Highguard |OT| Mount up and raid with me (Is this the Apex of hero shooters?)

Are you telling me that people are criticizing shitty video games on a video game forum?

Oh My God Reaction GIF

How strange
There is difference between constructive criticism and retarded drive-by posts. You know exactly what I mean, don't be a smart-arse.

Fuck off trying to police people rightfully shitting on shitty games

Shitty games don't even deserve the energy needed for long criticism

It's decent.

I'd be rooting harder for it if multi-player was just Valorant, Overwatch, and RS Siege. It's conceptually more interesting than those.

The main annoyances for me are:

- There's no obvious counterplay to opponents who are better at shooting than you. Overwatch solved this 10 years ago.

- Defense phase feels like something they'd work on post release. Your team has 15 walls they can reinforce but borders on feeling completely useless.

- Typical progression problem. You play 6 matches in 2 hours and end up unlocking gold socks for a character you don't use.

A lot of the criticisms feel pretty invalid to me.
Pretty much agree with all of this.

So, for science 🤭, I tested out the match leaving system. After 3 times you get a 10 min timeout, and after a 4th time you aren't allowed to play anymore I ASSUME for 24 hours, the play button was just greyed out

I played for an hour and I mostly enjoyed it but have one major gripe. 3v3 fucking sucks and will be the reason I'll quite. Oh also unless I missed it you can't even train with any character to get a feel for them. Instead you are dropped into a match and trying to look at the heros to see whats what and the timer is very short to pick. That isn't fun. I love the destruction even if it is simple mostly, still enjoyable.
I need to give it another couple of hours to make a final verdict, but 3v3 is really not fun to me ultimately.

Yeah 3v3 was a terrible choice, even when all 3 of my team go in separate directions during the looting phase I've never bumped into the enemy team.

Also there is a training room, above the play button you can switch game mode

Yeah, it seems you pretty much don't see enemies until the shieldbreaker is spawning to bring everyone to location.
I did the training mode, are you able to change characters in there? I must of missed it if so

LMAO foolish of me to assume the training mode would let you select your character, my bad

You think a game is shit and therefore it is objectively shit. Right…. and I'm the retard.
Correct on all accounts. I'm so sick of people arguing that all media is subjective and there's no such thing as good games or bad games and it's all just personal opinion.

Not to mention if metrics are important to you at all, basically every single metric points to this being a bad game. User reviews are horrible and engagement has dropped off a cliff.

Edit:

People typically don't need to do this if the game is good:

I couldn't give a flying fuck about the reviews or general consensus. There are plenty of games that are widely praised that I think suck balls. That's why we share impressions in OTs. We discuss with some level of maturity, and actually have thoughtful discussions. None of this limp dick sheep shagging inbred brainrot level posts that shit up the thread for those of us actually playing the game. You know, the people that can substantiate their own opinions constructively and critically.

You sound like every other bitter overly invested gamer who is throwing a temper tantrum over others not liking this terrible game which will be dead within a few months

FYI, if you want the game to survive, which you clearly do, then you obviously do care about perception because this is an online game that requires other people to exist. This isn't a single player game you can enjoy alone.

Yup.

Like that old saying... I dont need to eat shit to know it's shit.

If anyone ever says they got to try it before judge it, then that person must be randomly buying anything while grocery shopping or have no problem eating sweetbreads or headcheese because hey! Not only does it sound cute, but you never know if you'll like eating those sketchy parts of an animal. Why stick to chicken wings and steak when you can eat brains and snouts. But of course they'll avoid it because it's surely gross and tastes like shit.

They just say stuff like that because they feel embarrassed and have low self esteem people laugh at what they like.

I like COD, NHL and when it comes to PC gaming I like old school hex based military games (even including Risk and Axis and Allies kinds of games). If someone wants to laugh go ahead. Dont need to rag on people or defend my choices. Some people like these games, some dont. Just like I dont care for bright and bloomy shooters and RTS games. Who cares.

I got to ask, were you a big SSI fan in the 80's? Because that basically sounds like most of their releases ;)

HOMM and Steel Panthers!

I was too young to play a lot of those old SSI games (or old strat games in general), but I remember playing Ogre on my bro's old Apple II. As well as Cartels & Cutthroats business game! Never cared for it, but my bro also loved Computer Baseball. The shittiest looking baseball game in history. But real teams, players and stat tracking. My older bro's played Shard of Spring and D&D Gold Box games. So back in the 80s I still liked some old strategy games. I just didnt understand them well and my bros would destroy me if it was a competitive game like Cartels. lol

I was lucky since my older siblings back then would be big in games.... board games, card games, video games. Even briefly dabbled with D&D. So when it came to this kind of stuff, you get exposed to all kinds of games and they help explain it to you. I knew how to play poker and card games or Scrabble in grade school. And because one of them bought the Scrabble dictionary, I learned all the crazy 2-letter words like Xi, Xu, Qaid and Qintar too. That's how I really got into NHL and baseball too, including all the stats and how to calculate them... ERA, GAA etc... My older bros would teach me all the stats when newspapers would show their giant stats pages once a week. My bros also bought lots of gaming mags and sports almanacs too like annual hockey or baseball stat and history books.... those thick mofos which are like 400 pages thick.

