DMC 6 will be announced either this year or during an upcoming State of Play

But Sony publishes more new games than Capcom every year.
Even Konami that apparently abandoned console gaming has published more new games than Capcom this generation lol.

Do they? it doesn't feel like it

Already? Meh. Itsuno fans still deserve Dragon's Dogma 2 DLC first, before another DMC. Come on, Capcom. Get it together, baby.

Capcom should just rename itself Resident Evil Company at this point because of all they seem to fucking care about.

New console games (including remakes, but not ports/remasters/collections) since November 2020:

2020-2021:
Capcom: 4
KDE: 8
SIE: 7

2022:
Capcom: 0
KDE: 4
SIE: 5

2023:
Capcom: 3
KDE: 4
SIE: 4

2024:
Capcom: 3
KDE: 5
SIE: 8

2025:
Capcom: 1
KDE: 7
SIE: 5

2026:
Capcom: 4 (for now)
KDE: 5 (for now)
SIE: 7 (for now)

There is literally no year this generation where Capcom has published more new console games than both Sony and Konami (and they almost never release mobile and/or PC exclusives, so don't go there).

Are you sure that list is correct? It says Capcom did not publish a game in 2022, but Capcom Fighting Collection was released that year and published by Capcom.

Edit. Just read the first part. Why not include collections and remakes?

How fucking big is Capcom now? The pace of their output is insane
Capcom is divided into several "divisions", which each are a master of several IP, then those divisions are divided into departments which develop the games; this allows them to make an RE sequel and remake, same division, different departments, and new stuff (different division) and street fighter (different division) all at the same time.

5 is already a great comeback.
RE7 was after 6, the worst mainline RE.
DMC5 was after DMC reboot, maybe the worst DMC too.
The series just feels like more of the same been there done that. That's what I mean by needing new life. RE7 was a rebirth of the series. I don't see that at all with DMC5.

I would love for them to give us one with a more gothic/serious tone. DMC2 Dante is still a great design.
After that they can go all crazy again.
I understand Dante is a wise ass but I wouldn't mind a game with a little less cheese.

I would love a DMC6 but the franchise needs a bit of a revamp IMO.

DMC5 was gorgeous, mechanically strong but a bit of a wet blanket in terms of story and the world/levels/env.

I think they need to revamp the game, and could go a long way by aping the world structure of DMC1 and NG1, being a bit more metroidvania-like in structure.

Move away from fixed camera angles, to a fully 3D free-can model. Riff HEAVILY off ZZZ in terms of action combat for the kind of combat beats I'd like to see. The mechanical depth in that game is second to none; combat is slick and stylish and makes great use of parries, counters and big flashy specials. I could totally see DMC working with that type of combat flow.

Then move the story on. Nero was great in 4 but sucked in 5. Bring in a new main and take the series back to Japanese sensibilities. We don't need chud-faced Western Nero or Sam Lake-looking Dante like in DMCV.

Finally, this series never really had much narrative depth. You've really leaned into building that put for RE. It's about time to try to do the same for DMC IMHO.

Capcom do need to find better writers though. Their modern game writing really sucks. It's like it's written for 10 yr olds.

Maybe go hire some Shounen writers and give them some breathing room to do something meaningful with your franchise.

I honestly don't know how this franchise survived the absolute disgusting POS that was DMC2, I completed the game and swore never touching another one because I felt disgusted by it, lmao
Then DMC3 came out and tried so hard to be like the first game but 10x over the top I was completely out, I know I'm in the minority but DMC2 killed the franchise for me
Imagine hanging on DMC2 and not liking 3 without even touching. This is the most hilarious post I have seen in ages.

The timing feels about right. I didn't care for DMC5 much or rather playing as V and the monotonous environment design in the second half of the game. I wonder what direction they'll take 6 in.

- New MonHun Stories
- New Resident Evil
- New Onimoosher (!)
- SF6 ongoing support
- Pragmata
- New Mega Man (!)
- Various collections of old games
- and now potentially new DmC

I don't like how you chose not to capitalize that "m" in DMC.

I have more hope in DMC than NG at this point.

