PS5 Pro is getting PSSR 2.0 between January and March 2026

I've just woken up in the UK and was hoping for some good news.
Oh. I see where your reasoning failed right here. Go change the Prime Minister or something.

Anyway if you already took the L of playing it with FSR1 (and playing an Uber Eats simulator from a former videogame genius), why would a DS2 with PSSR2 be any change for you? Just for another run?

Im currently around 160 hours in and on Chapter 8. I love the game. Just the pro version is all fizzly and weird when its raining on foliage and lights etc, hoping they add PSSR 2.0.

Ill just start again on PC and sell the PS5 version I suppose.

I just started the game, in the dessert and the foliage looks great. Are you sure you are playing? Or watching some low bitrate footage from YouTube?

EDIT: I just tested low power mode and visually is identical to performance mode, and we know low power mode can't use PSSR. So if you are having problems it's not because this game is using PSSR (it's not using)

I thought those issues were clarified there are present even without PSSR but automatically for the usual suspects it's always PSSR the cause...people have tried to play on base ps5? Guess it's the only way to see if it's really PSSR the cause.

In the first area (dessert) I can't see those issues people are talking about, in fact the game looks sharper than Death Stranding with 4k native resolution. I wonder if the issues are in other areas or it's a bug for some people

Low power mode can't use PSSR, they have the same settings on PS5 and Pro for that mode

EDIT: also this game don't have the typical grain like noise PSSR have

If it's not present on base ps5 probably it's PSSR. Someone should try both.

Yes bright sunlight looks good. Wait until it rains and it is dusk, night or early morning. now pan the camera slightly, or you dont even have to really. Look at foliage areas with grass. There are vast areas with lots of foliage. It looks really bad. loads of fizzle and distortion to the foliage and edges

This is all well documented, and it seems to be a pro issue but doesnt use PSSR so I have no idea whats going on.

Again we can have a comparison? Because the fact it happens only with the rain and dusk seems more tied to the lower buffer resolution of such effects than PSSR. Theorically should happen on ps5 base also and probably with a worst side effects as extremely aliased or jagged.

Death Stranding 2
on PS5 Pro exhibits noticeable foliage issues, primarily characterized by heavy shimmering, graininess, and noise, particularly in performance mode. These graphical bugs are often linked to the forced implementation of PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution), causing distracting artifacts on leaves, grass, and trees.

Key Foliage and Graphical Issues on PS5 Pro:
  • PSSR Artifacts: Players report significant shimmering and noise, especially on foliage, which appears to be tied to the PSSR upscale method implemented for performance mode.
  • Shimmering/Aliasing: The foliage and grass display intense shimmering, which is described as more noticeable in rainy conditions.
  • Darkening/Shadowing: Some users report that foliage, trees, and ground textures darken or change brightness when moving the camera.
  • Persistence: These issues persist across both performance and quality modes, often appearing as "ghosting" or "sharpness" on foliage and dark objects.

Context and Observations:
  • Comparisons: These issues seem unique to the PS5 Pro experience, with some players noting that the base PS5 version does not have the same level of distraction.
  • Version Discrepancy: Some users have observed that earlier versions of the game (e.g., 1.00) did not have these specific PSSR-related issues, suggesting they were introduced via updates.
  • Technical Review: Reports suggest that while the game is a "technical showpiece," there are known issues with, for example, ambient occlusion, leading to blotchiness around foliage.

I get told it doesn't use PSSR on here, but this is all I get when I search about it and loads of people reporting the same issues as me. Its the number 1 reason for wanting a PSSR update.

You said it happens only with the rain and dusk not all the time ...

thanks for the laugh thats a good one.

Fsr 4 is so good even ultra performance i playable on a 4k screen just Tested it in Cyberpunk. Pssr 2 is the same it just tartgets reolsution different not fixed like a pc.

Pro will get huge Fps boost, if Ultra perfromance gets viable. On a 4k Screen 3m away it looks pretty good and gives huge performance boost.

There's a reason AMD won't release the in8 version of FSR4. PSSR2 should look decently better but there'll be a performance hit.

It can happen all the time with foliage but it looks AWFUL in rain. Do you play the game at all? its a big Playstation game and these issues are EASY to see if you have a pro.

and its not just me saying it, its all over the internet.

Who cares.

