efficiently or just in different ways. Like for example you can go back to the first mission with ultra long range missiles and blow up the enemies way before they assume you would.

I played H.A.W.X back in the day and never played another Ace Combat before AC7 and I love it to bits.

If you're on PC its like 4 quid on Steam right now, you should definitely get it immediately.

I'm on PlayStation, but it looks like it's on sale there too. Probably going to grab it, thanks!

If they include PSVR2 support I'm in day 1.

Yeah I'm still gutted AC7 never got an update for PSVR2 after I bought that, surely they will include at least a few missions playable in PSVR2 at this point.

I do still think theres a not-small chance the whole game won't be playable on PSVR2, its probably a lot of work for them to have both VR and flat work perfectly for a whole game and they probably started developing this before PSVR2 came out.

If project wingman did full game psvr support then there's no excuse for namco not to.

Excellent. Just the VR support missing for now

If they're still using UE then someone will make it run on UEVR even if there's no official release.

One of my favorite series in gaming. Glad to see its back.
Been a long wait since 7.
AC7 was actually one of the weakest entries in the series - and im hoping for better from 8.

For this trailer for 8, something about the squadmates being a young girl with pink highlights and their tacky colorful squadname helmets looked slightly off to me. Catering to the younger crowd I guess. Hoping for the best...

Agreed on all points. Still going to support the series no matter what.

Sure, it's the weakest. But I think it does its job to make sure the fans know that "Ace Combat is back." Especially after the cases of Assault Horizon and Infinity.

I thought the girl was kind of tacky, too. But from the information that has come in, it's clear that she is one of the civilian survivors.

Hopefully the mission structure and gameplay gimmick are both better in 8. If so they'll have a real winner on their hands, because everything else is so good.

What's the best Ace combat game out of the lot of them?

Zero > 5 > 4 > 6 = 7

I haven't played the others but hear great things about 3 as well, though it's probably quite dated.