Man, what a piece of shit NG4 was - literally a wet fart of a "one and done" game, left me so cold and indifferent that I uninstalled it as soon as I finished it.
Judging by the OT, only senpai Miku and the other Brazilian fella liked it...

Both Silent hill f and NG4 were the biggest disappointments of 2025 for me, the NG franchise is beyond redemption at this point.

I have like the exact opposite opinion. NG4 was really good but there was signs it was "incomplete". Many people are upset about how Ryu was treated, but overall most people agree the gameplay is excellent. The DLC will hopefully make Ryu a bit more interesting and add in some much needed post game challenge content (eg. mission mode rather than those trials with modifiers). I could not put NG4 down with how well it played, going back to NG2 Black felt like "We have Ninja Gaiden 4 at home".

As for DMC. I recently replayed 4 Special Edition. The backtracking is horrendous but overall the game could have been fantastic had they carried out their vision and actually made damn levels and bosses for Dante. Trish and lady were kinda fun, and Lady's moves were kinda rolled into DMC5. There are some really annoying enemies in DMC4, and every character needs a way to deal with them.

With DMC5, that game is beautiful. The RE engine is just on another level and holds up really well. I am replaying it right now. I think the problem with DMC5 is it lacks focus. It tries to cram a bunch of new things for the sake of innovation but betrays the DMC feel a bit too much. In contrast, NG4 expanded what the series was about much better with the meter and gleam/bloodraven, counter system, and dodge offset, they even made NG a bit closer to DMC in that you can style on enemies but also kill efficiently. DMC5 added the devil breaker system, which just ends up being annoying inventory management, and not being able to switch between them and learning how to integrate them into gameplay, it seems it's just easier to play without them save for a few scenarios. Once you get the devil bringer I just use that exclusively, it's basically DMC4 Nero but they've added some new interesting moves.

DMC5 Dante is fun and seems more accessible than DMC4 Dante, probably because bosses / enemies were designed around Nero in 4. Overall still very fun and quite technical and my favorite Dante iteration. Same with Vergil, solid and fun character to use. Overall decent enemy variety (~20) and good enough bosses.

Where the game is an absolute travesty is V (is it DMCV after all). I like him for the story, and the overall story in 5 is fine, it's enjoyable enough to give you a reason to keep moving. But V's gameplay is just too different from DMC. For a game all about precise move timing and control, using a puppet master with fickle pets is the last thing you'd want to do. They could have easily had him transform into those guys for more controlled attacks (Bayonetta style) and retain that tight sense of control. In comparison, I thought Lady in DMC4 was a big departure from the DMC4 formula (and optional!), but it kinda worked. V is on another level of blah.

Then replayability wise, I am still forced to play as V on higher difficulties (NG4 let's you choose though arguably with Yakumo eventually getting the dark dragon blade, choosing Ryu feels a bit redundant save for his magic, but the DLC will help address this). The other negatives with DMC5 are the largely sterile environments, and no interesting pacing breaks to break up the action (DMC4 actually had some interesting puzzles and intricate secret missions). I really felt they needed to retain that gothic cathedral feel of the series with knights, special Orders, demons, satanic rituals, weave some religious themes into it, more like DMC4. Instead they did a tree/bug theme which felt a bit lame.

This makes me wonder what they will do for 6. In 5 they tried to innovate by adding new systems because Dante and Nero were already fairly fleshed out, and personally the breaker system is kinda lame and adding V was a misstep. I think same thing happened with NG3, they just didn't know what to do with it, and tried to change it for the sake of innovating. I think that's what impresses me about NG4, comparing it to NG2, they took some really big risks and changed it up significantly. Same with DmC, they did it because they probably realized they can't remake the same thing again. So with 6, they could do new environments, new weapons for Dante, and maybe even add "Styles" to Nero's devil bringer (would have been better than the breaker system), perhaps playable Lady, new enemies but without a major change of systems I don't see it being a big success, kinda more of the same.

Personally I think they should re-make DMC3 as an origins story and have story perspectives from both Dante and Vergil's POV (ie. vergil would be a proper playable character, not some DLC thing afterward). Make a tight game around their fighting styles and let people catch up on the story and for veterans there's a lot of nostalgia there. Basically if DMC6 risks being a remake, just do a proper remake of 3 and I think people will love it (also you could do it rather quickly given the story and designs already exist, just need to add a bunch of content to Vergil's side).

