• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

What game are you currently playing?

I'm having some serious ADHD with what I'm playing. Just too many game purchases from me lately.

I'm actively playing the following:

Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Final Fantasy VII Remake
NBA2K26
Red Dead Redemption Remaster
Hades II

All those on my Switch 2. And I just purchased Assassin's Creed Shadows and High on Life as well.

And then I see the MGS Collection got updated, so I might redownload those this weekend too.

I normally play AAA titles, but there was some buzz going around last year about a little indie French game called Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, so I thought I would try it out. And, yes, I can confirm that it's amazingly good. I can definitely see some Persona influence in its overall gameplay design, but it takes it a step further and refines it to perfection. The story, on the other hand, can get a bit convoluted (especially, towards the end). Besides that, the graphics, gameplay, and music are top-notch.

Nioh 3

I'm into the last area, I think. Certainly feels like it's coming to and. I think I would put this on a similar level to Nioh 2. Absolutely loved every moment. Not sure if I'll jump straight into new game + or take a break and play something else.

The Strange Lights

Completed
Rating:
6/10
Genre: Horror (walking sim)
Another of those noisy/fuzzy indie horror walking sims. I liked the setting (forest) and that it had aliens instead of the usual paranormal stuff, but it was too short at less than thirty minutes and there was absolutely nothing to find or read really.

Decided to play all No More Heroes games before starting Romeo is a Dead Man. I played most other Suda51 games but skipped these ones, so it's time to remedy that.

I basically finished NMH1, I was expecting some kind of twist but the ending is basically Suda51 going "bro, it's just a videogame". The game has a certain charm and style to it, the bosses are the stars of the show for sure. The dialogues in general were so stupid and corny, I loved it. The gameplay was nothing to write home about, I guess it was really made with the Wiimote in mind, probably half the fun is physically doing the QTEs. Next is NMH2.

A few things right now:

Dying Light The Beast - Xbox Series X
Arknights Endfield - PS5
Wicked Seed - PC/Steam

And every night before bed I play a round of Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel

Since I beat Diablo a few days ago I've been stricken by the ARPG itch, so I'm now playing Titan Quest on my Steam Deck.

It plays great, specially since I'm rolling an unga-bunga melee class that doesn't require a lot of precision. Runs perfect with everything maxed out and so far (must be at the half-way point of the first act) the game has been a joy to play: the combat is fun, the loot is cool and interesting enough to keep me engaged with my build.

The star of the show for me is the setting: I love the ancient greek mythos and this game is overflowing with that and the mediterranean vibe. Loving it.

About 2/3 done with Final Fantasy 16. Just finished the part where you do fetch quests for Mid to build ship engine. What a fucking slog. Who the hell at Square thought this is fun?
Worst part was the game hanged on my ps5, told myself I would drop the game if I restarted the game and my progress was all lost. It turns out there was some autosave.

Anyway, it's too much of a slog to push through, cos now I am going into a new town and looks like even more fetch quest so I ejected the disc from my ps5 and just started DQ7 reimagined. I need a break from that damn game. At this point, I am just pushing myself to finish FF16 since it looks like I am quite close to finishing it.

Blade Chimera - I started it a couple months back and shelved it because I was distracted by other games at the time. I went back to it and it's really good. Not a Hollow Knight tier Metroidvania and definitely has some shortcomings being a lower budget title, but I'm enjoying it a lot. I like the diversity in combat between long and short range weapons. The platforming is cool. Recommended.

Love Titan Quest. Many good LAN memories.

Played through some 3D Mario World... I'm somewhere in world 4 now. I haven't played this before. I was a little worried that its 1-4 player design wouldn't hit as hard in single player, but the level design is great. Some of the courses are super short, but I dunno if I care.

I played some MGS1 because all the footage of collections lately got me wet. I'm up to the scientist guy (octagon?) that pisses himself. This game is so fucking cinematic, and amazing at telling the story. I'm looking at super low poly models, in low res, and crazy low texture detail. Something about the characters, writing, and the way the camera pans across the screen is just so good. I love opening credits. God damn if the codec conversations aren't long though.

