What game are you currently playing?

Lords of the Fallen

This game slaps hard. Probably the best Souls-like that isn't produced by From. The graphics are top notch, they've nailed the dark fantasy theme and the combat is a lot of fun. Doing a pyro build and burning enemies to crisp never gets old. It balanced well with the difficulty, has lots of cool weapons and fashion Souls. The level design can be a bit confusing but the world building is excellent with how everything is connected. Very impressive stuff.

The lamp mechanics bring a fresh spin to the concept. The fact that the devs have built a secret hidden world underneath the real one is so frigging cool. It adds tension and variety to the combat and exploration, and also cool bits of lore and character development. It's probably the first game I played where devs actually did something with the "power of the ssd" when creating this dual world mechanic. Love the creativity at display here 👌

I can see myself putting some serious hours into this, with different builds every playthrough, just like I did with Dark Souls. Lotf feels like a spiritual successor to DS, hell it even feels like Dark Souls 4 at some points. And that's the highest praise I can give.
One of my favorite things is the modifiers for new game after beating it once. The randomized loot completely throws away the drop farming and progressing just to pickup an item. It is also nice to have equipment pre-upgraded to around your level to reduce the upkeep.

I finally hooked my Wii up to my Retrotink 4K, and I threw Mario Galaxy in. I'd been meaning to give this one a go-through after being hyped up for the new re-release on the Switch 2 and being disappointed by the art changes in the new version (and the lingering issues with controls, which just aren't designed to replicate the Wiimote).

Mario Galaxy remains one of the feel-goodest games of all time. Piped through the Retrotink 4K, the Wii finally looks good. I've only ever played the system on LCD displays, which naturally don't do a good job of upscaling 480p and definitely don't do a good job of stretching a non-anamorphic signal into widescreen. Playing through the Retrotink with a CRT filter applied, I feel like I'm playing this system in an alternate history where we didn't kick CRTs to the curb overnight. I'm completely satisfied with how this system looks, for the first time basically ever. The whole experience is a perfect reminder of just how good gaming can be.

FF7 Remake Integrade Switch 2 Free Demo Download Now

Very pleasant experience, way shorter since I know how to play the game now compared to my first experience with the demo, I'll probably buy the game when it comes out

I'm still on Metroid Prime 4 and it took a turn for the worse recently - almost to the point that I felt like just quitting the game altogether..

I don't understand, the Wii U supports 16:9 already, what stretching are you talking about ?

The Wii supports 16:9, but it doesn't send an anamorphic widescreen signal, meaning that it basically just sends the TV a scrunched together image that's still 4:3 that you need to rely on your TV to stretch out. TVs do a notoriously awful job of that. Unfortunately for the Wii, it came out just as LCDs were becoming mainstream, so a lot of people are used to only ever seeing the Wii look like junk in large part because of that. Not too many were fortunate enough to have a 480p widescreen CRT, which would have 100% been ideal.

Yeah, doing a NG+ with modifiers is gonna be a real treat 😃

Resident Evil 7. Had it for a long time but never manage to find the time to start playing it.

Excellent game especially playing in the dark. Probably do a few more replays before moving on to the next backlog.

About to wrap up Leon's campaign in RE2 Remake.

I love this game and playing it now on PC with M+K with the best possible settings on OLED with 120 fps is just a marvel. I loved this playthrough so much I like to just play it all over again but alas there are so many other games to play. Gonna jump straight into RE3 Remake once I'm done and the perhaps RE4 Remake as well so I'm done with all of them before RE9 is released.

That said, I will never understand how some people don't seem to dig this game. It's so well made and it's kinda surreal it actually managed to live up to the hype after we've been asked for it for more than a decade (and I was there from day one). I mean, I love the tank controls as much as the next guy (more than most probably) but they actually managed to come up with gameplay here that's even better. So good. I just wish we've gotten a complete B-scenario. It's such a shame. I'm doing Claire/Leon now for the first time and actually think the police station is (minus the double Birkin boss fight) well made in both scenarios but after that it's just overlapping way to much... Still, I will always love this game and be thankful that Capcom made it.

I don't know if I'm technically "playing" or literally READING this game LOL! Obviously SNATCHER for Sega CD is a visual novel (with point + click adventure style) but there's a segment early on when you have to log into your computer. And have to READ a database of history for about 30 minutes straight, with a clunky interface that doesn't indicate what you read, and you have to keep scrolling through sub-sections etc....I mean couldn't this have been a cutscene?!? Probably would have made it 4 discs instead of one.

Definitely getting me into the CYBERPUNK mood again would love to play more games with this aesthetic!!

I assume you mean the metroid-bike section...
I'm kind of indifferent about the bike tbh.