I liked DMC5 for the most part, loved all main characters and side characters…except for V. I didn't like playing as him much. Let us play one of the girls next time. No shitty "new" character that goes against the games gameplay vibe. Semi hyped for 6. But will wait and see how the game pans out before I buy.

Guys this is a guess. Yes he literally said صدقني which is believe me/trust me.

If true, I'm more interested to find out who the new director will be.

Itsuno left.
Didn't they also cut all the ties with Reuben Langdon, Dante's actor? At least I remember him mentioning it in an interview. And that alone would make me extremely skeptical about whether the quality of DMC5 can be maintained...

I hope you guys are ready to find out that either Dante or Vergil had a daughter and you will be playing with her.

They still have Drew Combs (DMC 1 Dante), Tim Phillips (DmC Dante) and Matthew Kaminsky (DMC 2, SMT Nocturne Dante).

I guess I'm not as attached to Reuben as everyone else because I always imagined an older Dante to sound more like DMC 1 Dante:

I did play some of it and didn't like it, sorry the game you love is not loved by everyone, happens with all the games, don't see how that's hilarious, I love BF and you don't see me bitching at people who play COD and don't like BF 🤷‍♂️

This is not true at all. They are making and releasing a new IP Pragmata in April this year. A new Mosnter Hunter Stories is coming next month and then there is the Onimusha reboot releasing this year. New Mega Man game next year. And Okami 2 is in the making. What are you talking about?

Holy shit. That reminds me I need to start with these games. Years ago I bought V but didn't play it. For the story and characters and just in general I want to start with the first one. I have them all.

The first one is quite challenging isn't it, quite old school?

Dude I haven't played DMC since DMC 4. Was 5 good?
DMC 5 is very good, a lot of thought were put into the combat mechanics.
Story is dumb as usual but the game in itself is very fun to play.

Im sure you can find it for less than 20$, and it would already be worth it for 30$.

I doubt we going to see anything new from Capcom tbh. They have 4 games coming just this year with RE9, MH Stories 3, Pragmata, and Onimusha. I bet most we will see from them is about this 4 and maybe a teaser to Wilds Expansion.

They never giving Dragon's Dogma another chance.

DD2 DLC not happening is a travesty. Might as well have not even made the game if it never gets its Dark Arisen.

I understand the man had one chance to make his last game but he should have finished his penultimate one first, or Capcom should have taken up the mantle, instead we have wasted potential. The game is 80% there and could have been so great with a proper DLC. It was on the exact road as DD1 and that turned out magnificent after DLC1 but here we buyers getting screwed. The DLC was always the promise of this game.

Unfortunately i thought 5 was kinda meh
I never once felt threatened since it handed out gold orbs like candy. Dante's stick is getting a bit tiring, Nero felt more Mary-suish than ever and the Vergil Retcon made no sense.

Hopefully the next will be better.

Title doesn't really match the source.

"Believe me, the announcement will be this year, probably at the next Sony event."

Will be this year probably at state of play isn't the same as "either this year or state of play"

It's frustrating, because even after the relatively great success Dragon's Dogma 2 was, the higher ups acknowledged it as a "pillar standing right next to Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and Monster Hunter"... But now I just see it as lip service. Feels bad, man.

This 100%
I really hope it will be an expanded DMC 3 remake with free-style Dante and specific Vergil missions
They can even use Lady as a DLC character.

i'm gonna say it again

"inshallah btw"

So that was a fucking lie
Just because it wasn't announced at this State of Play does not mean it was a lie....It was being said this YEAR and hello....this year just started and we are about to be 2 months in. There are plenty of more State of Plays and game events to go. Will most likely maybe appear at Summer Game Fest or VGA or Tokyo Game Show and Capcom even themselves confirmed that a new Devil May Cry is coming 2 months ago, they just did not specify what type of a game it will be.

I am disappoint but I expected as much. At least we have some Legacy of Kain goodness coming out.