I also ran some Hades2 runs. I'm past the credits and just cranking vows up for each weapon. I'm at 12 now and things are getting hairy. I love that some of the trinkets reward you for having no build plan... and others are permanent for the night if you equip just once. I'm using a different weapon/build every run and love being suprised by my power sometimes. Really smart design to encourage you to use weapons you aren't super good at.

Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo was on sale via the eShop for $4.99. It has really solid reviews so I gave it a whirl and got all the endings. It's pretty solid until the last 3rd and kind of loses its' way. I also disliked how the game handled additional notes about characters, locations, and the curses themselves. It just felt cumbersome going back-and-forth so much. I think I've come to the realization that I don't like visuals novels all that much outside of Ace Attorney which typically have more adventure game elements to them.

Seemed like an atmospheric VN and for $5 hard to go wrong. I picked it up on sale, will probably play it leading up to Halloween.

More Thrones of Britannia. I've taken over a bit more than half of Ireland and got it all built up but now other Vikings with armoured archers are messing up my peasant archers. Time to start upgrading them and probably build a third army, too.

Always glad to see someone enjoy a classic like Titan Quest!
I've been playing the original since 2007 and I have recently completed the last achievements in the Anniversary Edition on Steam, so if you have any question or need some advice, feel free to ask!

Just finished Wuchang: Fallen Feathers and Dipatch, both great games.

Currently playing:
  1. Persona 5 Royal
  2. Finishing up Bard's Tale 4 (my last save file was from almost 3 years ago lol)
After that, will probably be Solasta: Crown of the Magister and more Unicorn Overlord.

P5 Royal is great. One of the best games, if not the best I played and finished last year. I usually take a break in between games cos I have gaming adhd, but that game hooked me from start to finish.

Yeah I feel you on that. I played Persona 5 at launch and loved every second of it. Hearing "Last Surprise" again after all these years:

Finished Mario Wonder. Couldn't help thinking there would be "more".. special world felt really short and small compared to some others - especially on the heels of just playing 3D World which had a massive post game offering.

I feel like numerically there may be more levels per world in Wonder, but not in reality. Many are small or quick Badge challenges or whatever. Some of those are good, most are not. The Demon Souls style multiplayer is somewhat interesting.

I like the novelty of the game, but can't believe 2 worlds don't even have boss/final levels. The game feels oddly rushed or incomplete. I will say the mechanical movement is very nice, Mario feels good. Fussy I couldn't play as Yoshi since he's limited to a no damage character (why are there so many of those..?), but it's ok.

Good game in the end, but not sure I will revisit this game anytime soon.

There's an expansion and update for it coming out on Switch 2. Though at this point I have lost interest in it after finishing the game 2 years ago

Hey thanks! Well I do have a question, how are the DLCs? I have the base game and IT, but I wonder how the other ones are.

Finished Inside. After playing the demo of Darwins Paradox I went back to Inside, which by now is seen as probably the best game in this particular genre of adventure games. And it holds up. It's very bizarre, very scary with an oppressive atmosphere that grips you from the very start. I still can't really wrap my head around the story or what takes place, but it is fascinating to watch everything unfold. There is no dialogue, no cut scenes or anything that explains what's going on. Inside is the very definition of "show, don't tell" and everything is up for interpretation. It's a remarkable game that leaves you wondering what it's all about. A bit pretentious maybe, but I like it. There is quite nothing like Inside out in the gaming sphere.

Tried out Wario World, made it through the first couple worlds and can appreciate some of the things the game tried to do, but it's just too janky and repetitive to stick with. Glad I tried it on NSO instead of trying to buy it (quite expensive, even for a Gamecube game).

Also been playing through Jusant at night before bed. I like it a lot - Ico/SotC vibes while exploring, a simple and fun climbing system, and good art and music. 66% through according to the title card, which is nice that it's not going to overstay its welcome.

I always get excited when someone talks about Titan Quest. Had the best time in my teens playing it with friends of mine while we dreamed of Diablo 3 (which eventually disappointed). I really hope the Titan Quest 2 team are able to make something suitably fun, epic, and janky!

Currently playing Nioh 3 with what little time I can find but totally loving it. Also working my way through Rise of the Golden Idol with my girlfriend, a brilliant sequel in its own right.

