Noice Thats Nice GIF

I'm still not sold on this new open world direction and the samurai/ninja button, but I'll at least get to try it out. Nioh 2 is one of my top games of all time, so we'll see how this one feels.

Even if this one isn't good this makes me excited bc I'm playing nioh 1 rn and can't wait for Nioh 2

Yeah, it's copy pasted Nioh 2 but in a bigger map and some small extra bits here and there. Considering their garbage engine, I'm not sure how well it will handle things in a big map. Dont think this will sway you if you didnt like the loot style, but I'm not a big fan of it either. Combat is snappy and satisfying af tho.
I'm always down to try new souls likes.

Not everyone can make a certified banger like lies of p on the first try.

To be fair though team ninja has let me down more than any developer I used to adore. I actually enjoyed wo kong the most I think of their games since itagaki left.

Their engine is indeed doo doo.

Wo Long is maybe the worst running game Ive ever experienced. No idea if they ever fixed it.
I played it after the latest update, and it was pretty rough for me too. At first, I had no issues, but eventually it started freezing for a couple of milliseconds. I tried everything to fix it, but no luck.

I just read some reviews on Steam, and it seems like the issues are very hardware dependent. There are plenty of people reporting no problems at all. One even mentioned running it on a 1070 Ti, lol.

It's the same with Pillars of Eternity 2. I'm dying to play it, but it's such a technical mess.

Here's the bad news: If you can't handle the loot grind, you probably won't like Nioh 3. Because with Samurai and Ninja modes having independent gearing you now have twice as much to maintain.

I'm sure it'll use some variation of the automation system used in Stanger Of Paradise, but here's the issue: That'll only get you though the easy stuff, ng, maybe some of ng+. By the end, you'll need to know how to build sets manually or you will get smashed because the difference between a collection of nice gear and a fully planned build, tailored to your particular style is going to be night and day!

last demo had lots of traversal stutter on PS5 pro, same with Rise of the Ronin anyway. Expect this one is the same, the engine was probably never intended for open world, wild hearts clearly shows but it has gotten better over time.

NG4 ran fine for me but different engine and Platinum heavily involved.

Wo long has improved a lot after they added shader precompilation step and DLSS, the core issue with their engine is it doesn't like anything that is not locked 60 or 120fps and traversal stutter. I guess the talks of the engine was taken from their fighting game, probably DOA5 might be true that is why the combat feels very snappy than a lot of action games, even NG4. Wo long is actually pretty solid now as long as that can hit hit a locked 60fps. I capped my game to 60fps since it can never reach 120fps, and turn on smooth motion. Now the game rocks at a rock solid 120fps and 60fps in cut scenes as a side effect of smooth motion doubling frame rate across the board.

The gameplay is a much bigger diversion than Nioh 1 was to Nioh 2. You can play the game very differently in 3

They're releasing a demo? Don't they know there's an internet hate mob and people will just play it for less than an hour and not have a valid opinion?!?!?

This is Team Ninja's best PC port by far after playing for like 1 hour. There are an absolute shit ton of options. They even let you change the frame rate on the cutscenes. Weirdly it defaults to 65% of 4k in the DLSS settings but it looks fine. I changed it and it looked the same so I just went back. I'm actually flabbergasted at the amount of options here. Why the fuck would I want to invert horizontal controls in the menus. Whatever, maybe it made somebody happy.

Any idea on how long is the demo supposed to be? I did like Nioh 2 so maybe it's worth giving this a whirl if it's a decent chunk of gameplay to make an evaluation.

No idea, but going by the Nioh 1 and 2 demos probably pretty long and ending with a boss who is hard af. There's also an in game reward if you beat it before 2/15.

Body Type 1 and Body Type 2 strike again.

At least, the character creator is good and one of the few games where you can make a good-looking black character, despite them not fitting the setting at all lol.

Calico cats that roll around like beach balls are featured heavily in this setting. Not sure how historically accurate any of this is.

Not very accurate. They do mention Tokugawa Ieyasu though, so it has some basis in reality.

Also, I thought the preset chick had a strong jaw, but I didn't realize how strong it was until I made it normal lmao.

Not running great for me, 9800x3d and 5070ti. It's around 90-100 but keeps fluctuating and seems really... un-smooth. Maybe there's a setting or something.

