Arknights: Endfield |OT| A Story of One of The Last Originium-powered Multi-surface Vessels. The Year is ~1254. The Name of The Place is Tallos-II

Btw, I just noticed in the in‑game news tab that there's a daily check‑in web event, similar to the ones in hoyo games, where you get a small reward each day just for logging in.

Yeah I downloaded the app, it's literally just like the Hoyo app lol. I just hope it gets an update to send mobile notifications like Hoyo does, thar way I don't forget.

Eh, I don't think this one is for me. I actually really enjoy the combat, it's like a faster and more interactive Xenoblade combat system, but every character having only 1 skill and an ultimate is boring as fuck after the first handful of encounters. I feel like 2 active skills, a dodge counter, the ult, and the R1/team attack should have been the minimum if they actually wanted depth for the combat system. Maybe a charge attack instead of "hold button to do your standard combo" too.

The UI is great, everything moves from one screen to the next so smoothly. The character animations, even stuff like just running around and changing direction, are really well done. The whole game oozes quality and care put into it, which I can appreciate. Character models look great, very expressive. I like that your party will randomly find shit and pop up a little >_> icon to let you know there's something there. I also like that they pick up loot and stuff if you don't grab it immediately.

The environment is technically nice, but it's such a mess and too busy. Like they felt they needed to throw an overturned car or a bunch of ore sticking out of the ground every 5 feet. The industrial areas are littered with boxes and crates and it just feels like it's too much.

The excessive handholding and tutorials is another big problem for me. I know they're one-time, but damn, there's a lot. As expected, I hate the base building stuff. It especially annoys me that you have to place those energy towers and then run back to the last one and then run back again to the new tower just to activate it. I get it's trying to be "immersive" but it's just a waste of time for no benefit. It's not like you're physically carrying the power cable anyways, so why torture us with this stuff?

Enemy designs are really bland/dull so far, too. I've mostly been fighting the crab bulldogs and the human tube face enemies. They could have some more interesting/expressive enemies, but I do admit that this is early game still, so it probably improves later on.

It's cool that it exists, and I'm sure there are people that love the factory management stuff that will adore this game.

I'll probably finish out the login freebies and see which 6* standard character I get, but I'm probably not going to hang on very long past that.

*edit*

Forgot to mention that the writing has been shit, the classic Arknights technobabble word salad, and the VA work is very hit or miss. The Owl bro reminds me of the Happy Gilmore sassy voice that Adam Sandler uses (in English dub).

It feels like i have seen 50 ish tutorials today. And every few minutes, more are added. I don't like the enemy design either. They look really boring. I guess later on you'll get more options for the fights. If not, yeah, it would get boring pretty quickly.

I also thought the energy towers were poorly designed, but I've only done it once in the tutorial so far. But hmm, it's kind of fun actually.

I don't remember it being a thing in the beta but apparently there's blueprints that you can use that are created by the devs for auto placement of the base building stuff, to basically bypass that stuff and since I have zero incentive to build anything myself, I can't wait to use that feature.

I recommend powering through the tutorial (I think they streamlined a few things a bit more compared to CBT2). Early on, after the first few AIC (factory) tutorials, you'll unlock the option to craft additional relay towers. Once you do, you can electrify the entire first region (or at least the important areas) to access locations that were previously blocked off due to lacking power, and pick up some nice loot and XP along the way.

A bit further into the main story, after several more AIC tutorials, you'll unlock auto‑mining facilities. You can place them on specific ore nodes, electrify the area, and they'll automatically send all collected ore back to your main AIC, where you can process it into the materials you need.

There's a lot more stuff to it than that, but yeah, best to discover some of the stuff by yourself, lol.

What I also suggest is making sure that before you log off today, you gather all the rare mats scattered around the map. They're really important for ascending your characters and weapons, as well as unlocking talents and other upgrades. There's a 56h cooldown until they fully regrow (1 material per 14h), so you can only collect them once every two days or so.

Played it for about 6 hours or so.
There are way too many tutorials.
I think I made it 2 hours.

Eve for the gacha category, which I consider dog shit, this game is just visuals and nothing else. Worst onboarding for a player ever.

Probably the most comprehensive review I found of Endfield. I'm sorry but there are just too many small things that tick my nerves with this game for me to find it enjoyable in the long run. Fuck all the tutorials in this game. There are just too many.

Just did my second 10‑pull on the beginner banner and got another 6* operator, Ember, the same one I pulled in CBT2, lol. Honestly, I'm pretty happy with this start in Endfield when it comes to gacha luck.

I really liked this. Early i notice one of my girls was missing from the party, i looked around and she was standing next to a truck with the eyes emoji thing. I went close to her, and she was close to a chest i didnt noticed. I also dont pick any loot, and just let the party members pick it for me. Nice touch to make ur party feel usefull even outside combat.

You dont have to run back and forth. What i do is grab an energy cable and start moving to the location i want to place the next energy tower, the cable has a limit of 80 meters so when i see the cable is at 75 meters i open the menu with the buildings and place the new tower and connect the cable, the cable dosent go away while you placing the new tower or navigating the menu.