I just finished the "Great" mines, and it was a lot of things, but great was not one of them. Having to revive the NPC's almost drove me insane. This'll probably be the Metroid Prime game in which "I" have gotten the most game over's ever.

Commandos Origins: just snuck into an extremely heavily fortified base. Disabled all the mounted machine guns. Broke all their cars. Took out all guards on the perimeter. Then snuck into the barracks and knifed 20 people one by one in their beds. 👍

I just wrapped up a playthrough of Neon Inferno. I really liked it, atmosphere, gameplay and artstyle were top notch and stages were really fun to play

Beside it I'm also playing Tomb Raider Anniversary and finishing Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse

Impulse bought KCD2 Royale Edition (Steam sale, 50%). What a fucking amazing game. Started playing at 7PM yesterday and played till 2AM. I haven't even started the first one and I fear that I HAVE to stop playing this game as I can't go back to the older one if I continue playing the sequel (I mean, obvious).

Quickly:
  • Amazing writing, especially Hans and Henry scenes and dialogues are so funny, natural and charming. Everyone feels quirky, natural and planted.
  • Warm visuals, very realistic. Atmospheric and high quality polish. Idyllic and serene.
  • The story is whimsical to the core, the setting and the low stakes action is so magnetic. I don't need a grand adventure to save the world, I don't need a pretentious head or bracelet to tell me things.
  • Packed with content, attention to detail is on point.
  • High player agency, freedom and funny af. I can just do whatever I want. First town, went inside a house, robbed, maid saw me, killed, another maid saw me, chased her through the town till I died when the police/guards started fighting me lol. Saw a women washing clothes while I splashed myself and she made a snark comment, punched her and became a criminal. hahaha
  • Very memorable, I still am thinking the whole day about hans, his coy laugh, the story where he got an arrow in his arse...so much more.
  • Beautiful loading scenes.
  • Peak Cinema!

Technical
  • Amazingly optimized, RTX4070M, I'm running this at everything high at 1440P, DLAA (transformer model, also overrode in NVidia panel) at silky, buttery smooth 80FPS). ( btw, turn shaders to low and turn off any AA else game is blurry af, in-game frame limiter and V-Sync are also broken, use NVIDIA global settings).
  • There's mouse jitter, fixed by mouse smoothing mod at Nexus. The headbob is also kinda insane but again quick drop mod at Nexus.
  • always on crosshair is kinda useless, I'm using a third party software, Crosshair X to put one.
  • Inventory/map/journal UI text is blurry
Negatives
  • Combat is ass, janky but when it works it's fun. Also frustrating to die so many times but kinda addictive.
  • More than ( >= 2 ) and lock-in breaks, really hard to fight against a group. Mouse swipe to select direction to hit is near impossible at the heat of combat.
  • You die real quick, you loose stamina real, real quick.
  • Brewing potions is cool for a while but a chore quickly, also finding herbs/flowers/plants is difficult, it's not clear which one it is?
Anyways, Audentes Fortuna Iuvat!

Cyberpunk second playthrough. I played on ps5 first time, and it was beautiful. Playing on a hefty card with path tracing this time. It's impressive and not at the same time. I can do it though and it's the gold standard for lighting so I'm enjoying that. Otherwise, trying to mix up from my hacker last time to katana chopper. Also, there are a ton of updates and the phantom liberty expansion to change things up.

But I won't get the computer for much of that in the foreseeable future. Wife just started KCD2 yesterday. Holy fuck is that overwhelming. She's been steadily stepping up to more and more complex rpgs over the years, and is looking forward to all the menu work and systems. For me, it looks like A LOT. Game seems super cool so far.

I picked up 3 games on sale and they are added to my immediate queue:

Blade Chimera(heard good things), Wavetale(heard meh things but it was only $2.99) and Turbo Overkill(heard good things). Will get to them in the coming days/weeks.

It is a short but relaxing and fun time with an art direction like The Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker. No other game has water running this good. Even if the platforming and combat are just serviceable there is enough plot development to stay engaged.

Just played through Superliminal in one setting; what a great little puzzle game that forces you t think outside the box and has such a warm and wholesome message. Kudos to the developer. I highly recommend it!

I finally managed to finish Tomb Raider 2 Remastered (and its expansion), took over a year and a looong break. I definitely had better memories of the game and I ended up with a bunch of levels I didn't like that much (mostly the later ones and the wreck levels also dragged on for too long). The game also goes pretty crazy with the amount of traps placed in nastiest spots, I almost felt like I was playing Little Nightmares with some forced trial & error bits to learn about the things wanting to kill me and avoid them on the second (or third of fourth) try.

I definitely enjoyed TR1 more, it wasn't so frustrating and I liked most of its levels. They were also more memorable.

This is the best thread because it's full of people who actually play games.

