• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

What game are you currently playing?

I'm liking Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, though I admit i'm using Cheathappens to cheat in it. but i would recommend it. we and my partner are having some laughs while I play it. after this game I'll probably be in another gaming rut. Marvel Rivals and the first descendant has kinda lost it alure to me. so hopping around on games.

Dispatch and Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. Wuchang will probably be my last Soulslikes for a while, but I do like the game. Dispatch is actually funnier than I thought it would be.

Wicked Seed - Finished 8/10
Good indie effort. Combat was the best part of the game with it being rather similar to the original Parasite Eve. New content coming to the game in the near future which might tempt me to play through it again.

Going to start Hellmart next.

Valkyria Chronicles - Chapter 08: The Woodland Snare (Pt.1)

I can't decide on which rifles to give to my squad units. For now, I've given my Engineers the Gallian-X1 with Def Down effect. The Scouts are equipped with the Gallian-S1. In the meantime, I'm still waiting for that Sniper rifle upgrade.

Everyone is at Level 9. The hunt continues.

Finally playing Terminator Resistance, the complete edition, which I bought all the way back on Black Friday.

I have a really soft spot for this game, can't believe it reviewed at bad as it did. It's an easy 8~ in my book.

Never played the Annihilation Line story DLC before, but have played the base game itself.

Also, is it just me or does this dead guy look like Robert Patrick circa T2 ?

I replayed Sleeping Dogs which was my first playthrough since it originally released on PS3. The definitive edition is a miserable experience on PS5 as it is prone to crashes and the sound cuts out during hectic scenes. For its' time, it did so many neat things highlighted by the melee system and environmental interactivity, but I do think its' kind of aged poorly. Progression in the story often feels sped up and as a whole it feels completely predictable. The driving model never felt great, but it does handle pretty well in conjunction with shooting your weapons. The gun combat is a mixed bag as the accuracy of the weapons kind of sucks but it does encourage you to do some cool John Woo shit with its' aggressive cover system. I don't remember the original version be as buggy, but I ran into a ton in the definitive edition (being stuck in the world, randomly failing missions based on where your car is parked, enemies spawning in front of you, etc.). It's a bummer the game was never iterated on, but I don't think I'll ever go back again.

Been playing mio for the last few days. Really surprised me, never even heard of it before its release. Not sure why this game has gotten so little publicity.

Sacked off Alan Wake 2 - what a tedious boring slog of a "game".

I'm not doing too well with not buying games this year so far.....grabbed Resident 7 & 8 gold editions off CdKeys to replace Alan Wank.

This has added to my list of
Hitman WOA
WRC generations
Crysis trilogy
Dirt rally 2
EA wrc
Turok 1 & 2
Dead Space 2008

And now considering Expedition 33!

Actually playing Crysis 2 now, is pretty good TBF.

This weekend, it'll be a mix of Playstation 3 and Xbox I think- With the PS3 checking out and continuing on with Starhawk - and Ratchet and Clank a crank in time, Series X- See how far I can get in Marvel Cosmic invasion (the only game right now I am playing from Gamepass, before I head to Star Wars outlaws) (but in general there is sooo much in the back-log - Mad Max, Deliver Us Mars, Tomb-Raider, Sleeping Dogs, Cyberpunk, Robocop, Force Unleashed, etc...)

Just finished Bayonetta 3 after waiting for a performance bump from the switch2 and was worth it, runs buttery smooth now. The giant demon slaves are interesting and vary the gameplay quite a bit but change the combat significantly, making the environments huge but also duller.

Love traversing and the effortless transitioning between walking and gliding. Appreciate all the options, especially the skates and yoyo. Like the subtle vibrations while picking up flowers and how they show where you've been, and many other little things that make it charming. Incredible animations.. really love them. The spectacle of it all is unique and fun. Story isn't great, graphics a step down from the last.

Not sure how to rate it compared to the first two. Feels like combat is more interesting due to the variety yet requires less skill. Need to go back and try the others again but for now thinking 2 > 3 > 1.

Did this get a boost on switch 2? Improved frame rates and resolution?

Think I bought the game some time back but never got around to starting it

Finally beat Commandos Origins. Took me like 80 hours. I go as slow as possible though and kill every single person on the map, hide every body and do it all with zero alerts. The last mission alone is a truly gigantic castle like I have honestly never seen in a game. Layers and layers of interiors with different heights, every inch of it packed with complex enemy layouts.

I give it a 9/10. Music and story were largely irrelevant. Just top tier stealth tactics gameplay, and lots of it. Up there with the very best in the genre.

No resolution upgrade but gets a bc boost so locked 6 60fps now.