Caved and played the intro and a couple of hours..almost had me pulled in and then the f'n gacha character pull shit hit. Dammit I hate the industry right now…this could be a solid single player, full price game, but companies have to ruin it by making it a gambling sim. WTF.

I played this for a couple of hours this morning, and I think I'm good. Part of it is I just can't stand most of these these gacha game developers spend way more time on the mechanics of getting money out of you than the mechanics of making a good game, but most of it is just because it's just mediocre compared to what exists. It runs great, it looks great, it actually uses all the features on the Dualsense on PC, but the characters are like C tier compared to other games and aren't interesting looking, the gameplay is limited and simplistic, and frankly it just feels like a dozen other games that can't compete with the big boys and nothing stands out as worth putting time into, much less money.

Well, that's kinda it for today. I beat the first real boss, finished setting up the automation and got done with the mandatory blueprints tutorials, and I'm also done rolling on the beginner banner. Tomorrow I'm planning to focus more on exploration and some side missions, since so far I've mostly been mainlining the story just to get the factory set up for crafting gear and building up some valley stock. I also need to push my 'Adventure Rank' to 15 so I can progress further and unlock more systems (I'm at 13 right now).

It looks great and the combat feels way better than I expected, but as others have said, the excessive tutorials are a bit much. The story didn't grab me enough, so I think this one might not be for me.

I'm kind of liking it but has a lot of work needed imo. I'm coming from Wuwa and ZZZ so combat is def a step down from them but it's fine. The tutorials are KILLING me at the moment….. like to the point where I want to stop playing because of it.

After playing it some more, I can say I really enjoy this one and will be sticking with it for the long haul it seems.

It's clean and smooth as a butter, production values are really high and I like the overall vibe.

Put in a couple hours tonight. Definitely not sold yet. My first 6-star is Lifeng which also sucks pretty hard.

Kinda bummed they didn't even give a 10-pull freebie for the Limited Banner. The game seems to be doing well so maybe they'll give it as a thank you gift in the mailbox after the first week.

Overall first impressions: The game is really well made. Looks amazing on PS5. But so far I'm missing where the "fun" is, I guess? I'm still very early and in tutorial slog so I'm going to give it at least another 4-5 hours before making my final decision. Whether or not I pull Laevatain will probably also factor into my willingness to continue in search of the "click" moment.

I like the aesthetics a lot, but gacha really seems to stress me out. This is my first time being even slightly invested in a gacha game and I... don't like the idea of not being able to get all the characters.

I actually made the mistake of playing the game all the way until unlocking the last New Horizons banner and got ... Lifeng

So fuck me, I just wasted 2 days having fun and playing the game instead of just going straight to rerolling like I normally do

Guess I have to reroll a bit now, this is a shit account and I bricked it. Lesson learned. Never have fun with a new gacha, reroll first

IMO, if you get strong FOMO about having every character (especially the limited ones like Laevatain) then even if the game is really good, it might not be worth investing your time. The limited banners seem to be shorter than in hoyo games, and the pull income is a bit slow from what I've seen and from what other players who played more than me have said on reddit and twitter. You can get enough pull currency to guarantee the current limited character, but it takes a lot of grinding. So if you're prone to FOMO, you might feel pressured to swipe… and once you swipe the first time, it becomes a lot easier to swipe again, and again...

I got the twink too for my guaranteed 6* (at max pity on the starter banner), and was seriously upset/wanting to reroll, but it takes for-fucking-ever to get to even the first 10-roll, it just isn't worth it to me. Though, I'm still largely not sold on continuing the game to begin with.

Fortunately, I had a bit of luck smile upon me and I got Sutr (or whatever her current name is) on my 2nd limited banner 10-pull, so I am not having the back and forth of "should I reroll or not?" bouncing around in my head. She's insanely better than any other character I had in my roster.

Unrelated, but I like this new gacha trend where the default MC is actually usable and good in the game. Endmeister's def shred, insanely easy to trigger follow-up, and short animations (good for stunning enemy charge moves) makes him a mainstay in my party. I only wish the game wasn't heavily favoring mono-element team comps.

This game feels really slow to get enough premium currency for a 10-pull. Like even including launch freebies, everything is time/progress gated in the worst fucking ways. A single limited banner pull ticket per day stretched over a week feels like a punishment.

My reaction to this game is so mixed 12 hours in. The game is gorgeous, the combat feels surprisingly good, the premise of the story and characters is interesting and such.

Then on the other hand, the factory system being mandatory along with hours of boring tutorials is a drag, the music is boring, enemy AI just stands in the middle of the room making combat non-dynamic, no events the first week and the game is surprisingly stingy for a game that has to compete for attention with WW, ZZZ and Genshin. The factory reminds me of tv mode in ZZZ, a feature nobody asked for in an open world gacha, that takes up way too much time instead of exploring, combat and character building like the genre is known for.