I have a good opening to get in some cyberpunk rn. This game will take me sooooo long. It really gets me to lollygag and soak it in. It's immersive, beautiful, and has a great fantasy-alternative setting.

I just wish for more interaction. Nothing does it like elder scrolls games and vr games. All the interactable clutter make a huge difference to immersion.

currently I'm playing,
Shinobi: AoV on the Steam Deck, it's freaking great.
Routine on my PC, finally a decent adventure game!
and Splitgate 2 on Series X, a modern Halo game, but it's actually good!

I just beat Link to the Past for the first time solo. I had beaten it with friends 30 years ago, and I'm sure I've played through it with an ex or two. But this was the first time I played start to finish on my own.

Wish they still made them like this.

Really have to get used to play around with all settings on PC before actually starting a new game....

So I just started RE3 Remake and was having some issues with the blacks. It's just didn't feel right. Then I discovered that aside from the usual performance setting I can also change the color space.... Long story short, changing the color space from sRGB to Rec.709 made to get go from looking amazing to... Mother of God... it's just blowing me away. I can't believe I played through RE2 Remake and missed out on this. It's absolutely incredible. I did not expect that. First time I actually notice the benefits of Raytracing. Been a while since I had a WoW-effect like this when it comes to graphics. And by that I mean back in PS4 days...

Street of Rage 4.

I actually just finished the story mode. That was great, the game has tons of depth if you want to dedicate the time to master all the mechanics. The last stage was awesome, it's a good skill check to make sure you understand the game mechanics and how to approach most enemies. I will keep it installed and see if I can clear it at higher difficulties, and maybe dabble with different characters.

Cleansed my third beacon in LotF. I've been absolutely hooked on this during the holidays. I haven't had this much fun with a game in a long time. I'm a sucker for Souls-games and this is in the upper echelons of the genre. Hexworks has done an amazing job here. It's just outstanding work, especially the world building. The different areas are so cool looking and fun to explore. I'm already thinking about doing new playthroughs with different builds, it's gonna be so much fun going in to NG+. Can't wait!

Bought Tetris Effect today after loving Lumines Arise, so playing those.
Also bought Sektori and put 2 hours into it straight away, they game is like crack!
Making my way through Judgement and got back into CarX Street. Oh and Hades 2. And Triangle Strategy, No Rest for the Wicked... I play many games...

Beat Monument Valley collection. It has all 3 games. I really enjoyed it. I know they're originally iOS titles, but I still really liked them. I think the console collection changed some things from the iOS versions and added some stuff because after I finished 3 the progress room showed me missing some stuff so I checked Youtube to see what I was missing and I can't figure out what I'm missing because I beat the same levels everyone else did, although the layout was different than from their versions so I don't know what's up with that.

Not the best puzzle games I ever played but pretty damn creative and I loved some of the art design of the levels and puzzles it was really cool. Had a lot of fun with it, glad I bought it. You'd probably have to be hardcore into puzzle games to enjoy them but if you are might be worth looking into.

Crow Country.

Really good throwback to old PS1 era graphics and aesthetic with modern control sensibilities (you can use tank controls if needed). I had a blast playing this.

Lost Records: Bloom and Rage - Finished 9/10
Really enjoyed this, so much so that I played it and finished it in almost one sitting. Loved the 90s vibe, the setting, and the characters.

Terminator Resistance
I heard this wasn't as good as the Robocop game, but I've been enjoying it more, maybe because I'm more of a Terminator fan. On my way to Pasadena, but stopped to do some sidequests before tackling the main story mission.

Final Fantasy VII
Just arrived at the Gold Saucer...wahey! Love this place.

On a completely different note, I also spend some time playing online casino games, and it's been surprisingly fun to explore different platforms and games. I recently found this site https://casino-portugal.pt/casino/, which helped me discover trustworthy online casinos in Portugal. It's really useful for checking out the best bonuses, payment methods, and popular games like slots, roulette, blackjack, and poker. I've personally used it to find platforms where I feel safe playing, and it made getting started much easier. Mixing a bit of casual casino gaming into my free time has been a great way to unwind, and having a reliable resource like this site makes the experience smooth and enjoyable.
Completely agree. I've been playing KCD2 Royale too, and the freedom in the first town had me experimenting nonstop. Robbing houses, getting chased, just seeing how NPCs react. Hans and Henry are absolute highlights, especially that arrow-in-the-arse story. Combat can be rough, and stamina drains fast, but when it clicks, it's satisfying. Potion crafting is a bit grindy, but the world and interactions make up for it. The writing, humor, and freedom really make this game stick with you.

Just a tip... I found the best source of income to be hunting down animals (or just gutting the wolves along the way), cooking their meat and then selling it. I actually find it a bit overblown just how much money you can make with this.
