You've been invited to help test the PlayStation®5 console System Software Public Beta. Your participation is very important to us and we look forward to receiving your feedback. Please note that because this is a beta, features, and specifications may change prior to the official system software release.

Main updates from this System Software Beta Program:

● Unicode 17.0 emojis are now supported. You can use them in your messages.
● We've improved the messages and usability on some screens.
● We've improved system software performance and stability

Caution when restoring to the latest official release version:

Note the following before restoring your system software to the latest official release version.
● After restoring the system software to the latest official release version, some games might not work correctly. If you experience any issues with a game, delete it, and then install it again.
● If you install the latest official release version before the beta program ends, some of your notifications will be deleted.

Please note: before you start, we strongly recommend that you back up your important data before downloading the beta software. By using this beta, you acknowledge that we are not responsible for any loss of data.

Please see below for more information on how to start the beta on your PlayStation 5 console and how to help us test the beta.

Your beta voucher code can be redeemed by up to five qualifying accounts, so feel free to share it with friends that you know are happy to receive it (they must be over 18 years old to participate).

Thank you for taking part,
The PlayStation® Team

Four more uses of the voucher code for anyone interested. Expiration of 30 April suggests that's when the new version goes live. PSSR 2.0 in this release, maybe?

Oh, testing PSSR 2.0 on PS5 Pro?
Im Out Shark Tank GIF by ABC Network

Worried too much about heat/cashing to beta test but can't wait for the full patch.

I got my invite as well!

Kind of useless for me right now as my Samsung OLED is down (Stupid flaky one connect box) hoping to have that replaced before RE9 drops.

Got my code from Sony, but I'm done updating my PS5. I'm holding steady for an eventual jailbreak, especially considering how much progress has been made in the last several months.

You guys think PSSR 2.0 will be a system level update? Seems unlikely IMO. Probably it will be patched per game.
Can't think of any reason it wouldn't be system level. The majority of devs already decided against updating their games to enable PSSR in the first place, forcing all devs to go back and release an update for every game to point to the new API only guarantees even less adoption.

They pretty much said it's "FRS4 based" since both were worked on in tandem and FRS4 results were from that partnership, so I expect it to be a system level thing.

Would make no sense otherwise in the whole Project Amethyst collab.

Major features like that historically don't get pushed into public beta either.

Emojis listed as the only explicitly allowed Unicode feature? I suppose they block most code points since you can probably evade the censors with them.

Thanks, however I get the same message with that as the one they emailed me. 🤷🏻

Interestingly I tried the one in the OP and I got a different message "This voucher code has already been used. Check what you entered and try again."
Yeah it's weird. On my ps5 it says wrong region, on website it says invalid or used. Maybe they screwed up the UK codes?

Considering it's going till the end of April, I have a feeling there is something more major on the backend.
might be in phases, but I don't think they would test PSSR 2.0 in a public beta, with no NDA
I installed and, just in case, tried games that have been recently patched like FF7Remake and DS2 - both don't even use PSSR - as well as FF77 Rebirth and GT7 - no change in both cases.
I then tossed the system up and it hero landed after a backflip, so it's more stable than ever.

Try the setting ps4 games enhanced or whatever it's named it's the "tiny PSSR" for improve the IQ on backwards games. If you notice an improvement let it know.

Because of this phrase "We've improved system software performance and stability" But to be honest, just gut feeling. And possibly, not just ps5 pro but also base ps5 sofware performance improvement.

That phrase has been used for many many years by PlayStation. There have been memes created for it.

Loaded up The Division with the setting on, looks as it did before. Lots of visible aliasing on power lines and other edges.

I also checked Monster Hunter Wilds, the grindstone at the smithy still has significant ghosting from PSSR.

For some reason I got one, even though my PS5 Pro has not been turned on in over a month. I don't really care for it, so here:

I'm in the UK.

Isn't that the same generic message with every new update?

it is... and it's always bullshit.

the OS as it is today is clearly slower as it was on launch. feature creep, and a degree of spaghetti code as stuff gets shuffled around made it less responsive over all over time.

always happens with consoles. yet they always claim "better stability and performance" in every patch 🤣

Imagine building an $800 console to waste the entirety of its 60% compute advantage on the worst upscaler ever designed.

Don't go expecting evidence of PSSR 2.0. Every title will need patching to use it.

Even subversions of 1.0 have only been rolled out via patching for the obvious reason that they can't run full QA passes on every game out there every time they upgrade the libraries.
