Epic Games Store grew users by 173% over 6 years. Third-party game revenue grew 1.6%. They trained 295 million people to grab free games and leave.

The only time I was in Epic was for FFVII Remake cause I didn't know it was coming on Steam. And when I used to play Fortnite with my friends years ago. I uninstalled the whole thing after beating FFVII Remake and don't intend on ever downloading it again on both my old pc as well as my new current pc.

It might help if they seek feature parity with Steam.

Otherwise as consumers we have little incentive to go and spend money on their store when can get the same product with superior features elsewhere.
Worth noting that EGS counts every Epic account like Fortnite and Unreal Engine, so this stats is really skewed
How much would you say are Unreal Engine accounts?

I'd say the Fortnite ones still count because they are still gaming focused and would allow the holder to buy games there (if they wanted)

I think it will pay off for them. They're giving gamers the best deal in history. Their rewards program returns 5-20% back to you. They're paying creatives to make games and publishing them and they give devs almost 3x as much back with their percentage cut.

My order of shopping when I get Xbox Ultra Magnus is 1) Xbox Store, 2) Epic Store, 3) GOG, >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>4) Steam

You have to be an idiot to constantly prop up the company giving you less than anyone. You want companies to compete for your business and that only works for consumers when they respond to good things. If they are just zombies captured by habit they get taken for a ride.

Imagine making fun of a company giving you games all year long over and over, and that is a lifeline for indie devs as well who get paid.

Im so lazy to make an account on Epic Store that dont even grab any free games. They need to work on comunity feautures if they want to have any chance to compete with Steam. Moneyhatting 3rd party devs for exclusivity only makes me dislike they store more.

It's not all free game users, a big chunk of that is people installing EGS to play Fortnite. Which is exactly why the person providing these stats didn't include 1st party game revenue.

Wouldn't that be just as bad for game sales? The thrid party revenue still dropped on absolute terms since 2022. Even if all those accounts came to download and play fortnite it's not looking good for the store sales itself.

Yeah EGS is doing terribly and it's quite clear the proverbial "nobody" (meaning very few people lol) wants to pay for 3rd party content on EGS. Some have caved when timed exclusive exists, which is the only real non-Fortnite revenue EGS has ever generated.

I just take issue with the dumb title of that reddit post/this thread.

I installed this crap because they had a run of exclusives on some stuff I really wanted to play (Observation, Tetris Effect, Control?).

Picked up a handful of other games in their sales where they basically give you money for spending money, but when I decided I wanted Epic's store/spyware off my computer for good, it was unsurprisingly hard to get rid of. The thing burrows deep into Windows, it's very invasive and can't be uninstalled in any normal way.

Re-bought everything I still wanted to play elsewhere, and I'm glad to have purged my PC of the Epic store.

I've only bought Red Dead Redemption 2 and Alan Wake 2 on EGS. The former was cheaper, and the latter was exclusive. I have 224 games in that library, and have played around 10.

Borderlands 3, Jurassic World Evolution 2, Sifu, Guardians of the Galaxy, Death Stranding, Loop Hero, Control, and Just Cause 4 were all games I wouldn't have bought on Steam and had a lot of fun playing because Timmy wanted to share.

I don't know how they're still justifying the giveaways, but keep 'em coming!

It's definitely a big factor, but I'd also raise that it took until just this past year to have basic features like gifting games and pre-loading.

A unified way to even just text/group chat across their platform from their games to mobile and desktop only started late last year...and their Android app + desktop Epic Games Launcher to have the feature still isn't due until later this month. Their store is 7 YEARS OLD.

Epic still doesn't even have forums or per-game discussion features, so when people go to talk about/troubleshoot their own games...they do it on Steam. It's also not a budget thing either, GoG has a fraction of Epic's money, and had this for years.

I would rather eat raw dogshit then to download that garbage launcher.
So just use one of the open source alternative like: https://github.com/derrod/legendary

They've given out hundreds of great games for free. It's really dumb to not claim them. Many times I'll see a video where a indie or something gets brought up and looks cool, and I'll check PlayNite and see Epic already gave it to me. So I can check it out without needing to spend a dime.

Even if they gave away banger after banger, it'd change nothing, my library is gigantic already and have the account from like a year or so :pie_roffles:

I don't know why these missing features really are. When i use steam, I just open it and launch game. Don't really care about the rest of the features. I rather have cheaper games from 12% on egs than 30% and more "features".

I play the games.
Currently going through Hogwarts Legacy.
I have intalled
Control
The Stanley Parable
Both Fallout 1and 2
All 3 Bioshock games
All 3 Batman Arkham games
A plague tale Innocence
GTA 5
Death Stranding
Prey
The Callisto Protocol

I've played through The Outer Worlds 1
Close to the Sun
Door Paradox
Lifeless PLanet
Deliver Us Mars
Metro 2033 Redux
Shadow and Rise of the Tomb Raider

Little games like Freshly Frosted
Marvels Guardians of the Galaxy
Tiny Tina's Wonderlands and Dragon Keep

I just cued up Disco Elysium on my handheld PC
Have not played much of it yet.

Free games galore and people make a thread shitting on it?
Neogaf needs to get it's collective head out of it's collective ass.

The games aren't cheaper on epic games though, you will pay the same price.
That's up to devs. If egs got more popular know doubt the prices would adjust in highly competitive game industry and if not all devs would adjust prices at least more money would go to them. At least my hobby is centered around playing the actual games and not salivating around storefront. Also potentially there is some illegal price fixing pressure from valve which might explain the prices.

I'd settle on the mobile app just having a basic library of what you own. For now you have to remember and search to find anything to download it again.

Wouldn't such a basic feature be a day one thing?

I got Alan Wake 2 there since it was not on Steam, which I mostly use. No big deal, as it was not a game I would play on a handheld with Steam OS anyways.
On desktops I don"t care what app I use to start a game. It takes a few seconds and you're in. Never understood why this is a issue for some people. Having multiple store fronts is good for competition and for us consumers.

Guilty of logging in weekly, grabbing free shit, logging out. Have not played one minute of any of the games I have obtained free via this service.
