New Nioh 3 demo coming 1/29. Progress carries over. Steam and ps5.

It's weird that the demo on PC have DRM , you have to be always online to play , but the game runs butter smooth without any stutter, I am surprised to see an optimized game on pc from team ninja

The cutscene before the 1st boss incorporating your chosen weapons is a nice touch. Took 5 tries but I got him. I never finished the second game but this might be a day 1. A lot of fun. And the graphics are nice imo. Looks better than I remember Nioh 2 looking.

Love Ninja mode. Game seems optimized which is a surprise from TN. Runs smooth too. Jump and double jump add some depth to combat between aerials and another way to dodge attacks.

Played on PC, has everything you need including dlss/fg/etc. Decent amount of settings, runs great, no stutters, pop'in so far seems good and doesnt load assets 1 m in front of you and yeah it's nioh 2 which I enjoyed. I'm sold, I'm in.

More NiOh 2 without being a complete technological trainwreck like Wolong already sounds good enough for me to keep my preorder :). I already know that I´ll be endgame torturing myself for at least a hundred hours :)

Yeah it seems like the graphics are better. It still behind other companies in terms of technology but they definitely improved the engine for this game. DLAA makes the game look really nice too

Does the mist dodge have iframes? I swear I get hit more doing it. I guess since it doesn't take stamina it doesn't. First two skills I unlocked was deflect with Samurai and perfect dodge with Ninja. I thought the boss would end the demo but now there is a huge area to explore. Huge demo.

Anyone play on the ps5 pro? I remember trying the alpha and while it wasnt terrible I wanted better performance for sure. Still that was 7 months ago so i would assume its good now?

Absolutely adore Nioh but I'm really not a fan of the open world direction it's taken so far. One thing it's done really well for me though is Ninjutsu. I've played all the Souls and Nioh games multiple times and never once used magic/ninjutsu until now. With the new ninja style and how easy it is to use ninjutsu without using d-pad and to be able to get your tools back through attacking, I've found myself experimenting more than ever.

It's open field, not open world. Huge and wide interconnected area, but you can't just wander off anywhere like in Elden Ring.

On the bright side, I'm really enjoying the demo so far. I don't really feel the flow between samurai and ninja modes yet but both feel good to play. I can get 120 FPS at native res with settings at high, but the game is absolutely hammering my CPU and putting it at temps of almost 100c. Even the tutorial area had heavy CPU usage. I never played RotR but I remember hearing that game was similarly heavily CPU-bound. I'm gonna mess with the settings later and hope something fixes that. This game's more CPU heavy than pretty much any RTS or grand strategy game I've played

Personally not a fan of open field then either, but I'm one of those weirdos that had zero issues in the previous Nioh games or something like Lies of P. If the gameplay is that good, which i have no doubt Nioh 3 will be, then I prefer linear level design. I might come around on this the more i play though. I dunno.

Runs much better than I expected it would.
Seems they snuck a bit of wo long in there with the stance switching acting as a counter, I also like that both stances have meaningful differences in movesets.
I generally don't watch trailers and such so I had no idea they moved this to "open" world, was pretty surprised by the late title screen and the map; looks like this is nioh+wolong+eldenring then.
Though purely for combat I'd still go with wo long, this definitely looks like it could be a winner.

The only thing that really stands out is the water reflections. They look outright ugly, absolutely terrible. The engine needs raytracing reflections

So far it's everything I want in a Nioh, only better. I'm so glad they didn't phone in the PC version like the last two, this is a huge step up from both Nioh 1 and 2. They are never going to make a next gen blow you away graphical game, but this is nice. My one and only complaint, so far, is that they absolutely butchered the English voice version again by using fucking Brits to voice everyone. In Nioh they used Japanese voice actors for the Japanese characters so even when you played in English it sounded authentic, now it just sounds stupid. I'll never understand why Japanese developers always do this.

Gonna be my favorite action game ever. It won't be close. Everything I wanted a Nioh game to be

The deflect sound is so good. Feels great to pull off

I loved Nioh 1 and 2 but I absolutely hate this one. The technical side even on Pro is kinda shocking. This looks legit like an early PS4 game and imo even worse than Rise of the Ronin. It was either this or Code Vein and I'm glad I tried the demo. Code Vein it is.

Not the biggest fan of the franchise, but Holy fuck I am never paying anywhere close to £65 for any fucking game. That is so bad.

Cdkeys has it at £45 (£66 for Deluxe), but even then its a bit high for me with my excitement levels.

