Why I Am Choosing Switch 2 For Resident Evil Requiem

Status
Not open for further replies.
I currently have a base PlayStation 5 and a Nintendo Switch 2 and I finally decided to purchase Resident Evil 9 Requiem on the Nintendo Switch 2, here is why:

-Base PS5 doesn't have ray tracing just like the Switch 2 version (which is a huge visual difference) so they are very close in gfx
-split joycon gyro controls for precision aiming (Leon is going to be a blast!)
-stable 40fps will most likely be patched in for S2 even though the 40/50fps dips dont bother me
-Scarcity of the physical Switch 2 version
-Price of the PS5 version will be discounted more and sooner than the Switch 2 if I decide to double dip.

If I did have a PS5 Pro, then my choice would be the PlayStation 5 version. What do you guys think?

Update:
Kinda Funny Games impression of split joycon gyro aiming on Switch 2. Its lookin so good boys!!

Forward to 44:07 in the video

Came here to laugh at you but those are mostly valid reasons. Since I am playing on PC I did not really look much into the console versions but S2 seems fine. Enjoy!
edit: Considering Switch 2 appears to have framerate problems, I retract my statement.

That's why I've avoided inferior Nintendo platforms. I'll stick to the occasional PlayStation 5 physical release and my PC and PC handheld. Switch to is a shadow of those. Enjoy that on switch 2

I also own both base PS5 and Switch 2, but I'm going with the PS5 version, I feel the visual quality difference matters to me in this case, I also don't see myself playing this in handheld mode.

It's fine if that's what you want to play it on but these points are questionable.

They aren't close on graphics, they're close in image quality because of DLSS on the Switch 2, graphically it's the inferior version to the PS5 version in every metric, the Digital Foundry video says just that.

I'd also be careful with the assumption that they'll patch in 40fps, that's only been done a handful of times and isn't the norm for devs to do that.

Genuinely sounds like you're trying to convince yourself that you're making the right decision.

Ask yourself this, if you were buying the PS5 version instead, would you be making a thread like this?

When you say they are close in image quality, but not in graphics do you mean that what your eyes perceive looks pretty similar but the technical specifications are far apart? Because who really cares about what's under the hood? If it looks good, it looks good.

I think your check is in the mail 🤔

Yeah, I kept going back-and-forth with which version I would get, but once I saw that digital foundry video and realized Ray tracing is not in the base PlayStation five version that sold it to me. I made this thread because I think there's a lot of people in the same position trying to decide which version to get.

Image quality is the resolution, the sharpness of the image, not the actual graphical quality of the in-game assets like textures and character models and things like that. The Switch 2 is upscaling the resolution from a lower native resolution than the PS5, but it's better quality resolution upscaling, so they look similiar, but you're probably going to get more visual artifacts like ghosting while the game is in motion since that's what tends to happen the harder a game leans into upscaling tech.

There is a night and day difference graphics, and smoothness. go watch some proper gameplay reviews the switch 2 version is not close IQ wise in motion and even DF says its close in stills. watch the full review and pay attention to how bad the graphics get late game on switch 2.

If you buy the Switch 2 version for the extra features, that's your choice. It might be the worst-performing version, but you get the handheld mode. But really... why do you feel the need to justify it?

I like Nintendo's stuff. I will not buy inferior versions when I have better option especially when the game cost the same. Hey, enjoy what you want.

I got rid of my Series X when the Switch 2 was announced, I bought it mainly for Nintendo's own first party games, but I do love the Resident Evil franchise and it looks pretty decent, plus you get RE7 and RE8 for £10 each in the generations pack, what's not to like.

Dang why are so many of you hating on the Switch 2 with such venom?

This thread was made for the 12+ million people that already own a Switch 2 contemplating which version to get. A place to discuss the reasoning of buying one over the other so people can make an informed decision.

So buying the worst looking and worst running version 'just because'…Whatever 🤷‍♂️ You do you
Unless you are playing on an ultra high spec PC with path tracing all the other versions are not as good. Consoles offer a trade off for plug and play. Now the PS5 Pro version looks very good, but in reality how many people outside core obsessives actually own one?... Most will be playing on the regular PS5... as most people just play the game and enjoy it, they simply do not care about graphics and framerates. If somebody wants the Switch 2 version and enjoys it... who cares.
