High on Life 2, good so far

Are you playing on PC because on PS5 Pro it runs like crap and looks super blurry, plus there's a lot of virtual shadows that pop in and out of view for no reason. I wish they would've stuck to UE4 and baked lighting. It would've been way less distracting and actually look really sharp and run great too.

I'll give it a try on game pass, maybe later tonight.

CGI trailer looked good, but any game footage looked unimpressive and last gen-ish. Performance problems on high end machines makes this one an easy skip right now.

Put a couple hours into the game. It is very clever and I really do still enjoy the world they have created. The humor since everyone is talking about it, is just not as good as the first and that is okay with me. Just kinda wish there were more games like this.

Played through the first target hit and I gotta say....the reason I liked the first one more is because it didn't take itself seriously at all, all jokes were just taking a piss on game stereotypes, hell even Suit-O was breaking character mid game, you could hear the VO just laughing his ass off....the sequel makes everything more "serious" despite the jokes, they're not landing as in the first game.

I started another game after getting soft-locked in my first one about 10 hours in. I didn't even make it out of the zoo before running into another issue. Don't try to any do any exploring at all in this game. If you fall you will get teleported somewhere where you cannot get back to the happy path and will have to delete your save. 👎

Slop

I remember the first one having a bit of buzz around it. This one released and I had no idea.

I think I own the first one on PS5, but I have yet to play it.

yeah... I think I'll just not play this.
it's insane how you can release a game looking and running like this on consoles and PCs that are 10x more powerful than an Xbox One, while looking worse than most Xbox One games.

absolutely insane.

usually I'd just shit on UE5 here (and it's part of the reason it looks and runs like shit) but even for UE5 standards this is beyond abysmal. it's absolutely unfathomable to me how professional game developers these days can deliver something like this and it's not a pre-alpha build but actually a "finished" game.

and that's after I manually fixed some of the brain-dead shit they did through editing the config file. it would look even worse if I didn't do that...
DF is defending slop as usual and trying to downplay BF6 as not impressive by showing the worst parts of it cause it does not have lumen or RT.

Just came out today, anyone playing? I'm a couple hours in and having a blast. The first one is one of my favorite of the gen. They don't make single-player FPS like this anymore.

Graphics are great, it's genuinely technically impressive. They're milking UE5 pretty well here. The shaders and character models look great, environment is quite detailed. Gunplay is solid, the new skateboard traversal works pretty well… it takes the place of sprint. The maps have rails and other stuff you can grind on too. I'm about 2 hours in, past the title drop and at the new HQ. Feels so nice to play an FPS campaign like this again.

Is this a marketing post?

I'm about 10 hours in and around 75% complete based on what I know about what's ahead. So far it hasn't hit quite as good as the first game, however I'm still having fun and think that it's "unique" enough in 2026 to warrant a playthrough. I'll probably give it another go in a year or two, which I typically only do for games I really enjoy. However, I've so far encountered numerous bugs, particularly when you go to Wyoming to save your dad and when you are captured and sent to prison, that required reloads to advance.

I'm at the 3rd bounty, still good. The Senator boss fight (don't read if you ever intend on playing…
Going into the menus and other shit at the end… thah was great. I think the fight actually glitched on me before that, he stayed tiny so I had to use Gus and shoot at him for like 10 mins straight while he ran around. But yeah I wish more games did crazy shit like that

Anyway, I'm finding the humor to be pretty much the same. No Kenny but at least Tim Robinson (Creature) is back. Speaking of which, watch 'The Chair Company', one of the better shows on TV.

Stuck on the third bounty boss, the finance guy…

I get him halfway and he does a super attack that takes you down to 1 health. A gun warns you that you can distract him somehow but I don't know how. It charges in just a few seconds. Then even after skating and dodging you die with the 1 hp.
Doesn't seem to be any guides that mention this. Wild setting for this bounty too lol this game is insane in a good way

Right at the start with the talkshow if you don't sit down immediately you get additional dialog and when you sit down in the crowd instead of next to the host you get more dialogue. This is the type of stuff I love. First one had that too.

I love when games react to the player just standing around and not doing what is asked of them.

The image quality can be rough on console, well XSX in my case and clearly a lower resolution too. It can look soft, but thankfully reality creation on my tv can help a little with that. But I saw some pc footage from YouTuber Hollow and what a difference.

Really wish the dev had offered a quality mode too.

It's the sort of game that game journalists dislike, it's approach and humour rubs some people wrong, and the metacritic score is unfair because of it.

The amount of lines for each weapon is massive and superbly acted. The missions are crazy, it's quite impressive how much wild stuff they have put into the game.

The first game came out 3 years ago, so they have been busy, and I think they improved on it in most ways.

Edit: hotfix released and fixed these bugs

Yeah the amount of voice lines is crazy. Think about it, every single NPC interaction needs to be recorded like 5 times over depending on what gun you have out, it's nuts. They did a really good job with the voices and acting.

