Highguard Debuts on Steam with a peak CCU of 97k and 21% positive reviews

This game has to be some kind of work from his wife and her boyfriend or some ugly bitch he simps for. It has to.
He just got hefty sum for making it final VGA trailers so has to pretend game wasnt total bust and he did it to promote amazing game instead of simply love for money xD

If that steam review trend continues we're looking at a month, tops, before this goes into the 3 digits

God, some people are always looking for the negative side. One month, tops! Really .... ? :messenger_neutral:

I'm much more positive minded. I think the CCU could go into 3 digits in two weeks, tops!

'We don't need [player counts] to be super huge in order to be successful': Highguard devs respond to posters declaring it dead on arrival

Its a good thing the devs aren't about high player counts, must be super thrilled over half the player base have already moved on

The crash and burn on this one is truly incredible.
Played a round on my PS5 it was alright but still very strange. It wont last it has too much friction.

Reads like the game wasn't good enough to overcome the people looking for the next Concord to dunk on. It might find some fans, but losing 50% players in four hours for a F2P that peaks at sub-100k is a death sentence. Shut down before June, I'd wager.

I started the tutorial, there's a progress bar at the top which was barely progressing, audio was bugged as well... I quit the tutorial because fuck that. Turns out you can't play the main game until you've completed the tutorial?

Uninstalled.

Also performance was ASS.
Arc Raiders required a tutorial also.

Not to roll over a dead horse with a steamroller, but can anyone post a run-down of the game's woke/progressive features? Cause I'm skimming through the promo material and off the top of my head there's just the poster character who looks a bit gay coded. I'm trying to decide how stoked I should be about it bombing like, but even if it's not, the fact that it's more f2p p2w slop that installs crapware on your machine seems enough reason to me...
Found one!

3v3?!?!?!!

In current day and age, we should be getting 4-players at a minimum. Tho, I would love to see 5 or 6 player regular co-op play on games. (Division and Destiny has 6 players, but only for raids)

Only 3-player co-op on Arc Raiders is super lame...

It's not that you're wrong, BUT, I only have two friends so this era of 3-player co-op is perfect

Arc Raiders doesn't have team matchmaking so you're required to have 3 or 2 friends. There's also like 30 players in a lobby so the comparison to Highguard makes no sense. Highguard apparently has team matchmaking, so 3v3 and only 6 players total on a big map is lame.

I think everyone just got home from work and they're cooking dinner now. But after they're done eating then they will sign on and play Highguard, just wait.

Who the hell are these devs and how did they think they could release in this state into arguably the most saturated market space in gaming right now

To me, it feels like this could be another case of toxic positivity. Similar to what happened with Concord. The devs just didn't get exposed to criticism on design choices. Or they did but doubled down on their choices. Both could be true. Because, just like Concord, there are design decisions made for Highguard that just don't make any sense if you're serious about creating a successful game in this space.

Honest thoughts after 2 matches (I know not enough, need to play more, but this is quick impressions and I did win both of them)

I give huge credit and balls to the devs for trying out something new/unique an FPS game. It has a lot interesting ideas for a PvP Competitive shooter. A mix of mount traversal, loot, different types of weapons, hero abilities and so on. The real unfortunate part is how their team has decided to handle the marketing and launch of this game. It would have been a lot better if it was just a shadow drop at the end of Game Awards, or if it was not even announced at all and then just released today on its own with the press events leading up to launch like they just did.

The engine to me felt buttery smooth. I did not have any kind of hiccups but I am running on a 4090 RTX which is a 24GB VRAM card and 64GB GDRR5 ram. I did not play much with the settings, but the time I did play the game I did not run into any weird graphical issues or bad slow-downs or anything else on the technical end of things.

I still need to get used to the heroes, I keep using mostly guns instead of hero abilities, that's one thing I need to get better at. Fighting in the base to defend/take over the core is quite fun imo. The bad thing right now is that the game does not feel good at 3v3, the map size is too big for that and when you out looking for loot there is no much going on which is kind of an issue. You don't feel threatened or scared of the enemy because the map is so big and everyone is so spread out.

I like that they give you a shop as another way to buy items/upgrades and I also really like the mechanic where you collect resources with your axe, kind of gave me a throw back to some other older titles like Savage: Battle for Newerth in the early 2000s (I miss that game)

I don't know man, I feel bad for the devs, they are getting shat on because of someone else's incompetence but granted their way of handling the marketing of this game wasn't the best either. Long story short, there are too many children on the internet that just like to bash everything they do not like and hate on people for no real reason which I find kind of dumb and rather childish. I do believe this game has potential, but with Arc Raiders out there and Marathon on the horizon I fear that this game might not survive to see it's true potential. They just need to fix the "too big of a map" issue and tighten somethings and maybe optimize a bit more for lower end machines and I think they'd be in great shape. Gonna play some more matches later tonight maybe or tomorrow, busy week for me.

I was watching some of the gameplay on twitch. Yeah it is kinda rough. I am sure many of those streamers are sponsored and just chasing bounties to get paid more but .... I guess once the initial boost goes away the game is gonna die. 3v3 is already a hard sell. The flow of the game is wonky. I do actually find the concept to be interesting. Just having some issues with the execution of it all.
