Let’s face it, GTA 6 is going to be a locked 30fps

Us when we finally get to play it

That's good though, since GTA 7 won't be out for at least a decade, 6 will at least look decent for quite some time and you always have the option to get it on PC.

Give how these mofos even refuse to release a 60fps patch of rdr2, I doubt they'll bother with gta6.

The Witcher 4 is a massive open world game with astonishing graphics, RT, amazing simulation etc, and that's targeting 60fps on a PS5, so until proven otherwise I'm not going to give up on GTA 6 having a performance mode just because those idiots at Digital Foundry say it's impossible.

We barely have any games this generation that's locked to 30 fps only . More than likely we will have a 40 or 60fps option also

We had few CPU heavy games that were 30/40fps locked like Starfield and PT Requiem. Both of them later got patches with CPU optimizations/cuts (PT only) and unlocked framerate.

GTA type game will be more CPU heavy than fantasy setting in the witcher (lots of npcs, heavy traffic etc.). I wonder how TW4 will run in city like Novigrad but rest of the games should be smooth sailing for current gen consoles when it comes to CPU stuff.

Ever since GTA 6 was shown I was longing 60fps mode. I struggle so much playing anything at 30fps now and I'm craving playing this game.

I struggle with the amount of tech going into this just how they are going to hit 30fps, let alone anything higher. The CPU is going to be pushed to its limits. The Xbox series S and PS5 CPU's aren't really that much different. Even on the pro, we may get some enhanced visuals only.

I also think Rockstar see no benefit of doing a 60fps mode when they can resell the game later.

I'm not sure if I can hold off for a next gen version so may just have to lump it.

Thoughts?
All GTA were 30fps ish on consoles except GTA5 which was 60fps on Zen 2 consoles. Logically GTA6 should be 60fps too.

Will easily wait for the 60 fps version... fomo is for children

And it wouldn't look nearly as good as it does at 60fps. You would have to be an insane framerate warrior to want them to downgrade and ugly up the most expensive and ambitious game of all time just to hit a framerate on consoles.

Opinions how do they work... tag always checks out

They will maximize the double dipping.

2026:
Current gen console release
30fps on PS5/XSX
40fps on PS5 Pro

2027:
Next gen console release
60fps on PS6/Xbox Magnus

2028:
PC release

2029:
Nintendo release
Switch 2, low res 30fps

2030:
Next gen handheld release
PS6 Portable

2031:
Ray-Tracing definitive edition
Next gen consoles, 30fps

2032:
Path-Traced definitive edition
PC

2034:
Path Traced Ultimate release
PS7/PC, 60+ fps

40fps and I'm fine since GTA games aren't really known for their fast paced action.

There is slight hope for 60fps if they really work on a performance mode. They must have the data about how the vast majority of people choose performance mode over fidelity mode if possible. And since people have gotten used to playing only 60fps games for a few years now, they must realize people will be mad and bitch about performance/lag etc if they are forced to 30fps slop.

Then again 60fps version for PS6/PC version must be something they know would make bank with people double dipping.

I wish that all my problems were as simple as "oh no GTAVI is not going to be a 60fps game on consoles!" I got much bigger fish to fry in my life. That and I played 100 hours of GTAV on PS3, so I could not give a fudge.

I would be okay with that because for a while now I notice how I always opt for quality mode, since I still find the visual difference too big. Recently with Alan Wake 2, Mafia ToC, I had to with KCD1 and I did for the demo of KCD2 and will do for the full game as well.

I've always been able to easily switch between 60fps and 30fps. Ideally I have a sick ass PC and can just play it all at the most crazy settings but my PC days are long over.

nah don't bet on it.
we were also supposed to be back to 30fps on consoles for years by now, according to df big brains and their parrots around here.

I do think sony will push them for 60fps or at least extra mod eon ps5 pro due to marketing rights. I know Rockstar wont do it, but I really wish more devs left option for unlocked fps like nioh, i famlus etc did. You just boot them on better hw and get solid 60. Thats futureproofing for ya

And fear a 60fps mode on the Pro :lollipop_content:

What? I intend to play the game on Pro...

Reality is, they don't have to lock anything, locking the framerate obsession is about 60Hz displays. They can leave option for 120Hz users - unlocked with VRR and LFC. Game can run 30-120fps and it will be way smoother than with dreadful 30fps lock...

I think at least PS5 Pro will have a 60 FPS version, specially if they have a marketing deal with Sony, but i'd bet PS5 will have it too.

GTA is CPU heavy but the game is easily scalable, it's the amount of pedestrians and cars that make it so heavy, they can perfectly tone it down as hard as they want, if i recall correctly CDProjekt did the same with Cyberpunk?

ultra preset will 70-90fps on PC, 120-180fps with Nvidia MFG.

base consoles will be 25-40fps with performance preset

ps5 pro will be 25-60fps unlock mode

It's still a legit awesome console.

I expect there to be a performance/fidelity mode, lots of the big modern games do that.

It is a great console that isn't being utilized to its potential by 3rd party developers and Sony's own first party output has been fairly underwhelming this generation. Upgrading from the Slim to the Pro hasn't been worth it imo. Hoping GTA6 and some of Sony's 2026 releases changes that.

60FPS is overrated. IMO
I'd rather games look as good as GTAVI and have as much going on CPU wise than it be wasted on an additional 30FPS.

Take this shot as an example of where CPU power can be better spent:

We have lots of different activities going on at once, NPC's interacting with one another (old man staring at the topless sunbather), there's a woman jogging in the background, a coast guard watching the beach and when it pans out you see more beach activities as well.

Creating a living world is sacrificed for devs striving for 60FPS or higher.

It's a waste.

Well if mark cerny is to be believed your opinion is not the majority since the perfomance is the most chosen mode by a large margin... but none the less is a valid one even if I completely disagree