Anyone playing on a 5080 give me their settings I am not great at getting best out the settings and F Ai I prefer get a humans settings .

I just skimmed all 92 reviews

- not a single one mentions "lower quality/comedy", why lie? There's like 50 that say the exact opposite

- every single negative review is due to performance, stuttering or whatever PC issues. Not everyone seems to have them tho. Even the negative reviews say it's fun from what they were able to play. System requirements are high
i enjoyed it. There was a tech issue though. The game would not run in 4k with desktop scaling. I had to turn scaling off to play. Annoying as fuck, but easy to work around for the few sessions it took to beat.

It was fun and funny like the first. I hope there is a 3rd one.

FYI they released a hot fix yesterday that fixed the hard locks and some other bugs I mentioned earlier. Pretty fast fix, I was expecting it to take a couple weeks.

Just finished it....yeah this was way less fun and entertaining than the first one, it's a 6/10 for me in comparison with the first one which was a solid 8 for me. Most of the jokes didn't land, and I gotta say that final sequence is a pace killer. Visually pretty at times, but it did lose some of its charm the first one had.

I just spent 30 minutes signing papers in the bureau of drug control and the game freezes and quits on me

Currently I got my RTX 5080 running the game with:
Video settings
Fullscreen
Res 3840x2160
Frame limit 60
Sync enable
Graphic quality Very High
Upscale Dlss
Upscale mode quality
Frame gen off
Latency reduction off
Motion blur off
Climatic aberration off
Advanced settings everything very high

Finished it. 7/10.
It is not bad, but the technical state is pretty bad - I had four crashes in 17 hours played, incl. one lovely fatal error during final boss fight.
Framerate drops anytime there is the hologram dialogue on screen for no reason (GPU is bored, but fps still drops to 50s).
Audio is kinda messy, with multiple dialogues overlapping.
Squanch have bad understanding of restraint, so some parts just go for way too long to the point of boredom (the trial, final boss sequence, PS1 level..).
But overall I did enjoy it, some nice locations, decent gameplay, some really funny jokes (but also lot of dialogue is not that funny tbh).

One of my mates is an animator there, I should buy it to support him if nothing else, tho sounds like I should prob wait for a few patches to play it (plus I've just started requiem)

FYI this is a common UE4/5 issue where it can't detect actual res properly when using borderless window.
Can usually be fixed by switching to FS and sometimes it stays fixed if you switch back to B/L after that.
In case it doesn't and you want to play in B/L go into the game's EXE properties, Compatibility tab, Change high DPI setting button and check the "Override" checkbox there selecting "Application" in the drop down. This will disable Windows own scaling for the EXE and force it to use its own - which games lack usually meaning that they'll just run in 100% res.

Enjoying the game so far, good humor and probably the best 'getting drunk' sequence in a game since RDR2.

The IQ is really muddy tho, I really wish there was a 40fps option with a higher resolution.

I got a good chuckle out of all the Spencer's gift's jokes.

Been playing some more of this and here's some thoughts.

- I like the humor, it's probably an acquired taste and someone who liked the first will probably enjoy it
- The music is also good, synthy dub-steppy beats. Though the mission I'm doing right now has a music track that sounds suspiciously like it's lifted out of MGS1
- The zones did not need to be this big, I understand sequels need to do everything bigger but it really doesn't serve much of a purpose here for having such huge hubs/zones
- There's more gun variety but I don't find myself using the ones other than the default SMG type, unless it's needed for a puzzle
- Some really good jokes about things like Crazy Taxi, Disco Elysium etc in the game, it's rare to see a game poke fun at other games so frivolously
- The IQ, man, the IQ is pretty poor. A 40fps mode with higher resolutions would have fixed a good amount of my problem with how muddy the game looks

For damn sure. And if not possible I would even have accepted a optional 30fps. I know it's frowned upon, but I've been playing plenty of games lately in 30fps such as Dying Light The Beast and Borderlands 4, because the performance mode are just bullshit....IQ wise. I can't with that.

^ Agreed with you both. It does feel like they were a little too ambitious with the tech / UE5 features. Maybe toning them down a bit would have made it easier for these consoles to handle a higher res, but I don't fault them for shooting for the stars.

Overall, really enjoyed my time with the game. Ended up at just under 20 hours.

This game looks so ugly on my ps5 pro, good heavens. I will wait until pssr 2.0 and a bunch of patches to play this further since Crimson Desert is almost here anyway. I did enjoy the first one on gamepass during the short time I owned a series x.

For real! The first game didn't use UE5 and looked fantastic. Devs can use UE5 if they want, but you really don't NEED lumen and nanite to make a pretty game. Look at Until Dawn. That's a UE5 game but the image quality is NUTS (on PS5 Pro).
