Of course they will, I feel like Nintendo always at least has one high scoring game a year. If not a couple. I think 80+ should definitely be expected, honestly I don't think at least one 90+ is too farfetched by any means. More than that is where it really fluctuates.

Mario Tennis Fever is 77 not 67. Slightly higher than Aces on Switch.

Highly likely Fire Emblem scores in mid to upper 80s since it seems to be more like Three Houses than Engage(which even scored 80).

Children still like Nintendon't and as long as they keep captive the kiddy market Nintendo will always have an audience. having said that, their latest games have been disappointing but the scores have been inflated by the hard die fanatics. Monolith is what keeps Nintendo afloat quality wise. Nintendo is stuck in the past with their ancient game designs.

You say that, but I don't think Nintendo's core audience are children anymore.

Nintendo understand that their core audience now are the kidults. The adults with disposable income and nostalgia. Those are the people who'd spend £100 on the next mainline Mario game without question and why Nintendo have introduced a variable pricing model. I'm guilty for this. If Nintendo price the next Pokémon game at £80 then I'm probably going to such it up, but I have the disposable income to do so.

Families with an OG Switch, like my sister for example, can't afford to upgrade to a Switch 2. The cost of games are too much for her. I'm sure there are many other families that are the same.

And before I get some hate, I'm not taking a dump on Nintendo. They're just following the market. Other companies have done the same. Look at Lego. Used to be a children's toy, but now most of their sets are expensive sets catered to kidults. It's making them bank, so you can't blame them.

With how popular they are? NO. negativity clicks are worth more than real reviews.

I bet the OP dreams about Nintendo... Sexy Dreams.

I mean, this is their C-B level stuff. The only one of those really disappointing is MP4.

I treat these games as Nintendo filler. They'll be sure to have something great this year.

I don't get how people always complain about how reatrded game journos are yet get so invested into thier opinion when it comes to reviews.
FWIW i thought Hyrule and Kirby were great games. Metroid was trash though and Nintendo deserves all the hate they get for it.

Why does it matter? You should be asking yourself 'Will Nintendo release a game that I enjoy this year?'. The stock you're putting into other people's opinions is odd.

can we talk tho about how in your list with a mainline Metroid prime game the best-rated title is Kirby fucking Air Riders with a 79

Nintendo, WTF are you doing? Why is taking you a year to make a Switch 2 update for SM Wonder? Why has it taken a decade for a new 3D Mario?

Thanks for all the GameCube and Wii ports I guess, but c'mon

I mean buying a console at launch is an investment in the future, always has been. You should probably wait if you're wanting to have several games to play immediately.
Yeah, with Nintendo consoles ever since I saw GBA SP appearing I always wait for the revision before jumping in. At that point you get a better version and the game library has grown satisfyingly. I'm just not into the "buy now and wait for the trickle."

At the end of the lifetime of Switch 2 we'll look back and appreciate its huge library of great games so there's no point in whining about its start.

Been saying for a while now. With Iwata's departure and fuck knows what Miyamoto is doing, they have no decent leadership left.

It's all monkey decisions by money men going forward.
To me they blew it by riding the first Switch for so long. We should be in the 3rd of the Switch 2 right now. Apple in the Jobs era always knew when it was time to move on from old products.

I think they are going to drastically stagnate Switch 2 growth with the current component crisis.

And guys like you totally ignore all the large amounts of hate thrown at Nintendo here, but jump to the defenses when Sony gets called out for anything. It's a two-way street.
Yeah, I'll always be there to defend Sony's honor. In every single thread. I just love corps trying to screw me over, can't help it. Whenever there is any form of criticism, I just deflect invoking conspiracy theories instead of using arguments. You got me.

KAR is not my type of game but 78 seems very low for it. It's a high quality game and has a ton of content. If it is your type of game it's easily a 90.

Exactly.

Now we're seeing the unravelling.

Large ships take a long time to change course. For better & for worse.
not this long, not 10 years and multiple hardware generations/cycles of game development

Yes very much this long... & multiple hardware cycles being one...

What I dont understand you guys have this obsessed with scores but if a game score lower than 80 you guys call it "trash" but if it gets high score you guys call it "overrated".....I really dont get you people.

You really can't handle any form of criticism towards the corp you love.

