What is going on with Fortnite

I play this once in a while, and as time goes on, it's turning more and more into a celebrity money laundering scheme.

75% of the skins are just famous people. Endless variations of celebrities. Tacky cheap explotation of fame and nostalgia.

It is starting to feel like an invasive ad.

I am not sure how long you've been playing this, but they started putting real people into the game around 5 years ago. and had full on DC and Marvel seasons... also around 5 years ago.
they had multiple star wars themed seasons already, multiple Marvel themed ones, they had Transformers based stuff etc.

this is happening since forever.

I got the kill bill uma Thurman skin for free with my $5 a month gamepass ultimate. That is enough for me to look past all that bullshit.

Theyve been adding big names since chapter 2 when they got bored of making new characters.

From a gameplay perpective…honestly I feel the game has improved. But thats mostly because a couple chapters ago they added a no-build mode and that makes the game far more streamlined without having t oworry about sweaty 12 year olds building an entire house in 2 seconds.

As for characters, yeah, its like they saw smash bro's ultikate's tagline "everyone's here!" And said "hold my beer!" Because goddamn, i wasnt expecting miku and godzilla to team up on the recent big-bad but I'm glad i saw it happen

during the finale event last season where she showed up on the bike, they actually got her original german VA to do dub her lines... I didn't expect that attention to detail.

they are actually putting effort in these crossover events. I think the Spongebob companion also was voiced by Santiago Ziesmer (german VA for SpongeBob). so they're not just slapping stuff in and being done with it, they try to do it as well as they can.

edit: which honestly makes me think, kpopSuperstar kpopSuperstar should watch that event 🤣 it explains my Ready Player One comment earlier in the thread... it was fucking insane, and actually is reminiscent of the finaly of Ready Player One 🤣

I don't know what happened to make it so that people say "money laundering" when they think something is expensive.

It literally has less than nothing to do with what money laundering is.

Fortnite has had celebrity and famous IP tie ins for years now. Barely affects the core gameplay in any negative way. In a few months, there'll be a new season and a bunch of new skin taking over

Fortnite, right now, is actually in the best place it's ever been gameplay wise.

Still should have left the battlebus out for the rest of the season though.

they should have brought back projectile based weapons this season tho. the current weapon pool can be annoying due to heing hitscan. the Deadeye AR would have been really fun with bullet travel and bullet drop, but being hitscan makes is a fucking laser beam essentially.

This has been the case for a looooong time. The game is basically just used as a big ad for kids.

This is pretty much the intended byproduct of why companies want a metaverse in gaming.

You basically cross-promote events to grow your thing, just like streamers do collabs to grow.

Still only works if the audience likes consuming, so they seem to be doing better than CoD has ever done...even if I think it's all cringe.

I noticed this in 2019 and quit playing lol.

In regards to recent movies/shows/music/etc, absolutely... but when something like Batman Beyond randomly shows up.. what's the ad for? A show that ended over 20 years ago?

Maybe I'm biased (love Beyond) but I'd argue that sometimes it's just something for the fans of <insert IP here>.

Snyder came to IG 3 months ago and has been on a tear with his posts lol. It's mostly been movie related stuff and then this random ass post.

But also, talk about burying the lede. This is the dope ass collab of the year. Just wish they had Bankai Ichigo.

Imagine the dopamine system of 12-year old kids who spend half their day playing Fortnite while looking at a close-up bouncy metallic-reflective Kim Kardashian ass.

Fucked up for life.

It's an ad for the Batman IP, obviously. I'm fairly sure they still sell toys/merchandise constantly based of off pretty much all Batman designs.

And it's not like it matters when something came out. You can still get people interested and engaged in the brand by just showing people some cool stuff they've never seen before.
