A 1:1 FF7 Remake would have been legendary!

Just thinking about what could have been. If they had done a faithful 1:1 Remake in one 80h game.
Glorious! Would be in my TOP3 games of all time.
But no... Of course it would have been too good to be true.
They rather decided to do some timetravel multiverse ghostwhisper Sequel with 3 different games. Thank you Square Enix.
The chances of getting another 1:1 remake now are almost zero.

Would you buy a FF7 Remake in multiple parts?

who is that whore on the left and why do you compare that to the goddess that is on the right

I got remake intergrade yesterday to play on steam deck. I've played OG on Vita about 10 years ago.

I'm probably just having a fundamental misunderstanding about how combat works but I currently hate the gameplay. The setting reimagined is extremely well done. About to just replay the OG. Also getting access at random times to your inventory items while in combat is so dumb.

Maybe SE is testing the waters with the DQ7 reimagined game, maybe they will use similar style to remake games like FF7 and FF9 in the future, these games didn't need the AAA Cinematic remake to begin with

What the fuck is the point of a 1:1 remake
It depends what people mean by that. It's also straddling the line between remake and remaster.

Clearly the concept makes no sense if we are talking an exact copy, but something like Links Awakening is a good case for why rebuilding a game with modern tech with the same content is a good way to bring in new players. I think it's reasonable to call that a 1:1 remake. But when you are talking FFVII, a lot of the gameplay is rather dated. It was great at the time, but the exploration really doesn't translate well to something more modern and many of the minigames could use a change.

I think it come down to 2D games can get 1:1 remakes and 3D games from PS2 on probably could get 1:1 remake depending on the game, but really early, groundbreaking 3D games need some modernization to make them more palatable to more gamers.

ff7 is god awful.,. just a shit tier videogame

square obviously knows it, which is why they redesigned the whole game to cash in on the retarded levels of nastalgia for this title

a modern remake of the first game would be epic

Chibi on field, HD textures, upscaled backgrounds with the PS1 sound quality. It was the best FFVII experience, better than Remake/Rebirth.
Yeah. It's really good. Remake/Rebirth doesn't feel like the OG game. Good for what it is, but whenever I want to play FF7, I just pop in the PC version.

I'll die on this hill that remakes should always be 1:1 , only with latest graphics and small QoL upgrades if needed, everything else the same, especially music

As someone who didn't like the original all that much all I really wanted was for the game to not be a total cakewalk with some properly balanced bosses and limit breaks and for it to not be so short. Instead we got stuck with this godawful mess of a trilogy.

stranger of paradise is the closest thing we'll get to a remake of ff1

I think the word you're looking for is REMASTER not remake.
nope, remakes, like shadow of the colossus (the most faithful 1:1 remake, same gameplay, same music, better graphics and performance, sure they changed wander design a bit but thats it). Demon's souls remake, yes they took too many liberties with the art and designs and completely modified the ost, the gameplay is intact at least. it would have been so much better with the original ost and atmosphere

It's funny because when remake came out there were people on here adamant it was amazing. Seem to have gone quiet now it's multi platform 🤔

I'm pretty happy with what we got. I don't see it overtaking the original. I'll always have the original. To me it's a companion piece. It's not just one game. It's three games where I'll get to revisit FF7's world and characters three times. On top of that I really love the combat. It's some of my favorite in the entire franchise. I really enjoy the camaraderie of the party members, the music, all the side content, most of the mini games are really fun (especially Queen's Gambit), and I think it's done a mostly good job recreating some of the original's moments. For the most part.

That said yeah, when veer's off into new additions to the story, the writing gets pretty trash. They completely botched Aerith's death. The final hour of Rebirth is really terrible. They fucked up Red XIII's voice and made him annoying. The mini games are great, except for the ones you're forced to play during a he story, like Cait Sith's box game. But at the end of the day, I'm really glad we have these games. Rebirth felt like the first true modern FF game, that gives us the fun party, the epic journey, and an uncompromising world map.

The game gets such an unnecessary amount of hate. If you did nothing but read the discourse surrounding Rebirth, and nothing else, you would NEVER think that it has a 92 on Metacritic and a high user score too.

I've been thinking about taking a chance on them. I think if they get a proper cartridge release and not a key card, I'll pull the trigger.

what makes it frustrating is that is wouldve been so easy to make the Remake that much better by sticking closer to the original storyline and atmosphere.

They couldve saved loads of time not having to think about whisps, not changing the shinra building scene and dozens of other places.

Missed opportunity.

Demon's isn't 1:1. As you point out, hence its more than a remaster.

I do think its funny though that in both cases you mention purists have incessantly complained about what changes were made.

Its a no-win situation really. Damned if you do, damned if you don't because especially if the original was a special experience for you the player, you're chasing the pink dragon of hopium thinking that anything could replicate the specific circumstances and mindset that made it the big deal it was in the past.

You cannot recreate your youth. Period.