Trying to finish ToTK, right before the last boss. There is too much farming involved; I miss the old Zeldas. Finished FE Engage and just started Valkyria Chronicles for the tenth time. This time I'll finish it.

I think I'm almost done with Lies of P.
Overall really enjoyed it, it's definitely one of the best non Fromsoft souls games.

I do find it a bit annoying though, that after a certain point almost every boss fight is a 2 phase fight with 2 full health bars.
I prefer multiphase souls bosses when they switch after you've taken half their HP instead of them having 2 full health

Nioh 3
Still running about in the last region. Still deciding if I'll play new game plus, but if I do, I am changing up my build a little bit. Think I might move away from a fire based build to wind or lightning.

Crisol: Theater of Idols
This is pretty interesting. Played about an hour. Spain setting is refreshing. The blood mechanic is certainly different, but everything else in the game play is pretty much standard fare for an FPS game; Weapon upgrades, item pick ups, and there's a shop where you can buy skills. The voice acting is pretty hammy.

Trying to finish Ocarina of Time and Alan Wake 2 before Resident Evil 9.

OoT is a lot longer than I expected. I'm almost at the Water Temple but I'm trying to complete this one side quest first. The game is really impressive and worth all of the praise I've seen over the years. It's actually crazy what they achieved at the time with this, and on the N64 of all things.

Is this your first time playing OoT? It really does hold up even today. Visuals are fine with the art style, despite being primitive. Controls can be a little janky (climbing/jumping) but considering it was the first 3D Zelda, it has aged gracefully.

Also for anyone else looking to catch up on Resident Evil, there is an insane deal on almost the entire franchise on Steam right now for $40. I already own a bunch of the games on other platforms but being able to play any of these at max settings, with mod potential and ray tracing on the new games...omg.

After buying it on launch I am just now getting around to playing the latest release of Final Fantasy Tactics.

The QOL improvements make this a very fun replay for me. This will easily be a go filler title for the next year or 2.

Yes, the Zelda games are something I missed out on even though I'd always heard great things. I played Breath of the Wild a few years ago and loved it so I'm planning on going through Ocarina, Majoras Mask, Windwaker, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword overtime, don't wanna burn myself out.

When I first started OoT I wasn't sure what the hype was about but once it starts opening up after a few hours and you get a sense of the scale it quickly becomes impressive considering when it came out. The music, level design, storytelling, different tools and weapons, etc. It's a real joy to play.

Here's this weekend's rotation:

Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster (Switch 2): I've been playing this with my wife next to me and we're kind of co-playing my file together. Coming up with strategies together has been really fun.

Donkey Kong Bananza (Switch 2) - I've been playing this in doses as a stress reliever and it's really fun. There is just enough variety in levels to keep me coming back. Very fun game.

Elden Ring (Xbox Series X) - I already platinumed this on PS5. I bought it on Xbox to play with a friend years ago and decided to 100% the base game. I'm stuck on Placidusax and Malenia. It's hard to pick a favorite Miyazaki game, but this might be it for me.

Dragon Quest III Remake (Switch 2) - I'm at the Pyramid and got stumped looking for the key. I like to grind for like 20-30 minutes to chill, then take a break. I have come to really like the Dragon Quest series.

I'm sure that I'll catch a bit of grief. But, I just started playing Black Mesa for the first time. I'm really loving it, wish that I had played this long ago.

Final chapter in Ys: Lacrimosa of Dana. Valley of Kings is a great dungeon with a kick ass soundtrack to it. It really gets the juices flowing after a couple of tedious hours before it. I'm totally ready to clear this one out. It's a great game but doesn't really grab me like the first playthrough did a couple of years ago. It has a couple of sections that drag on, like Danas chapters, and the Raids are incredibly boring after just a couple of few. Otherwise it's a fantastic game. A real adventure that evokes that sense of mystery Ys is so good at providing. Love the cast too, excellent roster of characters here.

I'm there with you, one of the first games I played on my upgraded PC. I put it down a bit but am going to go back and finish soon. Level design is sublime.

I'd recommend getting all three if you enjoy the base game. They all have their strong and weak points, but all were pretty enjoyable.

Entirely optional, so I'll be starting with this one.

