Epic Games Store grew users by 173% over 6 years. Third-party game revenue grew 1.6%. They trained 295 million people to grab free games and leave.

I crashed out and deleted my epic account completely. Fuck that company.
I crashed out at the beginning of their giveaway strategy, because fuck multiple launchers. Also, when, Tim shares his opinions on customer service, I feel a force of insufferably powerful magnitudes.

Yeah fuck these guys. The smear campaign they were running against steam was unbelievable. I have a problem with companies that wreak havoc on communities. .

I know this post seems funny but modern Epic has done a huge amount for the industry.

1. Their Unreal Engine 5 is the reason why half the games in the industry even exist today (Including this years expedition 33) and they're only expanding the engine as time goes on.
2. They have sued the biggest companies of the world (Apple and Google) all over the planet and have fought years and spent billions to get results scraping off their closes ecosystems step by step.
3. Fornite has introduced a HUGE amount of people to video games, some of whom have taken the plunge in AAA premium gaming as well.
4. Even the existence of stores like Epic, even when failing, keeps Valve from knowing how important it is to not make their services worse. They know there are vultures sitting around just waiting to pounce if it ever slips up (although pc users will just shift to piracy to be fair).

And, in many ways, we owe this to PUBG Battle royale Mode blowing up which led to Fornite and Epic getting billions but that's a conversation for another day.

And your proof to all the above is…?

That sounds about right. Epic succeeded at user acquisition, not at building a buying habit. Free games brought people in, but they didn't convert them into paying customers the way Steam did over time. Big numbers look good on paper, but that 1.6% revenue growth says most users are just there to claim and bounce. Same here, honestly. I've never actually bought a game on Epic. I only ever logged in to grab the free games and then I'd go back to Steam to actually play or buy anything.:messenger_grinning_sweat:

I am that one person that just nabs a free game and turn off my pc
You can do it with your phone.

I have never played a free game, but did buy Alan Wake 2 and will buy control 2 if it is Epic only. I don't give a fuck about which rich asshole is taking a cut as long as I can play the game.

I only purchased Alan Wake 2 from them. I've nabbed any free game that might interest me. I haven't played any of them. Fuck Epic.

Now that I have a Windows handheld coming in I am actively looking forward to buying a lot more GOG games. Epic as Steam DRM doesn't interest me.
