Star Trek: Starfleet Academy — Teaser Trailer

Made my wife watch Sho Kosugi's Pray for Death a few months ago. "You have to understand- - ninjas were EVERYWHERE!"

Now I have to watch this. I just got the 4K Ninja Trilogy from Kino.
For me the high point was Ninja 3: The Domination. WTF approved that script???

I love them all, even hokey Gymkata and stuff like The Octagon.

Teleported to the all you can eat buffet at the Circus Circus.

I've taken multiple groups of friends to Circus Circus so that they can experience the horror show it is. Last time we got lost in the bowels of that place and had to get a staff member to help us find the way out :D

Gonna be a sad day when that gets torn down.

For sure, as this is what she looked like during filming. Is that really her? Copilot can't even match her :P

And again, the costuming is BIZZARE. Lumpy fabric, wrinkles, and that weird step up cut on the bottom, WTF? I know with all these fatties and potato shaped actors on the cast they can't really do the onesies anymore but damn, at least use a good fabric!
Holy shit they dug up leonard nimoys corpse

I actually liked Discovery, Lower Decks, Picard and Strange New Worlds... Section 31 was a total misfire, tho.
Section 31 was one of the biggest piles of shit I've ever seen.

It was like the creators wanted Star Trek to go Warhammer 40,000 but failed horribly trying to emulate both.

How the fuck did this ever get greenlit?

Hopefully we get to see Mike and Rich Evans dissect it. I want to see their crushed spirits.

If they are excited to see that shit even after its teasers, then they deserved to be mocked.
Though RLM are a bunch of pussies when the subject has any kind of social pushing. I remember they initially being defensive of those new SW movies.

Lol, I think they are heavily ironic in that post. Jay famously has zero interest in the IP, not even the classic ones. It's usually Mike who comments on X, either pretending it's Rich Evans or Jay.

Yeah, they've been woke-adjacent at times, but I think they've totally stopped pretending that nu-Star Wars and nu-Star Trek are anything but dogshit. Overall I think they strike a pretty good balance with their apolitical style. They don't really push any side, probably by choice as they know how infected things can get.

Their Star Wars takes are horrible these days. For some reason they give it a pass on everything they completely crucify Star Trek for.

So out of Trek desperation I fired up The Orville. I stopped somewhere in season 3 a few years(?) back. Anyway, DAMN is it good comfort food. They have really toned down the goofiness in S3 and are just delivering good solid episodes. Maybe a bit on the nose at times but still fun. None of these actors are any good, probably the biggest failing of the show, but it's still the best Trek this century.

The tweet is sarcasm right? I know RLM* is a star trek mark ass mark...but no way he would see those cards and be like "oh FUCK yeah...FINALLY STAR TREK IS BACK!!!"
Haha yeah, it's the heaviest of sarcasm. Rich and Mike absolutely hate modern Trek, except for maybe the last season of Picard. Jay is as indifferent as one can be to the whole IP.

They really nailed it in this spoof:

I really liked the first two seasons, much thanks to the humor which separated it from TNG. S3 became too self-serious and dry, and as you said a bit on the nose. It became too much of a copy which only highlighted how superior TNG was to it. But yeah, it's the best Trek in a long, long time.

Wow, Paramount put the first episode of Starfleet Academy up on YouTube for free:

Makes me wonder just how low viewership must be to make them do that? 😂

Cool, I went ahead and preemptively clicked THUMBS DOWN. But I will watch it and rescind the thumbs down if somehow my supremely accurate horse senses have let me down which they haven't.

I see RLM has tried to salvage the day by doing a re:View of DS9 S1:

Good on them! Thumbs up!

Jay is the one that doesn't care or know anything about Star Trek so yes, it's a joke tweet...

As a lure to increase subs it's a smart move. Starz should have done it with House of Ashur to convince Spartacus fans that the show was indeed close to that one (of course it would need MASSIVE editing due to all the nudity, gore, and cursing). No one is gonna take a blind leap.

Hollywood is just one big laundering scheme.

I wish they would come do my laundry.

Edit: saw the previous was a repost, here's a review of it instead and it sounds awful

This is post TNG right, how can you be hungry in a world of replicators. Also 50% of the cast is hefty so how can they be hungry. And replicators gave you the food you wanted at the taste you wanted without the fat content.

Rich is where I am at with Deep Space Nine. He's trying his hardest to remember Deep Space 9 episodes, but was only half paying attention most of the time. Mike seems to be really into DS9, though.

The show always had an appeal with the hard core Trek fans. Even though as was seen as a Babylon 5 clone. There was a bit of a strange clashing between DS9 and Babylon 5 fan bases back in the day. Where the Babylon 5 fans would call it the superior show.

I generally don't hate Deep Space Nine, It was consistently better than Voyager. I think I was generally less interested in the slice of life aspect of Star Trek than I am in the single story situational plots of TGN. I do like Quark and the Odo dynamic. Pushing Worf onto DS9 was a pretty good idea. I found myself watching those seasons more than the early seasons.

This looks like a parody.
It's the whole "Simpsons is bad now because new writers only grew up on the Simpsons" argument. Rather than draw from established sci-fi writers and their own experiences, writers today are just skimming older Star Trek for set dressing and then basically making derivative episodes because they have nothing else to pull from.

I'd argue these "writers" are not actual writers. Just pick a few of best-selling sci-fi writers and you will get a great show. Pick tourists and you will get Disneyfied trash because that's the only thing they watch and "know" how to do.

DS9 is also the good old days, when the new series didn't literally betray everything Star Trek is. I know there was a split back then, that the first two seasons were rough and that Section 31 rubbed people the wrong way… but nothing on the scale of destruction we're seeing today with the franchise.

I really wish we could go back to that era: our debates seemed so mild compared to the Nutrek divide.

I actually watched the first episode of Academy, and I'm halfway through the second… what can I say, other than that beyond clearly not being the target audience, the dialogue is probably just as awful as in Discovery.

That's actually a key point mentioned in the RedLetterMedia video: the tone should be timeless, not stuffed with all the worst trendy slang and flashy "youth" gimmicks. It also has to be said that the Star Trek franchise was built with white male characters, young and old, and they seem completely absent (or side characters) from this new series.

On top of that, the central character, Caleb-whatever, is literally a walking Jar Jar Binks...honestly, nothing works. The list of problems is as long as your arm…

I really wish the franchise would go into hibernation, and that once this dumb era has passed, we could return to the core of what it's about; that, like the Kelvin timeline, everything done with Discovery, Picard, and Academy would be wiped from canon, and we could calmly pick things up again after the Dominion War with a proper tone.

I know, I can dream, but this last nail in the coffin just shows how sick Star Trek really is.

It's amazing how much of this garbage that was clearly greenlit and filmed during peak woke is still being released in a steady stream. I have to hope the torrent will slow eventually as better stuff enters the pipeline.

I watched it. It's slop. Insufferable teen drama with the basic modern audience archetypes.

There's no sign of the Star Trek promise in it. It just all feels completely off, expensively cheap.