The game is pretty solid 60fps with occasional drops to 57. In some battles and many particles can drop to mid 50. Runs better than the alpha

Tried PC demo and PS5 Pro version. It still look much worse than it should based on what hardware it's targeting, game has nice HDR (but raised black level...).

Gameplay is Nioh... I'm not the biggest fan.

I haven't tried it on PC yet,
does it still have the camera cadence issue of their previous games, where the moment the fps isn't a 100% flat 60fps or 100% flat 120fps it feels stuttery as fuck, even with VRR?

I was excited for this

Runs good and looks fine on PC

... then the intro starts - what in the f*** is this story? I made it through about an hour of the linear tutorial crap and I while the game could get better when opening up the first hour is so damn shitty so I will not buy this.

Everyone should learn from Elden Ring how to start a game

I just tried the demo on ps5 and on my laptop.

The graphics update from the alpha demo on ps5 are huge. The game looks way better and the combat is also improved.

On ps5 the quality mode has good graphics and felt locked
at 30 fps for me.

On my laptop with a rtx 4050 the game played on ultra at 1080p/60 fps with some frame drops.

Framegen is broken to me, because every time I turned on the game ran at 20 fps.

Overall seems great and I decided to buy it at launch...

I am just pondering where to buy it.

On steam the game is cheaper, but I can pre order on ps5 and get the steelbok edition. I think I will go with the ps5 physical edition.

Yeah, this was my first impression last night and I just shut it off an went to bed. I'll give it another shake today but I hate the "duel for tutorial" shit followed by some boring slow walking around while exposition happens.

Make it a cutscene and let me skip it.

Yeah idk why people are complaining about graphics. Is it the best looking game ever? No. But it looks nice and runs great. There are ugly textures in every game.

still not very smooth on anything that is not 60fps or a multiplier of 60fps on my end but definitely a big improvement over prior titles, pretty sure this is their core engine problem. Team Ninja art direction is very good, even old games like Nioh 2 has good looking cut scenes to this day.

hopefully new game plus let us skip that portion....
Just tried it (80-100fps) - it still does that...
Much like previous titles, specifically Rise of the ronin, I gave up and locked the game to 60fps and turn on smooth motion so everything double to 120fps. As long as your have GPU head room that can run the game at 60+ fps without any frame gen, it should be achievable since the optical flow accelerators are not doing anything. I did a comparison myself with DLSS4 FG vs Smooth motion, Smooth motion average around 10fps higher which make sense since the frame gen task is offloaded to the optical flow accelerators but DLSS4 FG share resources with tensor cores for upscaling. Side effect of Smooth motion is that it is agnostic to the contents on the screen, doesn't matter its gameplay, FMV or UI, it just take everything and double the frame rate.

True. Nobody can beat Code Vein's graphics.....

yeah, that's a shame.

it's weird that they haven't fixed that ever since the very first Nioh.
they clearly are doing something weird with the interpolation of their camera. it also made their quality mode basically unplayable, because it's not only uneven framerates that look stuttery, the camera also looks insanely stuttery at 30fps. so you'd think offering a 30fps mode that looks like it's running at 15fps due to the camera would have raised some red flags internally.

Is it even a Team Ninja game if it doesn't look like 1-2 generations behind? (and somehow also doesn't run all that smooth either?)
Haven't played this new demo but the first one looked pretty rough on base Ps5, not as hilariously bad as Stranger of Paradise, but still.

Not sure if it'll change anything but if you just put the graphic preset on Ultra that's still not maxed out. Have to manually turn up quite a few options, even Terrain Quality was set to Normal, when using Ultra preset.

how times have changed. back on og Xbox, their games looked a full generation ahead and ran at 60fps doing so.

Yup, it's a shame.
I don't even really care about the graphics, but considering how these games look they should at least run well. Stuff like Nioh 3 or Rise of Ronin should run at like native 1440p locked 60fps on a Ps5, not like 900p 40-60fps.

Stranger of Paradise straight up looks like Ps3 game in some levels, barely runs at like 1080p on SX/PS5 and still has framedrops.

Why the hell would you bother listening to a story from Team Ninja lol?

wasn't it Stranger of Paradise where people found assets that had millions of polygons for totally unimportant stuff like small enemies and tiny details of some character models?

I remember seeing screenshots showing the meshes and you couldn't even see the individual polygons without zooming in like crazy 🤣

I have played nearly 200 hours of Nioh 2 and couldn't tell you a fuckin thing that happened in that game. I vaguely remember getting betrayed by a seemingly innocent friend, and that also happened in the first 20 mins of Nioh 3.