The game feels like it has a bunch of potential depending on how they proceed from here but at the same time could have been so much more if they had just released a 3D, better version of the already excellent first game instead of yet another Genshin homage.

Free Ardelia
And x10 rolls (not that I got anything from them)

I target Laveatain
And will have frost party with Last Rite+Snowshone and fire party with Surtr+Ember

Looks like we're getting a 10‑pull for the limited banner as a gift for the successful launch.

That's a limited banner permit, so it'll work on every limited character. There's also a permit just for Laevatain's banner, but that's not it from the looks of it, which is good, as I can just save it.

In my first roll I got the "we have sephiroth at home guy" and the sheep girl.

I will continue with this team
I like the gameplay /battle mechanics so far.
Reminds be a bit of Scarlet Nexus lite, which I really liked

that's a good pull... and I mean both the character and Scarlet Nexus mention, it really is similar.

I haven't played many gatchas yet, but here it feels like you have to fight for every pull. I don't even want to imagine how bad it will be when it comes to the milking phase.

Yeah, you're right. I actually meant to say just "limited banner". Not sure why I said Laevatain, since there are also those special permits which are tied to the character featured on the limited banner. I'm gonna edit that part out.

Btw, looks like Endfield is playable on Bazzite OS. Apparently it runs really smoothly according to this JP bro.

As for the Steam Deck, it runs at around 50-60 FPS, but it does take a few extra steps to set up (there should be video guides on it up on YT).

Yeah or zzz or wuwa, but i dont think i have seen any gatchas there in the shop.
There was a Switch 1 trailer for Genshin years ago, before the game even released, but they never ended up launching a Switch 1 version. IMO, Nintendo should do everything in their power to bring Genshin to the Switch 2, considering how popular the game is in Japan and how well the Switch 2 is selling there.

That's interesting, but it must have failed due to weak hardware. Should be less of a problem with the Switch 2. At least for Genshin. But since Wuwa and Zzz don't run smoothly even on large consoles, that's probably less likely.

You have to keep in mind that Genshin was running on mobile devices with power similar to the Switch 1 when it launched, so a port would've definitely been doable if they'd used the lower‑spec mobile assets. That said, I'm honestly a bit surprised there's still no Switch 2 announcement for Genshin. Maybe Nintendo wants to save something big like that for a Direct. Who knows, tbh, but my Switch 2 would def get a lot more use if Genshin and HSR were available on the system.

Edit: Anyways, we're going off‑topic, so I'll just mention that Endfield seems a lot more optimized than WuWa and ZZZ so a Switch 2 version could potentially run really well. Hopefully they'll consider it in the future.

It must have been due to Nintendo relationship with 3rd party, which is notoriously bad. Originally it supposed to be cloud version for Switch. Mihoyo probably asked for support, got turned down and then bail out as they are not as much interested in Switch "whole package" of value (it's power close to mobiles and mobiles already under Mihoyo wing)
And it'll be hard for ZZZ or WuWa as those versions are PS5 only

Switch/Switch2 is a ~10% of mobiles market share in Japan, it's a market but it's not that big
Funny fact that Genshin by itself is bigger than the whole Japanese console market.

So that later there would be no questions that I didn't give the game a chance or that it didn't open up.

I wish everyone a pleasant game, my acquaintance with this product is complete.

Well, holy shit! I lost the 50/50 on the limited banner on my first 10‑pull and ended up getting one of the upcoming limited characters instead (Yvonne), since they're part of the loss pool!

That's actually insane that they're already obtainable lol. Congrats man, best loss ever.

I look forward to your social media share of some JP/CN dude with a maxed out constellation 5 Yvonne (or whatever Endfield calls the dupes).

Is there a list of which characters are in the limited pool?

Thanks, man! Yvonne was the next character I wanted to pull for after Laevatain, so I was pleasantly surprised to see her pop up on the screen, lol.

I've seen several JP bros with max dupes on Laevatain, but none for Yvonne so far. I'll definitely post them if I spot any.

Yep, it's Gilberta and Yvonne. The rest are standard units: Ember, Lifeng, Ardelia, Last Rite, and that Sephiro looking dude. So if you lose the 50/50 on the banner, there's roughly a 30% chance to get either Gilberta or Yvonne. Looks like I was really lucky to pull her.

Speaking of Gilberta, she seems pretty cool too as her sword lets her glide over water.

Edit: I got curious and looked it up. Yvonne's rate‑up banner starts in a month from now, lol.

Edit 2: I saw yesterday that you mentioned pulling Laevatain on your second 10‑pull on her banner so congrats to you as well!

Your luck in this game is insane. Even when you loose you win.
Yeah, for real! Maybe someone from Hypergryph saw me gassing up the game before release and secretly flagged my account with better odds for 6* operators, lol.

Jokes aside, this is definitely the best start I've ever had in a gacha. I'll almost certainly get Laevatain through grinding, so the only real question mark left is Last Rite.

And speaking of Yvonne, she's actually pretty fun to play.
