It was an incredibly smart strategic move to experiment with a custom upscaling solution in a Pro console. A mid-gen refresh is the perfect testing ground, lower risk, smaller install base, and room to iterate without defining an entire generation around first-attempt technology.

You don't want to launch a brand-new console generation still figuring things out and risk stumbling out of the gate. Refining advanced features like a proprietary upscaler ahead of time allows the next full generation to start polished, optimized, and developer-ready from day one.

Whether those other features come to pass or not (they may, who knows), why would you base your feelings on random leaks, regardless of where they come from? Leaks are nothing more than "nice to know" things, no one should ever base their hopes and dreams on them and no one should ever feel disappointed if they aren't true.

I found a reddit link which links to a thread over on ERA with every game and it's specific PRO enhancements but it's not able to be filtered by PSSR or anything like that. You'd have to go through it manually.

so how much performance it gives compared to fsr and dlls? someone said pssr2 cost 2ms requem runs at 60fps base 1080p it looks almost 4k native that is 16ms time frame so double resolution 16/2-2=6ms gained is this realistic for pssr2?

The non PSSR mode runs at double the framerate but 1/4 the resolution. So basically you are getting double the ms budget 16x2=32. So it's gaining 30ms. Which seems a lot but it's nothing compared to nVidia's draw a pixel and imagine 64 between DLSS and frame generation.

selecting "Enhance PSSR Image Quality" in Settings on PS5 Pro will allow you to experience the new PSSR with any PS5 Pro games that currently support PSSR! Once the system update releases next month, try it and see, some games may have noticeably crisper graphics.

Exactly and the fact it does have a system wide toggle but that only applies to pre-pro enhanced games....kinda meh.

Once again, buying Pro was a probably the best purchase of 2025. The gift that keeps on giving.

Paid $600 on sale when I bought it over a year ago.

Fast forward to today and that's now considered a "bargain buy" with what's going on with prices in the hardware tech world.

The new PSSR2 makes it so worth it.

Amazing achievement. With PC hardware prices through the roof, and games like Saros, Wolverine and GTA6 skipping PC this year, have to think some people will take a long hard look at the PS5 Pro.

Best value in gaming.

Further, given that PS6 (and next generation of GPUs) are still years away, and with cross-gen being very likely, the investment is future proofed to a significant degree.

I am PC first and PlayStation second. I've been shunning my launch PS5 for the last year. For the reasons you outlined, I just bought a Pro last week and got transfered over. Seems like a good time to reinvest in the PS5 of it's not going to be replaced for four more years, and the exclusives will take longer to make it to PC.

To be fair, any PS4 game with variable resolution or FPS gets a boost with the Pro. Games like Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk look noticeably better on the Pro.

But yeah, only games that have PSSR 1 will get the latest upgrade.

Keep in mind that todays announcement is to coincide with the Resident Evil release that makes use of this specific new feature. That doesn't preclude the possibility of other rumored enhancements also coming with this update in March. Only time will tell.

I was down on PS5 Pro when it came out (and yes I bought it day one), but I've come around on it and if this can fix some of those older games that's a huge win for the console.

Now we just need ddevs to use this instead of the other methods, because I think a lot of them didn't even touch pssr last year.

Read again. Look for the word "any". So all the games you listed above would see an automatic upgrade. But yea, like any software, hand tuning will allow maximum performance benefits. For example, changing denoising workflow, LOD levels based on performance uplift etc.

Well i'm sure we'll have 100 threads detailing changes over the weeks following release of the system update. If it works worse turn it off, if it's better leave it on. It's really not that big of a deal.

Yeah, it will work better when specifically optimized to work with the scaler. That's obvious to all of us and nobody is downplaying it. Given that we see how dll scaler swaps work in real time on PC, I think it's safe to expect that most games will have substantial IQ improvements on average even without specific enhancement support.

I'm totally for frame generation from 60 to 120FPS, results are very good on PC.

But from 30 to 60... Nooooo.

It's not exactly brute force
Iirc Sony introduced thin middle layer somewhere in PS4 gen so it can inject/replace features, instead of coding to metal that explicitly requires patches to change things. Like PS5/Pro can use it's extra power on non-native games for them or PSSR version can be changed on the fly.
But as games were not formally tested for new features - there is still a chance something go wrong and for this there is a switch and disclaimer.

Oh, 4.1 came out? Perhaps similar to the INT8 version of that then? Would explain the vegetation improvements while having some minor issues like less effective AA in motion, which I think the leaked INT8 version of FSR4 had.