Great times as a kid. Heck I even learned how to read a racing form from the track as a kid.... times, furlongs, mud/dirt, speed rating etc...

That gold sniper rifle is absolutely a fire hose of death. Just had a crazy come back tonight because everyone was trying to trade AR shots with it.

Good sh**!

Party size is now 5 people? Are they gonna patch in 5v5 on the first week lol. That would make the game better for sure

Thats cool for the initial phases but if you have up to 10 players battling it out during the base raids that might be too chaotic. They would have to increase the size of the bases, and/or add more generators to split up the players. Im not sure they can do that kind of thing in the short term.

Just got to play today for first time.

-Tutorial was short? You fucking weird ass cry babies that it's long are delusional.
-The lip syncing for shop keeper is ass
-Map size felt just fine considering how fast the mount is
-The back and forth flow is there for clutch wins
-Sniper feels good.
-Combat wasn't insta kill with back and forth

All around a fun and good game so far.

That's a big dick update.

I'll play more soon. Trying Cairn out. Want to climb this mountain dog.

I think what people need to realize is 90% of gamers and people out there aren't on forums or even caring what the online nerds say or do, they see games show up and either are interested or not, and when shit games release and nobody is playing it's because the devs didn't do a good enough job at making a game that people want to play.

The excuse making and the way people go on the attack as if there's some mind hive that sends out a signal for people to all reject a game is so old now, they need to take accountability in their product is just bad.

If someone enjoys this by all means but don't get offended when nobody else is interested in it.

Did they really change it to 5v5? I tried to google "Highguard update" and just got a bunch of day old posts talking about the roadmap

its seperate from the 3v3 mode, which is still available. They're advertising 5v5 as a 'limited time' mode, but im sure if people like it enough and it brings players back then im sure they will keep it in.

Played my first 5v5. Took me 30 min. Holy shit it made the game so much better its kinda insane. It needs a lot of tuning, but the pacing is much better, the battle on the fields are much longer and the sieges actually feels like siege now lol. All it took is 4 more players. You can finally turn motion blur off and DLSS4 works perfectly so the game looks crisp now

Yea nice. Will give it another crack today.

I still prefer 3v3. 5v5 made respawning on defense impossible to not get spawn killed no matter where I picked.

The fact that they had an system for 5v5 ready to go is proof that even they weren't too confident in the structure of the game.

I can only imagine someone convincing the dumbass in charge "but, maybe we can let some things ready for a 5v5 just in case?" after being told all the time about his unique vision on 3v3.

It needs tuning hence the experimental tag, but i just played 2 rounds of 5v5 and this feels like a different game to me. Should've been 5v5 from the start when they started designing this game. Launching this without beta was a huge mistake. If this was launched as an early access title it would've been so much better

You need a beefy ass PC for 5v5 tho. I just crashed at the end of the match when the base blew up :D

My wishlist for the game at this point

- Add a progression/leveling system of some kind. No matter how many updates or changes they make, without a carrot on a stick people will continue to fall off even if they're having fun. Even if you level up and the only rewards are some random cosmetics, that would still be better than nothing and give players the feeling that they're striving towards something. This is pretty much mandatory for any modern shooter nowadays.

- Add some additional modes. They can use whats already there as a foundation like there could be a TDM or objective mode that has teams fighting within a single base. Or take the shieldbreaker phase and turn that into a seperate CTF type of mode. This is actually the most fun phase IMO so a seperate mode with that design would be a winner

- Continue optimizing, tweaking, and adding basic features that are missing for some reason (like text chat on PC). Also, I think the loot needs to be rethought. It feels like a first iteration of a system that should be more interesting than it is

I think if they can do this while adhering to the episodic road map they have planned, then the game will be in a decent state.

All 3 of my 5v5 matches were awesome. Its like a fucking war lol
Defense on this game is ass gaping seminar on 5v5.

The devs were right - 3v3 is best.

When 5 people chuck nades at once or multiple shit like Atticus spear or fire from rage etc it's a disaster.

3v3 was the right choice.

I didnt feel that way and the constant back and forth and the fight for the shieldbreaker on the battlefield is legit good now

Huch, they added 5 vs 5. I guess i have to install it again. The huge empty maps were my biggest problem with the game.

You aren't meant to explore these maps and they aren't huge.

Just run a path towards where the SB will spawn, pick up a helm some armor, pick axe some shit, pray for a weapon upgrade.

Fight over SB, onto a base.

Pull up the map in game next time. They are mid size
