Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

No it isn`t? These are the Black Desert Online dev`s.

I don´t see that "phenomenal" you are talking about, here. All I see here (and in the gameplay material released a bit earlier) are good/ very good, but not exactly amazing models and geometry, a lot of lod pop in and all the classic lighting and draw distance issues.
Plus in this latest trailer everything is massively oversharpened....
I see scale, a lot of it, but nothing that would make this impressive on a technological level.
Ok, second game ever, still very impressive. they made their own engine. not relying on UE5. i respect that more.
the amount of different things you can do in this game is pretty damn impressive. and for the scale of it, its very impressive - it may not be the most polished thing ever but I can forgive that due to its scale and ambition.

What`s the point of creating your own engine if it`s either missing or at least not able to effectively run the most impactful current gen features?
GymWolf GymWolf already mentioned that it is apparent at first glance that we do not have a virtualized geometry system here. Probably no competent RTGI, either, from the looks of it. Ubisoft`s Anvil deserves much more praise in that regard.

we`ll see. Those are Laurels based on marketing promises so far.

IGN shared campaign gameplay a month ago. It looks nothing like the reveal trailer:

Ok i have to admit some scenes gets better the more you go forward with the trailer, still not on fable levels but better than the first couple of minutes.

Believe me dude, i want this game to look incredible as much as you, there was no malice in my previous post.

Yeah you can tell this game is not using nanite or any virtualized geometry tech alright...

Ambitious and big but sorry i'm not impressed by the fidelity on screen, as far as graphic goes, fable is a noticeable step up except for the characters maybe.

Still my second most hyped game of the year after gta6.
Their clear weaknesses are on their geometry system, but on other hand they used full raytracing features and at very least this game visuals didn't look like last gen game, considering it's scale it's really good, it feels like medevil game with GTA scale

I mean the models\face are vastly inferior to hfw which is a crossgen game, i know i'm a broken record but a fully nextgen game should blast a crossgen game out of the water in every aspect.
I played fw on pc and the level of details is really not inferior to this game or they trade blows at worse, it has more fog and probably worst lighting, but the big differences ends there if we only talk about graphic.

And i'm not an expert on good lights but i saw a couple of scene where the lights looked pretty flat, they are probably not using the most advanced form of raytracing.

I need to see how much interaction there is with the world to understand if the hit on graphic is warranted.

Trailers and curated gameplay can trick us, i could make a cut trailer where i break 100 different objects in infamous second son, bit was the game ever famous for its world interactions tho?

Hell i could make a trailer of horizon where you break trees, rocks and small wooden\metal structures and make the game look way more interactive than it is.

Not sure if you get where i'm going, trailers can trick us on how much interaction\destruction there is in the world.

Dogma 2 trailers make it look like the world and the bigg bosses were a big deal in terms of interaction but the game itself was a wet fart in terms of actual destruction and interactions.

I'm hyped but also a pessimist :lollipop_squinting:

yeah, this is a weird one. there are definitely things that are next gen about it. and some that are effectively in the cross gen territory. But honestly, with that draw distance and scale, something had to give.

I am more interested in the gameplay. Lots of very cool melee moves and setpieces. to me, a game this ambitious doesnt come that often. So even if its lacking in some textures, or character models, i will give it a pass if it does the other stuff well.

Free to not believe me, but even if an ideal world, every game should look like hb2, i like this game so much on paper that i don't even give a fuck if the graphic is not top tier in every aspect and you know how anal am i about characters models, the game is probably gonna look much worse than shadow while being an immemsely better game to actually play.

I just want to play the damn game and maxed out on pc it's probably gonna look great like most AAA.

Kinda the opposite of gta6, i know the game is gonna have mediocre gameplay and arcaic mission design most probably but i'm super interested in the tech more than the game itself.

For being their first single player open world it looks good enough.

It has been roughly 3 years since High On Life Came out. Zero chance the developer has the resources to develop a game that would look like the reveal trailer. You could give them 10 years and it still wouldn't happen
I remember someone being very optimistic about the graphic after the reveal but it looked way too good and scripted.