Finishing Bayonetta 3 motivated me to also finish Devil May Cry 5. Played it over five years on three different systems.🙄 Funny how they both have three stylish playable characters that you fight through proxies via. V and the demon slaves. Great atmosphere, story and characters and excellent combat. Not sure if I'll play it again or give DMC4 a try next since it felt like I was just starting the hang of it towards the end.

Funny enough, I finished DMC 5 last year after buying it on sale in like 2020 I think.

How does Bayonetta look on switch 2? Locked 60fps is nice but I hate how many switch games look on the switch 2 display due to the imperfect pixel scaling. Did you play docked or handheld

Man, the Annihilation Line DLC for Terminator Resistance is fucking BANGING.

The whole game is kind of a prequel to the movies but this DLC is extra prequel-y, you've got Kyle Reese in your team for all of it.

Some good back drops too.

After the disappointment of Terminator 2D No Fate, this is such a refreshing game to play.

Between this and Robocop, Teyon have carved an incredible niche of reviving 80's action movies as fantastic video games.

P3R between SD and PC. I'm enjoyed it but just like P5 at the end it dragggggs. I'm at 70+ hours.

it looks and plays fantastic, except cutscenes

About to wrap up Chapter 10 of the RE4 Remake on PC. Man, this game is no joke on Veteran. Kicked my ass in Chapter 9 & 10.

That said, I still can't get over how good this game looks on PC. Blows me away every time I boot this game at night. 11 year old me who played the original RE1 would have never believed me. Character models and lightning are off the charts here. CGI sequences looked less impressive than this.

What I don't understand is how Capcom managed to make the game best looking with HDR off. It can be a bit too dark at times without but overall the colors are way to washed out with HDR. But that it still manages to have lightning this bright is a bit puzzling to me.

Terminator Resistance kicks ass. Best movie license game in a long time. Helluva underrated imo.

Valkyria Chronicles - Chapter 08: Reunion in the Forest

This was a strange one because it went all Final Fantasy on my units with the status ailments. My units were rendered inert from the start.

My only saving grace was putting a sniper behind the Edelweiss where there is an incline in the terrain so that I could take pot shots at the enemy.

Tore through the game over the weekend and enjoyed it a lot.

The DLC literally ends on a picture of Sarah Conner, great way to round it up to the movies.

Playing through Forspoken. Was in a mood for an open world game with nice traversal. It's surprisingly good. The open world is kind of barren, with basically the only thing to do being murdering goons. But it's fun. The powers are good, parkour feels very, very good (dualsense goodness) and most surprising of all, the story is alright with some very good voice acting and facial animations.

Wasn't really sure what I was thirsting for. Finished Echoes of Wisdom and recently played a lot of CRPG like Baldur's Gate so I was looking for something a little more instant in terms of gratification. Cycled through a lot of things mentally, ended up trying out Mario 3D Land on 3DS just for the hell of it, been a long time since I played it. Turns out that's exactly the kind of experience I was looking for - short and to the point. Game is just as good as I remember, one of my favored Mario games for sure. Also tinkering with Mario 3D World on Switch, which I always liked less and while I'm enjoying it, still seems to be the case for the most part.

Switched up my rotation on Switch 2 over the past couple of weeks with the arrival of the new semester:

The Hundred Line - Last Defense Academy: I love this game. It takes the best parts of Danganronpa, which I loved on Vita, and adds a really fun and satisfying Tactics-style combat system. I'm about five hours or so in and having a great time so far.

Resident Evil 4 HD - I'm on Chapter 5-2 now. Incredibly fun game but I get a bit overwhelmed during the escort sections sometimes. I play this game in bite-sized pieces. One of the best action games ever as is well known. Loving this game.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (NSO) - I never got to play this back in its heyday on GameCube or during the Wii U era. I picked up an NSO GameCube controller for F-Zero GX and Soul Calibur 2, and playing Wind Waker with the GCN controller is so much fun. I just got the Master Sword. Really fun, satisfying game. I love Toon Link.

Hope everyone is finding something fun to play so far in 2026.

Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn.

Pretty cool game that blends Souls-like combat and mechanics with more traditional cinematic action/adventure games like Tomb Raider. You also have a little fox by your side which you can use to curse enemies or pull off devastating special attacks. If you play good, the combat can look incredibly slick, with cool animations and close ups on finishers that make you feel like a total bad ass. Story and dialogue are pretty generic but the world building, combat and exploration is top notch.

Cairn.

It's a charming little game where your main goal is basically to climb a massive mountain. The story has some solid beats, but the climbing is where it truly shines

Along the way you can meet some unique characters if you sidetrack on the mountain, each with their own little story.

