The Long Walk

The cast were amazing, the story showed true brothers in arms moments, and unlike Hunger Games movies you connected with the characters and felt the losses.

What was your favourite?

I guess I'll go with The Accountant 2, since that's my favorite one (out of three) that I saw in theaters this year. Just an entertaining movie. Some of the action was kind of bad, but the dialogue and characters were a lot of fun.

Gotta go with this one:

Great premise, eerie execution, interesting resolution.

Really fun time travel film, extremely well written and paced.

I really liked Weapons, Strange Darling and Exit 8, I would see them again. Bring her back was a bit too hardcore for me with child exploitation scenes, but it was a top horror indeed. As for animated movies - K-pop Demon Hunters!

I don't watch a lot of new movies, definitely sticking with the classics and catching up on many I haven't seen yet. The Gorge was alright, but the second part (after they revealed most of the mystery) wasn't as fun to watch.

I haven't seen many movies this year but the ones I did enjoyed and remembered in no real order were:

No Other Choice
Bugonia
Avatar: Fire and Ash
Warfare (okay this movie was incredible)
The Long Walk (pretty sure i poo'ed poo'ed the trailer when it came out but this movie was unexpectedly incredible too)

2025 was a surprisingly great year for horror. Best films I saw this year are probably Sinners and Bring Her Back.

Honorable mentions outside of this go to The Surfer and the second act of One Battle After Another.

Weapons was my FOTY of 2025. I don't normally feel particularly strongly about one film in a year, but that one was excellent.

I didn't watch too many but enjoyed Sinners the most. Avatar was surprisingly good, F1 was a blast. One Battle After Another was great but perhaps a little overrated, Weapons even moreso.

I cant even remember what came out, didnt go to the cinema for anything.

Black bag? Was that this year?

Was the gorge this year? I enjoyed that for being different

For me it's between Eddington and Bring Her Back. Overall, it's felt like a fairly weak year for films. The 2026 slate looks much more appealing by comparison. Though, there are still a handful of 2025 releases I'm interested in seeing: The Testament of Ann Lee, Rental Family, Sentimental Value, Avatar 3, No Other Choice, to name a few.

I think I only watched F1 so it seems unfair to say that, plus I thought it was just okay and a few months on I pretty much have forgotten what happened.

For anyone that watched Bugonia, did you also watch Poor Things?

I'm wondering if it's worth a watch for someone who really did not enjoy Poor Things?
You should definitely check it out. It's really nothing like Poor Things. While I think the film it's based on is the stronger version overall, I'd absolutely recommend watching this as well. The story is wild and a lot of fun in its own right.

F1 and Companion are the only ones that I know I'll watch again.

Never felt the time when I was watching both of them. Always a good sign.

Best film I saw in 2025 was The Lord of the Rings trilogy. As always.

had not watched that many movies this year but of the ones I did watch I enjoyed most of them. off the top of my head,

Rental Family
Weapons
Sinners
F1
Eddington
Novocaine
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle
Zootopia 2
One Battle After Another

there were a few more but they're stuff like The Gorge, Warfare, The Accountant 2, Fantastic 4, Thunderbolts. movies that I think is ok but weaker than I would like.

overall, didn't feel like there was one movie that REALLY stands out that much for me.

I just realized I only saw 2. Thunderbolts and Demon Slayer.

Thunderbolts was fine and I saw demon slayer with my kid so she didn't have to see it alone as her friends don't like anime. I had no idea what was happening, animation was nice though.

Weapons and Avatar: Fire and Ash. The rest was so so.

Horrible year for movies and it seems like it won't get better anytime soon (if ever).

In no particular order:

Sinners
Fantastic Four
F1
Marty Supreme
Kpop Demon Hunters
Weapons
One battle after another
The long walk
Zootopia 2
The Naked Gun

For anyone that watched Bugonia, did you also watch Poor Things?

I'm wondering if it's worth a watch for someone who really did not enjoy Poor Things?

FWIW, I haven't seen Poor Things, and based on the description I don't think I'm going to bother.

Also FWIW x2: Bugonia is an adaptation/remake of the South Korean film Save the Green Planet!.

edit: looks like near near beat me to the punch by a few light years.

This might be the worst year for films as far back as I can remember. I am struggling to find films I really enjoyed, I have a few I think was ok and a lot I didn't care for.

Marty Supreme

For others, off the top of my head I'd say

One Battle After Another
Sinners
A Real Pain
Sentimental Value
Blue Moon
Wake Up Dead Man
Eddington
Train Dreams
Friendship

But I'm probably forgetting stuff and still have a bunch to watch.

Have not watched all of these.. I have watched the the "top" 3 though... and they are are SO bad so I think this list must be inverted (I would rate each one of the top 3 here 1/5)

I cannot imagine 22 moves are worse than Fantastic 4 in a single year, F1 is certainly WAY better for example

Watched Train Dreams yesterday and absolutely loved it.

Havent watched all movies released this year, but I doubt there are 5 movies better than it. Highly recommend it, tho it's not for everyone.

I think No Other Choice is my favorite tho.

It's Park Chan wook, man. He only makes masterpieces.