Jump to the 13 minute mark and just listen to the summary, where its evident all these minor blemishes fail to impact in any meaningful way.

If this isn't good enough... you're kinda fucked! Because you'll find very few better looking games on console.

The same reason there is no FG from nvidia on RTX 3000. Yet Nvidia released dlss 4.5 for all RTX Cards, under RTX 4000 i wouldnt use it tho. Weird how inconsistent they are with their stuff.

I have no idea what the pro is using lmao, it was here I was told it isnt PSSR. I just used AI to search for you guys. I'll guess Ill wait for the Digital Foundry vs the PC version and you guys will then see.

I am just asking about a PSSR update in the PSSR update thread and stating why I want one. What are you guys doing here?

You had played for 160 hours with no problem at all, then you saw a thread here from Reddit someone claiming the game looks bad after the last patch with the conspiracy of they implementing PSSR, then you start to complaining about the bad IQ you didn't bother for 160 hours, now you use the same footage several channels said looks great as proof they are using PSSR or some different (maybe the same thing they are using on horizon west)

Sounds like you hate so much PSSR when you realized maybe they are using here, you can't play anymore 😂

I don't see any difference between launch day and now. I don't believe they're using PSSR, and no reason to "stealth update". There was an update for low power mode, but I believe it can't run PSSR in that mode.

There's benefits for linking PS Account to DS2, but I am not sure cross save is one of them (player profile?):

Account for PlayStation Connection Bonuses

Sign in with your account for PlayStation to gain access to the PlayStation overlay to earn PlayStation Trophies, access your Friends lists, settings and player profile. Porters who connect their account also get unique in-game design patches for backpack customization and an exclusive suit inspired by the PlayStation logo.

Bro, what the actual fuck are you talking about. Ive been complaining about this since I picked up the game.

Sounds like you are defending a multi billion dollar companies AI upscaler over general feedback of its short comings.

death stranding 2 is an incredible game. Let me make that clear.

Thanks for this. Sony needs to sort their cross save system out for these pc ports but that's for another thread.

Hard to say if that is PSSR or not. Need a base PS5 to compare to confirm. Does seem PSSR like, but it could be they broke something else.

Pointing out the criticisms you raise, whilst I'm not disputing their veracity, are in my view being massively overblown in terms of overall impact.

Also the constant blaming of PSSR for every imaginable form of visual imperfection has gotten very tiresome to me. Its not like every game that uses a different solution is flawless!

The reality is that even if the new version of PSSR is a huge improvement, it won't be perfect and assuredly every implementation won't be perfect either - because the upscaler isn't the totality of the visual output.

Hey, I completely agree with you. The game looks amazing on PS pro outside of the issues I and others are having.

I have been hoping for an update for the game so the foliage looks better. Fingers crossed.

apparently there's similar stuff on base PS5

Thats not the issue thats been caused since December 2025 though, it seems. Looking at the videos there was an update that has fubared the foliage sadly. I dont know if its pssr or something else, I just hope it gets fixed.

I'd love to believe it, but wouldn't we have had a software update by now for the PSSR update prior to release?

Edit: Purple guys say that potential PSSR iterations are being delivered through the games themselves. And maybe RE9 is doing that. Therefore it doesn't require an update or anything at the system level.

There was a firmware update last week and there is a beta one going on now til the end of April.

They could be trickling out in a few games and the final 2.0 build could possibly be in May when the beta firmware goes live. They won't advertise it in a public beta either.

Wouldn't it be added on the SDK end ?

It was odd that John Linnerman literally never mentioned the words PSSR in that video of RE9. Odd......what's up with that?

yup, didn't try to guess, didn't try to look for the usual PSSR issues. Maybe they have an embargo until tomorrow which is the actual release date.

Ikr. Usually they make a point to say if it's in and how it is running on that game. Even if it's as crap as Monster Hunters implementation where it was like AA or something.

If RE9 is truly a first look at PSSR 2.0 in action, we are eating good. Can't help but wonder if this also leads to a 60 FPS GTA 6 at launch on the Pro.

It would be one of the best games this year to display PSSR 2.0 on also. And even better to sneak it out there like this, without 6 weeks of hype. Quiet as kept.....Sony did the same thing with Ghost of Yotei. The game released with RTGI and they literally told nobody before release.