GORGEOUS scenery and environments.
Some pretty annoying enemies and overtuned bosses, but nothing insurmontable.
Adds basic Vitality-damage staffs (can be interesting depending on your build) and a new rare suffix that doesn't give the item any extra stats but makes it possible to add two charms/relics to it instead of only one. Unfortunately they only drop in Atlantis areas.
Adds a (pretty boring imho) arena-battle mode with various modifiers, and a new gambler NPC where you can purchase loot orbs.
No new Mastery, but introduces a new tier of skill by adding a new tier at the top of the skill trees (you can put 40 points instead of 32 in your masteries) with two new skills. Some are really good and can be build-enablers.

This one feels pretty amateurish at times, especially the voice acting, also some textures, and I hated how even in the North, people still call the gods by their Germanic names. Now that this is out of the way...
Rune is a pretty interesting Mastery, it adds the first actual damage conversion skill in the game (those things are everywhere in Grim Dawn though...).
Adds throwing weapons, which can be really strong.
Story is really basic and predictable (Loki manipulates everyone in order to start Ragnarok, who would've guessed?)
It has two of the most annoying areas in the entire games:
- one where everything and their grandma has damage reflection
- another one, a maze (like the one at the end of Greece, albeit with an actual minimap) with constructs that throw stunning lightning balls, golems that periodically take a stance where they have heavy damage reflection, and ghost mages that explode on death, eating your energy and dispelling all your buffs. Oh and none of these can be life-leeched, due to being ghosts or constructs. Also has random dopplgangers of yourself, which could one-shot you before you even noticed them depending on your build.

Still my favourite of the three.

I haven't played this one too much, only two playthroughs.
The new mastery is great, has lots of synergies with other classes (vitality or elemental damage, pets, resistance reductions...)
Adds new potions types that give a buff for 30s or so. Unfortunately, like the new suffix from Atlantis, it only drops in EE areas.
Adds some actual end-game areas, the Chaos Dungeons. They drop some great loot, including stat-reset potions, but they're really tough.
The DLC is HUGE. Some areas are pretty confusing, almost open-world, like in TQ2.
The new legendary equipment is insane, a clear cut above almost everything previously available... but some of the set pieces don't even drop unless you mod the game due to errors in the loot table. Don't know how easy that would be on the Deck?

It's only available in Legendary difficulty (except some of the Chaos dungeons - one in Normal and two in Epic, although I wouldn't advice going there too early) so you can take your time to decide whether you want it or not.

I've been on an SMT wild ride lately. Finished P3R. About 70% through P5R and playing Metaphor on the side though progress there is slow. I'm thinking about buying SMTV to jump into after that but I'm worried I might burn out.

I beat the first game in The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. That was wonderful :] . After I finish them all, it makes me want to play the Devil Summoner games on ps2 as well. The original games look super atmospheric, and sort of similar vibes.

Many thanks! I ended up getting Atlantis and Ragnarok for like 6 bucks haha. Sucks that Embers is only for Legendary, since I'm loving the game but I don't think I'll play through it three times.

Anyway, just beat the Minotaur last night and on my way to Act 2. Really enjoying it so far with the only complain that it's a little bit too easy so far, but I guess things will get spicier later on.

I'm playing SMTV:V now, 20 hours in. Really great game, my last Megaten was probably SMTIV more than 10 years ago.

I also started Dino Crisis from GOG - this shit needs patched, otherwise it's borderline unplayable.

Link's Awakening for the GBC. My son started playing the remake on the Switch and I thought I would join him playing the original. Amazing how well it holds up. Really enjoying myself. More then with Indiana Jones & The Great Circle on PS5 if I'm honest. It's such a breath of fresh air to be thrown into a game with minimal introduction and tutorials, and simple mechanics.

Finished No More Heroes 2. I feel like the first one was much better. Removing the hub and making the side jobs 2D games was a mistake, the game lost part of its charm this way. The bosses were way less memorable and the story was basically irrelevant here.

The gameplay feels better for sure, but the boss fights are too straightforward since enemies don't have invulnerability/hyperarmor. It's a bit of a miss.

Both NMH1 and 2 are extremely flawed, but I had my fun playing them. The stylized gore looks super cool, there is blood splattering everywhere but it doesn't feel too gruesome.

Travis Strikes Again is next, I expect something a bit more experimental with this one.