This bears repeating: the most insufferable zealots are the ones with zero arguments, self awareness and the same coping and excuses on repeat.

Mozza Mozza this is exactly what I was talking about in our PMs man...

It's either the "rent free" juvenile bullshit, the "hater" or
the "troll" one.

Zero discussion to be had, mind you, these are 40+ year old people with families, it really boggles the mind...

It's fucking insufferable at this point

Virtual Boy Device will get a 90+!

Nintendo is the most amazing company and a new Mario has to be coming.

Like I have always said Nintendo like any other videogame company are never beyond criticism, I bought Metroid Prime and was let down by it. So I can see it from both sides. My only gripe is some of these threads can be seen as bait, and even though as you say invite serious discussion. The motives behind these threads rarely intend that. And some of the replies are questionable to say the least. Yes there can be some very quick defense systems that are deployed, But for some it's a case of seen all this before.

I do feel Nintendo will get the big scores once we see a new 3D Mario title, Donkey Kong has already set the bar pretty high.

lol.

These Nintendo threads never disappoint with some good old fanboy battles. Love it.

Anyway, I think a score between 70 - 80 is good. It's not GOY material, but something that's worth your time.

The problem is people build up Nintendo and expect every one of their games to be 95+ bangers. That's just unrealistic.

Both sides can be just as bad to be honest.

Oh yeah, I was referring to fanboys in general.

Although, it is very entertaining. I think we should have a dedicated fanboy thread where they can just unleash at each other to their hearts content.

Basically System War section in gamespot forums with calling cows and lems or something?

If they pay reviewers = yes
If they stop making the same mistakes as Sony and Microsoft before them (e.g. avoiding risks and chasing stupid industry trends) = then yes
Otherwise = no

I have no idea what that is/was, but yeah, a thread where fanboys can go to town on each other. However, the rule is that is the only place for fanboy wars.

That way people can get it out of their system.

I don't know, and I can't say that I'll ever care about game scores beyond casual relevance to reviewers I watch. Just like with sales numbers, gamers love to go on and on and on about scores and Metacritic. I would never notice, much less make a decision based on, numbers that really don't speak to anything.

Would I view a game that scored 89 differently than a game that scored 91? Nope.
There are games that scored 68, like Ninja Blade, that I had a blast with. There are games that scored 97, like Breath of the Wild, that I can't stand.
If I have to assign a number to a game, I use a very simple 1-5 system.

At the end of the fiscal year, at least sales numbers give some indication of performance and popularity. Review scores and numbers had their place before the internet and social media since people relied on critics' to assess games for them. Nowadays you can just turn on a stream and watch the game for yourself. Besides, how can I even take a score seriously when the person giving it can't even pass the tutorial stage?

If Nintendo releases fun video games this year, I will play them because I can see for myself that they are fun. I don't care who labels them with numbers, and I don't care what Nintendo's 2026 review scores look like across the board. Play games, not brands and sales.

Gaf tried that, several times. Thread never took off like it does to just troll in other threads.

A mere 6 pages in 6 years.

Honestly, who cares?

And furthermore, who looks at the Metacritic score of a Mario tennis game or a musou game to decide whether to buy it?

People who never intend to buy the games anyway.

Op is a known troll and wants to act as if Nintendo didn't have a 91 meta score game last year.

I've mentioned this a few times but it seems like Nintendo has lost the sauce. Their games have been consistently disappointing since they launched the Switch 2 (to be honest since before then, after 2023 they've been pretty meh)

Every game they release since Bananza has been disappointing and scored low. Today's Mario Tennis reviews are not only sub-80, they're sub-70

Pokemon Legends ZA 78
Kirby Air Riders 79
Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment 78
Metroid Prime 4 78
Mario Tennis Fever 67

This is allegedly the best developer on the planet, as much as their business decisions suck their games have always been great. That's the exchange with Nintendo, the excuse their fanboys give. But here we are with a multiple month long dry spell (honestly closer to 3 years but I'll be kind).

Do we think this finally changes this year? Will Nintendo finally have a game cross 80 on Metacritic this year? Say what you will about Sony but even when their lineup has been disappointing at least they've been able to deliver good games when they do come out. What the fuck is Nintendo doing
