NieR: Automata has sold over 10M copies worldwide | Nier Automata "to be continued" Square Enix teases

"NieR: Automata to be continued..." at the end of the PV.

It'll be another phone game since Square hates giving Taro money after Replicant didn't meet their unreasonable sales expectations.

I want to see Square have the balls to do a remake of Drakengard 1 with better visuals, way better combat, and not censoring the story. It'll never happen, but I can dream.

Automata didn't just sell copies; it changed how players think about the medium of video games. If the teaser leads to a new entry, the industry is in for something special.

The original game back in 2010, blew me away. And an awful lot of what Replicant was hailed for was present in the first version. And in some ways in an even more potent form.

I personally LOVE Automata but we don't need Automata 2…..to me the story wrapped up pretty nicely.

I don't mind new Nier or even better Drakengard 4.

The squandered potential is insane. The game will be 10 years old next year. What the hell are they doing...
Yeah it's nuts, they've been chasing having another big tentpole IP for years, they have a game sell 10 million copies and now no follow-up.
I doubt anyone but Yoko Taro is going to be making Nier games, and he's been making other things the last 10 years.

The franchise would definitely need to just die if he wasn't involved, the characters and story are 100% Taro.

It's not Nier without this special man and his special brain

NieR: Automata was my introduction to the series (only being vaguely aware of Drakengard long ago). I'm so glad it was successful, looking forward to more. Everyone should play Replicant as well.

What it won't be:
nier automata 2

What it will most likely be:
A concert
A stage play
A new novel

Next nier game will be nier 4. Or Drakengard 4 if we're lucky.

It never was going to be Automata 2 because Yoko Taro doesn't do direct sequels and Automata doesn't need it,
Oh yeah I definitely agree with you, I just keep seeing people elsewhere assuming that this morning's stream means that well see 2B/9S again and I'm like..........we've *already* gotten followups to automata with concerts and rein.

And then with Geoff's retweet I'm just like UGH NO.

You mean like Octopath 0?
Retooled as a Console type experience so in a sense yes like Octopath 0. Though I was thinking instead of the turn-based system Reincarnation had it would just be turned into a Action Adventure game with character swap mechanics that happens seamlessly midfight.

Though I'd take Reincarnation in any form tbh. I really wish they had an offline version of the game like Capcom did for MMX DIVE.

I wouldn't mind see Nier Reincarnation fully remade from ground for consoles up but still tells the same story.

But don't Taro will be interested in type of project….he will far more interested making new Nier/Drakengard or brand new IP.

As Taro has said he goes through many projects and they tend to get canned or scrapped mid development so to a degree I think he defaults to new characters or settings since that would require lower investment.

When it comes to NieR and Drakengard each game generally introduces new characters. You have a timeline split at Drakengard split that leads to either Drakengard 2(Some recurring characters here) or NieR Gestalt/Replicant which then leads to Automata which for the most part are completely new casts of characters.

And I think unless Taro goes freelance he would have to make a new game IP if he was interested in another depressing narrative style game. Unrestrained by bad Square Enix decisions.

Yoko Taro is largely in the same position as Tri-Ace where Valkyrie Profile and Star Ocean always got shafted big time with budget and dev time.

It's pretty clear they have two choices, if they want to push sales, 2B will be in the next game, if they want the poor sales like every other game in this series, make it with new characters. The Replicant remake proved that 2b, was, is, and will always be why Automata sold so well. I love these games, but she is the face of Nier at this point and there isn't a close second.

Alright, question for those who are into this game:

I have always wanted to get into Automata. Finally started it recently and got up to the robot village. Talked to everyone there and I'm just past that doing some exploring before I put it down for a bit.

I know nothing about this game. I haven't read or heard any outside info. Should I just keep playing and take it as it presents itself to me, or is this a game I should look at a guide? I heard there are multiple endings. I'd like to push myself to see all the content it has a and really dig in, but I don't know if it's the thing where they don't guide you and assume you'll talk with other players or reference a guide to figure it all out.

I'm just looking to have the best experience I can with it.

Not saying I don't agree with you (because i do) but I think it's more than 2B. Yes, she's insanely popular but that's because of Squeenix's aggressive push to shove her into every collab imaginable. SEX sells and I trust them to create someone new. Rep1.22 was never gonna sell like hot cakes, it wasn't as flashy as Automata, it didn't have that Platinum shine. And while 2B is the most popular, I think Emil might be up there too. The face is in all marketing and Taro is never seen outside of it.

Or we could always do a 10H game. She's a direct followup to Automata, leads into the (most) lore relevant pieces of Rein before swapping over to Fio's followup. AND some might say she's hotter than 2B. Hell, squeenix is giving her her own figure now so they see she's selling.

If it's true we getting new NieR game then it been good year for JRPGs.

First we are getting brand new JRPG from Konami and ten brand new entry to .hack and now new NieR.

Say's "Automata" very specifically. The company has made a lot of money on 2B merchandising, character crossovers, and that like. The game has good word of mouth, endless cosplayers, influence across other games, and has cemented itself as a cult hit. 2B will be back, and I imagine the next game is going to a get big push as a tent pole Square Enix release.

They have many winning design from automata,
I went to some japanese anime events and there're almost always 9S and 2B cosplayers;
9S especially getting more recognition lately because he looks like child version of gojo satoru.

I'm in the same boat, bought this for around 20 bucks off ebay for switch 1 but never got around to playing it. Just saw that whatever bug for switch 2 has been patched. Will probably get to this after Xenoblade X playthrough

Imo, just go with the flow of the game. Guides will spoil the story for you.
There is chapter select unlocked at the end as well if you missed any quests/content.

There's a load of different endings, but you don't need to see them all to 100% the game.

one of the best games i've ever played. deserves way more sales than that.

fuck yeah.

seems like it was fixed a few months ago. only just realised thanks to your post. time to replay it again!