I'm obsessed. The gameplay is really fun. I've been addicted since the first climb. After 12 hours, I'm apparently only halfway up, and I'm guessing it only gets tougher from here

Highly recommend

Falright so I have this beautiful new tv, and it inspired me to finish ratchet last week. So with that done, I thought I would mop up horizon fw. I knew I was towards the end. So I played that all day yesterday and finished it up right before bedtime. Both games looked amazing on the new set.

But this morning, I started the burning shores dlc and I have to say it has been one un-fun scenario after another. It's actually an interesting case of how encounter and level design can make or break a game. They introduce a new enemy that leaves you with nothing but the i-frames of your roll as defense. Then I am traversing up through a cramped ruin where the camera is feeling uncomfortable and I'm snagging on all sorts of craggy geometry, having one of those fake-urgent scenarios with explosions going off while I figure out what I am supposed to do, and then having to fight multiple enemies in close quarters who throw out aoe panic-moves at close range. Again making my only defense to roll against a wall and hope for a bit of luck, with a checkpoint that sets me back before a tedious npc-teamwork sequence.

I turned it off. I played enough for two weekends yesterday anyway lol. Maybe I'll go back but that left a bad taste in my mouth. I was really hoping to fully tick a game off my list. I was surprised to see that I had the dlc (maybe it was on sale before?) and doubly surprised that the main game ending left everyone in the line of certain death in a weird non-cliffhanger.

Horizon is such.... a thing. I've got issues with some of the gameplay systems, but all of that basically works. The deeper issue is the characters and writing. Everyone is so bland and it's so pervasive that I can hardly even imagine what the game would be like if they were better. After a cumulative 150 hours in these games, coma-inducing dialogues with feel like part of the core identity.

Alan Wake 2. Slogging and grinding through it. I can't wait for it to be over.
Oh God. I started this last spring and couldn't do it. On paper, it sounds amazing (survival horror, photo real graphics, noir setting, woods) but by the time I got to Chapter 2, I wanted to be done. Dropped off at Coffee World. It's far too slow and meandering. Doesn't have the same magic Control does.

Any game it has similar combat to? Gives me Greedfall vibes, which I really didn't like.

Just finished Cairn. Absolutely phenomenal! I loved every second of it.

I'm debating whether to tackle the hardest difficulty next, where death is permanent and there are no save points. There are still a few achievements left to pick up if I decide to do another run.

Does this game have gameplay or is it just an advanced walking simulator in the vein of Journey?

This is a tough but really rewarding survival-climbing game. You'll need strategy, precision, and careful resource management to make it through

It's not just about climbing, there's a full survival layer that keeps you on your toes. You have to scavenge for food and water, cook meals, manage your backpack, place (limited) pitons to stay safe, set up camp and deal with unpredictable events

There is a demo available

Interesting, thanks.

So I know there was a lot of hate for Metroid Prime 4, but I'm really enjoying it. Probably about halfway through (3/5 keys) and so far the criticisms aren't wrong, but way overblown (Myles yapping and desert). It looks amazing and feels great to play.

Valkyria Chronicles - Chapter 09: Kidnapping of Cordelia

This was not too bad.

I almost settled it in three turns when my
Shock Trooper nearly destroyed the engine of the getaway car by himself. He then got a face full of lead from the turret.

Second try.

I occupied the South-East rooftop with two
Scouts and waited for the getaway car. My Shock Trooper had enough legs to team up with them down the road and together they destoyed the engine. A very satisfying end.

Edelweiss took care of the reinforcements coming our way from the West and did not have to spend CP. Suck it,
Imps.

I'm currently entrenched in four games across a few consoles. I don't know what possessed me to jump into multiple RPGs at the same time though.

Ghost of Tsushima - I know, I'm only several years LTTP on this one. My wife gave me Ghost of Yotei for Christmas, but I've had Tsushima in my backlog for ages. Many folks said to play that before Yotei so that's what I'm doing. Cool game so far.

Mario & Luigi: Brothership - Picked this up at launch and only recently got around to playing it. I've had multiple friends say it drags on too long without quantifying why (probably spoilers, I imagine), but so far, I'm fine with how it's paced. We'll see if that sentiment changes.

Octopath Traveler 2 - I dove into this after renting 0 from GameFly and remembering how much I adored the original Octopath Traveler. I've had 2 since around release but it vanished into the backlog. Now it's at the front of the line and I'm digging it!

Yakuza 0: Director's Cut - I got this on the same day I got a Switch 2 and I've really struggled to stay engaged. I've seen many say it starts to pick up/get good from chapters 3-6 and after finishing chapter 3, I'm cautiously optimistic they were right.
