Highguard |OT| Mount up and raid with me (Is this the Apex of hero shooters?)

not looking good

Holy fuck that plummeted FAST!

I'm away all week so won't be playing but doesn't sound like im missing much.
Definitely not. It's a low resolution (on console at least), confusing Overwatch where you teamfight 3 enemies and go "WTF am I supposed to be doing"? Nothing feels satisfying.

It's certainly going to be more fun once you understand everything but I'm not putting in the time.

This might end up being fun and all, but why can't someone make a good 6 vs 6 shooter anymore, and why don't developers realize that the fewer players on your team, the worse it is for the casual players you need to reach to be a successful title?

So after watching a bunch matches it's not the worst set of ideas on paper but in execution it feels very limp. Like the base building and gear grabbing don't feel all that impactful and the really lame ultimate abilitiies don't help matters. The fantasy mixed with guns is also really lazily executed. I think it would work much better if it was Masters of the Universe with kinds of sci fi tech and magic flying around with a bunch cool high tech vehicles and badass giant creatures in the mix. As an observer it just doesn't feel like the game has any oomph or personality.

Game is ass

Back to Titanfall 2

I'd rather play Apex than this..

Dumbass horses and shit 😂 fuck off man

I tried to like it they got Kuben Blisk but nah

Oh nvm, you HAVE to finish the tutorial in order to play the main game. Not going to bother with that then lol. Shit was WAY too long.

21% positive reviews on Steam with over 2,000 reviews. It couldn't even break 100k as a free-to-play game with gaming's biggest hype man shilling for it. It's steadily dropping. Cohh just said he'll never take a game recommendation from Geoff again.

XboxEra says it's one of the best MP games out there, already among the best this year so far and maybe even beyond.

I mean, it's his opinion but I really doubt that. I often don't agree with their reviews either.

Game missing a ton of options on pc aswell and shit like no native ps controller support or buttons in 2026 is nuts

I have to test the PC version later. but on console it's absolute trash so far.

no FOV settings, narrow FOV, it looks legit sub 1080p, the upscaling artifacts are so bad it looks like it runs at 30fps with framegen to 60fps, it has input lag that's hard on the edge of being ok, the linear reaction curve is broken (at least on PS5), and aiming/shooting feels really bad due to a combination of all the things above.

absolutely atrocious way to launch a competitive shooter on console in 2026... especially when they market it with "by the makers of Apex Legends and Titanfall", both of which wipe the floor in every regard with this game in terms of game feel so far.

I've been trying to just play the game for 20 minutes now. I hit play to enter training, get a loading screen and sent right back to the main menu every single freaking time.

How do you get suckered into trying a FTP game you dumbass?

It's free bellend, if its good then great, if its shit then nothing lost except and hour of gaming time.
Referring to time, the one thing we as humans should cherish and that limited on this mortal coil as "gaming time" is all I needed to know.

This is proof you can't just shadow drop a game anymore

Server tests, feedback, etc are critical.

People still read/watch 9.8 amazing XboxEra?
This guys are clowns.

I just played 2 matches and I liked.

I just wish that the looting phase was bigger and it had some enemies guarding the loot for some pve.

The raiding phase (both defending and attacking) is pretty fun.

Also, the characters and guns are fun to play with.

Maybe eventually it will have different modes with more mechanics and more players (a 10x10 mode could be cool).

Thats why Marathon will succeed.

I'm still not sold on Marathon just yet, but I will agree that Bungie did themselves a huge favor doing multiple rounds of testing, getting feedback, and then being given the time they needed to implement changes. This has had an obvious impact on the game's public perception. Highguard needed that. It needed a lot of changes.

Time = money 😎
Fair enough, but most people legit seem to just be jumping on to play one game and then call it good.

Which definitely is a silly waste of time as MP games almost never click right away when you are a noob.

Actually, I have to commend them for trying to bring back old-school shooters such as Wolfenstein: ET, Unreal Tournament 2004, Tribes, etc

But the execution is just so sorely lacking. 3v3? No roaming mobs for PVE shenanigans? Insane.

Finished the tutorial and now getting an online error.

-A mining mini-game is crummy in the first place, but timing it to an L3 press is an even worse decision.
-The horses don't feel great to control.
-Why are the destructible walls so ugly?
-It would have been neater to have to capture, escort, defend the siege weapon than rather having a siege key which basically boils down to capture the neutral flag before play Counter Strike bomb defend/defusal.
-3v3 seems like a small player count for the types of objectives being emphasized.
-Throwing a ton of systems from other multiplayer games (resource collection, shops, weapon/armor tiers, player classes, etc.) just feels a little messy.

I don't understand how gamers nowadays have such short attention spans and are so quickly willing to write off games like this one. If you look at a lot of the negative steam reviews, some of those people played it for less than half a hour. Thats just being completely unreasonable, you can't judge a relatively complex multiplayer game in such a short amount of time.

To be fair, Geoff poked the bear by effectively telling people who didn't like what they saw that they're wrong and that he was looking forward to them realizing that.
I just went through his Twitter posts/replies... and don't see him saying anything like that?

But again, who cares? lol

Why the hell did they think 3v3 with pretty large maps was a good idea?

I think, as clarky clarky kind of touched on, that they just didn't have enough critical pushback during the development process to conclude that it was a bad idea. Now, that's no excuse for them even trying that in the first place. I think most people here, with no game dev experience, would immediately recognize that as a problem. But they just didn't have enough outside feedback telling them they're being stupid. This game needed more time and legit testing.
