Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

but it's not fair to call it random cgi, they can still use assets they'll be using in the game etc.
And that still means nothing.... High quality assets and animations are nothing special anymore in limited scenarios such as in this trailer. Without the Black-Myth title no one would give this even a second look..

When we see real time gameplay that even remotely approaches this quality ..then we can start glacing.

Next gen with full high geometry pipelines and full raytracing or path tracing, this graphics will very possible
I think nd or any studios good with cutscene could reach this level in this gen tbh.

When you say nextgen i guess you mean real time\ingame?

Like on rdr3 you walk the street and you can see this chick cooking? Jesus i would hope so but maybe it is too much...

I think that only games with super budgets are gonna reach that level ingame, like an rdr3\tlou3.
Add to them Cyperpunk 2 and uncharted 5, also I think zhong kui will have far bigger budget than wukong so they may reach this quality on gameplay, that said I really have great expectations for Cory game graphics even it will end as cross gen title

After gow2018 and especially ragnarock, i have no expectations for corey new game when it comes to graphic, ngl.
 
They made 1 game thats not soulslike, more like Nioh/Sekiro…Whats to chill about? Nowday every game that is difficult is soulslike?
That non soulslike game sold over 25 million copies, nominated on many categories and win best action game at TGA , that the reason for them to chill, lol

You misunderstand. I'm saying the opposite. The whole studio released 1 game in its entire life....what's to chill about? I was responding the the previous message.
And even if it was soulslike. It's their first game, they should throw away all the features and mechanics they worked on and changed genre just because? They have the pipeline in order to go with the same genre...

After gow2018 and especially ragnarock, i have no expectations for corey new game when it comes to graphic, ngl.

This an insane take. Both GOW games still look better than 95% of AAA games. Both games were built on and released on PS4. Outside of RDR2 and TLOU2, I can't think of a better looking PS4 generation games than GOW. Corey's new game will be PS5 exclusive. No reason to think it won't look phenomenal

you really think GOW & GOWR don't cut the mustard when it comes to graphics especially considering the hardware they are running on... really? they are phenomenal looking games, my kid just finished platinumed GOWR and i was constantly in awe at some of the vistas and details within that game

Good for you, the common opinion is that ragnarock was a tepid attempt and we know how good crossgen games can look tanks to fw, it was still a decent\good looking game but hardly impressive.

About gow2018, it was a great looking game, like days gone, sushima, spiderman, tlou2, or horizon1 and many other third parties that look as good or better.
If you think gow18 looks better than something like guardians of the galaxy or even shadow of the tomb raider, i have a bridge to sell.

So after ragnarock and sony effort for this gen, sorry if i'm not the most optimistic when it comes to future santa monica projects.

It is gonna be a great looking game? Sure
But We already have a shitload of great looking games, sony first party should aim for excellence, i'm not gonna be impressed if the game is only gonna look great, hell sushima 2 can look great in the right conditions and we trashed that game to death.

Happy to eat crow of course, ragnarock was my goty that year so if they can have top tier graphic in theor next game i'm gonna be super happy.

Do you wanna know why i particularly laugh at his take? Because dude constantly shit on ue5 but think ragnarock is something special, you can't write this shit up in here and expect not be laughed at.

It might have eluded you that the 2nd game released well into the PS5 gen and basically didn`t improve upon its PS4 predecessor at all despite being crossgen. Even at release it was absolutely outclassed by other crossgen games like HFW or even AA games like Plague Tale f.e.

i think Sony Santa Monica & ND will knock it out of the park with their next PS5 exclusive games, im replaying TLOU2 at the moment and it still blows me away with how good looking it can be but for me its the animation and facial work that simply elevates those two studios games above all else, sure the vistas look amazing, the levels and detail all look incredible but man, the cutscenes and acting are just a whole other tier above everyone else
I´ll give you animation and facial Mocap, that`s simply what ND excels at, everything else though really looks old by now.

ND is the point of the spear of sony studios, my residual trust is in them, guerilla (for obvious reasons) and bend because they have been mismanaged as hell but days gone was an incredibly promising first attempt.

Everyone else need to work hard to regain my trust.

Agreed,i was watching someone playing g.o.w Valhalla on a base ps5 and thought the character models looked fantastic…

This right here. I understand the optimism surrounding SSM and ND's next game, but they are all based on last gen games. Or to be precise, they are all based on prior work done in 2018 and 2020, literally 6-8 years ago.

The last 5+ years of Sony exclusives paint a different picture. Native 4k 30 fps, 1440p 60 fps targets. Little to no ray tracing. No fancy mesh shader support. Nothing even remotely close to nanite. All because they have to adhere to native 4k 30 fps targets which leave very little room for a graphics push beyond what was possible last gen.

Expecting ND to suddenly shift to 1440p 30 fps after they released a native 4k 60 fps trailer is just hopeful. Not realistic. I too am optimistic that they trailer was basically something they cobbled together for the VGA and the real game is something completely different, but when Kojima, Sucker Punch, Insomniac, Bluepoint, GG, SSM and ND all go with native 4k 30 fps targets for the first five years of this gen then there is clearly a mandate from the higher ups at Sony.

Can they make good looking games with a native 4k 30 fps target? Sure, aside from DS2, i think all Sony games released this gen look great by cross gen standards. I would just caution people who are expecting SSM and ND to completely change their approach at the tail end of the generation.

P.S Wolverine is the one exception. Insomniac has finally ditched native 4k and the latest gameplay trailer was running at 1440p 30 fps. So there is hope, but Insomniac has been the one studio thats embraced ray tracing and utilized the IO while the rest just sat there jerking each other off. They could just be the exception to the rule.
 
Here's hoping the new Wolverine footage actually gets close to the HB2 quality the leaked docs said they were targeting. Sony needs a graphical win this gen aside from Demons Souls.

We've already seen the gameplay footage. it looks good but not that good. HB2 is like the order of this generation. You will need a very closed off game like the order or Detroit. Wolverine isnt open world but it has much bigger areas you can explore.

The art style is also very cartoony. It was never going to approach the photorealistic HB2. Maybe in cutscenes?

Definitely an upgrade over the cross gen looking spiderman 2 though. I think they are finally say that they can compete with top tier games like Avatar, outlaws, AC shadows, Jedi Survivor, Callisto, Alan Wake 2, Silent Hill 2 and Wukong.

Cant really upgrade much more from this. The PS5 Pro version might have a few more ray tracing features like they did with the Spiderman 2 pro update. IIRC, they had rt shadows, rt AO and a slightly more advanced SSGI solution. Not a big leap but I think it looks better. Only limited to the 30 fps version though.
 
You could have posted yotei and panderman instead of a crossgen that punch way above its weight or rift apart that at times look better than any other sony game this gen dude...
i couldve. i still havent played yotei and i dont have any bad screenshots of spiderman 2. And im too lazy to google.

i just find it hilarious that people think making a PS5 exclusive game somehow means we will get a next gen looking game. Like we are in the 6th year of this gen. Can we stop with this buffoonery.