Crimson Desert looks really good but I want to see it running on my PC. LOD is a bit too close but as SlimySnake SlimySnake said I can forgive a few things when the game is that ambitious.
Physics seems to be solid too. RTGI might be a bit off as we can see leak/inconsistencies (13m50s for a good example)

Still really excited to finally play this !

I agree with you about it's weakness, and I also don't like some of its trailers visuals, but I really like their direction and investment on their own tech and game with this scale, hopefully this one not dissapointed me.

It's draw distance and scale are very impressive

Agreed. Which makes the misleading reveal trailer even more pointless. Why bother trying to deceive at this point?

Pretty sure crimson doesn't even use ragdoll to save calculations on the cpu side, it would probably be too heavy to have active ragdoll during the big battles with 100+ ncps.

If you pay attention, enemy get throwed away but they always land\die in the same position.

Hopefully i'm wrong because being able to do wrestling moves without ragdoll sound a bit shit.

A part of me feels that Crimson Desert would look 2x cleaner if they had decided to use some sort of cel-shading, toon shading, or anime shading technique.
That's entirely depends on character design they are going for and if they would look good in that type visual style.

Currently MHStories 3 has one of my favourite cell shading/anime artstyle in games

Speaking of crismon desert:

The Witcher 4 has got some SERIOUS competition at least graphically. GODDAMN

I swear some people have their eyes inside their asses...

Crimson Desert doesn't look that great to me at all. It's so over sharpened, like someone said earlier. Ass Creed Shadows looks way better, and even "cross gen trash" like Horizon FW and Ghost of Yotei look much prettier imo.

It does have a rough image quality imo. Im not that impressed with that game either

this is going to be the perfect game to compare Anvil, Snwodrop, UE5 and the Black Desert Engines. Shame we wont see RDR3 until 2035.

absolutely marvelous. B benzy gifs are a work of art themselves.

Yotei doesn't look much better than anything really.
lol I havent played it yet but it would be an interesting topic to list where it lands among other Sony games this gen. Is HFW still King 4 years later despite being cross gen? Dont think it looks better than Demon Souls either.

Samson got a new gameplay video. Lots of new footage.

The video is only 1080p and very blurry. This is partly why twitter bros think gaming visuals have stagnated. Devs dont do a good job showcasing their own games. We know from experience that UE5 games will have really good asset quality and realistic lumen lighting but thats not showing up in youtube. At least in 1080p vids. And especially for a dark gritty game like this.

I do like the destructible environments. Especially in the grocery store where the guy gets shoved into a shelf and a bunch of vitamin bottles fall off. I also like the hair physics when hes throwing punches. Night time driving is also very beautiful. Giving NFS 2015 vibes.

I'm currently playing Yotei on the pro and that's embarassing. Besides the massively improved draw distance, I feel like I'm playing Tsushima. Not sure what they did for 5 damn years. Visually speaking and in terms of gameplay features, it really feels like Tsushima 1.5.

I haven't played it yet either but from what I've seen it looks better than Horizon on average but Horizon probably still has the higher highs. Although tbf Horizon's highs are still better than pretty much all non-Sony games too, especially the Burning Shores expansion. I really think the only game that's clearly better than anything Sony's put out this gen - consistently and not just in one aspect like RT interiors, like with Outlaws, say - is Shadows.

Imo the Sony standings would be something like:

Ratchet & Clank
Ghost of Yotei
Horizon FW
Spider-Man 2
Demon's Souls
Death Stranding 2
TLOU P1
Astro Bot
Gran Turismo 7
Returnal
GOW Ragnarok
... other stuff

You have to add TLOU 2 remastered.

In terms of what I've played so far, Granblue Relink has impressed me the most recently with it's version of shading, which is why a part of me thinks some form of shading would work for Crimson Desert.

Granblue Relink is not really cell shading, this what cell shading looks like which mimics anime you see on TV shows.

I know lol, that's why I didn't specifically call it cel-shaded. There are a lot of variations of shading out there that have their own names, Granblue is one of them, and I like what they did the most (so far).