Its a hard lesson to learn that there is no way back in life, but trust me, you will understand eventually.

i know its a no-win situation, you cant please everyone, but the design changes on wander didnt bother me, but playing sotc now is the same experience as it was back then.

demon's if it had the original ost (music is a major factor on nostalgia) would be so much better to the original fans, and the folk experiecing it for the first wouldnt know the difference so i really dont get why they need to remake ost's

also i didnt played these in my youth, i simply prefer to have the experience intact as it was intended, if devs want to make something wildly different just make a new game

if devs want to make something wildly different just make a new game

That's what a remake is supposed to be.

Its a different take on a previously published story or idea.

A remaster is an improved version of an old thing, materially the same but the presentation enhanced to modern standards.

The only reason with games the above gets muddied is how much, if any, of the original code remains in place as opposed to being replaced by new code/logic that does more or less the same function.

I don't hate that they tried something different (though calling it Remake is misleading). It's quite brave imo. That said, if the new narrative elements do not come together into anything worthwhile -which I now fear they will not- the backlash is going to be biblical.

It's worth looking up how pressure and stagger work. I don't think the game explains it well and it's pretty important.

FFVII lost its charm when SE decided it had to look realistic and boring. The original is superior to the remake in every way, even visually.

Nah, i like this version. Its more well explaining the story of the original, while also keeping the OG as not only canon, but everything else. The movie, Crisis core and Dirge are not erased and you need to play them to call yourself a true FF7 fan and that is hilarious

That gal is quite distracting while playing through the game, to be sure.

..and I think it's done a mostly good job recreating some of the original's moments. For the most part.
Agree.

They absolutely succeeded in recreating the trail of blood in the Shinra Building, leading to an impaled president. Truly faithful.

And Sephiroth's buildup from the original? First hearing his name, then his deeds, then seeing the aftermath of his actions, finally seeing him in the past, only to always be a step behind in the present? They clearly did a great job with him this time—maybe they even surpassed the original.

After all, more Sephiroth automatically means better storytelling, right?
Being in a party with Sephiroth while he effortlessly slaughtered massive dragons that dealt 0 damage to him was so lame. It's much better seeing him struggle against frogs and barely outperform Cloud. Making him vulnerable really elevates his mystique.

And the game giving players quiet moments to breathe after loss? Obviously dated. TikTok has taught us that scenes like Dyne's or Nanaki's father can't stand on their own. The developers knew they had to inject action immediately, no matter the emotional context.

A true masterclass in modern storytelling.

What list of mods do you recommend for the best experience?
That's the cool part. Completely subjective, right. Install the 7th Heaven mod manager and then, through that, install the ones that matches the look/feel you're going for.

HD backgrounds for everything is a must, I like the updated HD models for characters and enemies. Not a fan of of the sound effect or music update mods

There's a few UI updates as well that give the game a more updated vibe(think FF9) than the blue boxes in the OG game.

It is legendary. We got Remake, which was pretty good; and Rebirth, which is one of the GOAT of gaming. Rebirth is so good I'm rather concerned that it is likely I'm going to be a bit disappointed with part 3 because how can they possibly top Rebirth?

Thank you Square Enix indeed.

Personally I find 1:1 remakes kinda boring, just play the original.
I have my issues with the 7 Remake games but overall I've enjoyed the expanded levels, minigames and overall presentation, and I find the combat way more fun than the original. FF7 IMO doesn't have a particularly great turn based combat system and random encounters were a shitty dated mechanic even back in 97.

My only big issue with the 7 Remake games is the complete Nomura-ification of the story. These games without the cringe dialogue and shitty convoluted multiverse crap would be so much better. Rebirth took one of the most iconic moments in gaming and turned into some barely coherent B tier anime crap.

It's not a remake though , it's a continuation of the FF7 compilation and that's what I like about it . It adds the story beats and characters introduced in CC, AC, DoC and other bits of FF7 media sprinkled keeping them relevant and cohesive though out it all . Og FF7 is still canon in this universe and rewards players who have played it and it's great to have expanded lore and characters like Yuffie, Vincent and even the GI truly get integrated into the story.

The original was great but the story alone isn't why I was a fan , the Materia system which was nicely adapted into action combat , the woah factor when you left Midgar into a sprawling open world, the bosses and exploration , the minigames ( yes I said it ) even though people want to crap on Rebirth for it , the music and audio design which the new games kept the essance of and making me feel like a kid again in my 40s.
.
I beat the hell out of the original multiple times , getting all characters to 99, all maxed materia , every nook and cranny explored just trying to stay in the world as long as possible and Rebirth gave me like 250 hours and still want more and will get with part 3 , it did what I wanted it to do . If it was a 1:1 I would've just brushed it off like most other remakes and remaster of games I've played before because been there/done that .

Let's not forget the biggest thing of all ...... we all tried to Revive Aerith with all the rumors back in the day and it was something well all hoped for and hurt us deeply when we couldn't , going into part 3 ..... Maybe this time we can

My opinion is that I like both Tifa designs. I will not apologize for that.

As for the FF7 remake, let them finish and we'll see if it was really worth the wait.

The funniest thing about these threads is that you can always tell who has not played Remake and Rebirth and who hasn't based on what they say.

And those posters still don't know why.

Square incidentally made a game that shows the exact issue with the idea of just reading headlines.