Edit: Changed global illumination to very high and seems to suddenly become smooth lol.

There is a weird stutter with cutscenes being rendered in realtime sometimes but after applying a mod and turning off the volumetric effects Wo Long runs smooth as butter otherwise.

Holy shit, this is good. The combat is even better than in 2. The style change with a burst counter is dope, and I like quickly switching between shinobi and samurai.

This looks like a banger so far.

Sure hope this demo looks and runs a hell of a lot better than that first demo because despite playing it on the Pro, I thought it looked pretty awful and the framerate wasn't even smooth. They want $70 for this game. For that price it should at least look much better than Nioh 2 which was made on a prior hardware generation...

I've lost my tolerance for AAA games where the effort level and budget is so low this generation. Tired of spending $70 for these types of games where the graphical bugs and issues never end up even getting fixed.

Yeah. For these games to feel smooth, you have to make sure that you're always over the selected framerate lock. If you're set to 60, make sure you're always over 60 and it will feel smooth. 120fps feels really nice and smooth.

The game is insanely demanding for the visuals on display. At 3440x1440 and max settings and DLAA, I can dip to the low 70s on a 4090. Most often, I average 80-100fps, but you'd expect this to be a locked 120.

RTGI would also do wonders for the lighting.

Thnx for the suggestion.

But this game is officially in my "never touch again" folder. An hour of troubleshooting with zero results will do that.

Normally I would devour these types of games but enough is enough

Ok, anyone know if you can mix genders? Like a male samurai and a female ninja(kind of like that other open world Nioh game)? I thought I did that but then I loaded into the game and I was a female for both, and the ninja was the generic base model.

Tried it and uninstalled after the first boss and running around in the open area.
Didn't make a good impression on me.
Combat is Ni Oh. The stance switching feels more like a nuisance than a cool mechanic.
It's still a collectathon, I couldn't really care less about browsing my inventory for 3% extra whatever.
It still has 100 characters I will never care about.
Right off the bat re-using a lot of the same enemies, which is fine, but they all blend together at some point.
The open area felt boring to traverse, a big open field that looks samey.

I dunno, I enjoyed Wo Long a lot more, maybe because it's closer to character action and no annoying stamina bar. I think I just have souls exhaustion syndrome, or SES.
Also after playing Ninja Gaiden 4 and going back to MG: Rising, I don't think these games can hold my attention anymore.
Manage inventory, manage stamina bar, large upgrade trees and customization, 100 characters to keep track of, tens of different systems to learn.
Just let me slash up some dudes, man.

No. It's the same character.

Played until the boss and gave up after 5 tries then uninstalled. I was impressed with the performance and it had ultrawide screen support out of the box with no black bars except for pre-rendered videos. There were a ton of options that were mentioned before so with some tinkering it should run on most systems.

This your first Nioh game? Don't play it like Souls games if it is. Block and focus on depleting the stamina bar to then get critical attack. Don't forget, enemies in this game don't have unlimited stamina and can't just endlessly attack without tiring out. Use this to your advantage.

He is pretty challenging for a first boss though. Nothing like a Taurus Demon or even Cleric Beast lol.

How is perf on pc? Do we have a comparison with PS5 for pacing issues? (This and crimson desert are the 2 game I could buy a ps5pro if performance is way better on consoles)

It's very demanding for what it offers graphically, but no frame pacing issues or stutters.

It's great for me on PC. Most things maxed and a locked 60fps. I could go higher but I like my pc to remain quiet lol. i9 and a 4070ti.

Thanks, as soon as I get back from work I'm gonna see how it performs on my pc, their engine it's quite bad optimization side, but at least I can brute force it... The only think that I really dislike is having ps players and pc players segregated with no cross play... That is beyond stupid for a game that is already a niche of a niche genre

honestly, they better give us a real reforge system for accessory in this game like how they did for weapon and armor for other game, we now need to find 4 BiS accs to fit our build, i can't image how long it will take if they just copy paste that half bake reforge system from nioh 1 and 2 over

I quite like it.

Is it a big jump from Nioh2? No, it's not. Is it fun? yes.. combat is buttery smooth so I think they did a good job

however, I am not entirely sure I will pick it up at launch. I have a feeling the full game is just more of the same, a little more polished which is great but I'm not paying full launch price for that.
