Resident Evil 7 and Village, Switch 2 Graphics Comparison

IbizaPocholo

NeoGAFs Kent Brockman

It runs at 1080p in docked mode and 900p in portable mode. Both modes benefit from a constant frame rate of 60 frames per second.

There are no noticeable visual differences between TV and portable modes. Only a few reflections and shadows have been reworked. In portable mode, Resident Evil 7 appears to have extremely sharp graphics.

Thanks, mods, for the title update.

The cloud version looks quite bad for what is essentially a PC version of the game running on RTX GPUs.

We've bundled together our expert mini reviews of Resident Evil 7 Biohazard and Resident Evil 8 Village for Nintendo Switch 2 into one digestible bundle for you lucky, lovely people.

// Joys
Successfully evolves RE7's first-person gameplay…
…but third-person is also available if you wish
Exceptionally well-paced
Varied enemies and environments throughout
Contains one of the scariest moments in series history

// Cons
Story and characters are a little throwaway
The Mercenaries mode isn't as good as previous instalments
Performance takes a hit in handheld mode

Genuinely don't understand how anyone tolerates wireless cloud gaming. Even with best-in-class wifi and all the predictive input tricks latency is noticeable on any game that isn't already a sluggish mess. Death of ownership to boot.

I bought 4 cloud games (Control, Hitman 3, Guardians of Galaxy and The Forgotten City) and TPS are the okay for cloud.

But why though? Do they run better than on hardware you own?

Now with the RAMpocylpse I could see people getting forced into it reluctantly.

Well Control did actually, it was the only console version running at 60 or 30 with RT back then

And for the other games, that was because the Switch was pretty much the only console I had

Kinda astonishing what Switch 2 can do with a 200mm2 SEC 10nm die at such a low power envelope. And a Switch 2 Pro with a 5nm/3nm shrink will go hard on battery life.

The 9th generation was wasted because of AMD. 100%.

  • Resident Evil 7 on Nintendo Switch 2 delivers spectacular performance that is on par with PS5.
  • The Switch 2 version has graphics settings more similar to the PS5 version, surpassing the PS4 version in virtually every aspect.
  • The only exception is the absence of Ray Tracing on Switch 2. However, this is not a significant loss considering that the improvements offered by this setting were not particularly noteworthy.
  • In fact, we can see how we lose some SSR reflections in PS5's Ray Tracing mode that are present in Switch 2.
  • In terms of performance, Switch 2 also runs at a stable 60fps.
  • Without a doubt, Resident Evil 7 on Switch 2 is a great option for new players.

The best industry "experts" with multi-million salaries claim that cloud gaming is the future and that you can throw away your obsolete consoles! 😂😂😂

Something's seriously off with reflections on PS5.
Very impressive performance overall for Switch 2.
I gotta say, I prefer how some light sources look on PS4. The fuzzy light around the light bulb and that flickering light in the basement are way more atmospheric in that version.

This simply isn't true.
Stadia, GeForce Now, PS Plus, XboxGamePass Streaming, Luna, Steam Link...these are all examples of services that run (or DID run in stadia's case) games over the cloud (well...with steam link there is some trickery) extremely well. Am I playing CoD or ArcRaiders via streaming, no. But I did play Doom Eternal, God of War, BG3, while traveling (even with a wifi hotspot) and they all provided me a fantastic streaming experience.

I get that people may be against this tech, that be for "death of ownership", lack of decent internet service, whatever your case may be, but to say the entire technology is unserviceable for everyone is a completely incorrect. This comment reads like you had a terrible experience with a cloud gaming service and think everyone has the same issue as you when that isn't the case. I FULLY admit that my use cases (great overall) are also not what everyone experiences.

I can stream my entire pc gaming library to my ultrabook with a 5g card in it from North Pole AK using my internet service back home and a old rig with a 3090 sitting in a closet running Moonlight and that's just COTS hardware.

I'm so excited to play these on Switch 2, especially 7 which I haven't played in several years. They will look so good on that big and beautiful screen 🤩

I've never beaten it. The car in the garage fighting that bastard was as far as I got.

I tried one streaming game on the NS2 (one of the resident evils) and God, while the IQ was OK-ish, the input lag was horrible, I'm talking about rubber banding and 1.5sec delay when turning the camera ...

...which is strange since both XCloud and PS remote play performed excellent for me.

Maybe it's the fact that I had my switch2 on wifi while I used my XSX and PS5 wired but, yeah...

Sigh...was looking forward to playing this over the weekend but my Generations pack was suddenly "Delayed in transit" from Amazon...that's probably code for "stolen by an opportunistic employee". Says it's still expected today. but I'm not getting my hopes up...😮‍💨

Knew I should've had a backup preorder just in case. This thing is gonna be $150-200 easily on 2nd hand market

  • This comparison focuses on showing the differences between Switch 2.
  • Switch 2 shows a higher level of detail and resolution compared to Xbox Series S.
  • Unlike XSS/PS5, Switch 2 does not feature Ray Tracing, and this is especially noticeable in ambient occlusion.
  • In terms of performance, Switch 2 has a higher frame rate than Series S with RT enabled, but it does not reach 60fps.
