Sony alone cannot be market leader

This list is BS.

1. MS are already expensive with current gen, next-gen will be far worse if it goes ahead.
2. PS+ is less than half the cost of Gamepass.
3. The leaks show otherwise.
4. Xbox already tried increasing the price of games, PlayStation did not.
5. Again PS+ is far cheaper at $160 per year vs $360 for Gamepass.
6. That's an Xbox exclusive feature.
7. Studios will still be making games as that is their job and they'll still be doing deals with 2nd party too.
8. Dev costs will be cheaper with Xbox gone.
9 & 10. You realise they can't undermine themselves to sell right?
I guess we'll get to find out. Atari comes to mind when I look at Playstation's future. Ohh and they dominated too!

Sony doesn't run a tyranny where people are forced to buy their stuff, that's a super simplistic take.

PlayStation just played the market game and beat a competitor that was openly trying to crush them. Those leaked Phil Spencer emails during the Activision deal showed where the real arrogance was talks about pushing Sony out and even buying Nintendo to destabilize the market. That's how you make everyone dependent on you. And even in third place, we saw MS raising prices on services and products after the Activision/Blizzard deal.

Sony beat Microsoft like a shonen anime protagonist, fighting a giant monster with unlimited money and still winning because they won over consumers.

Their best gen was PS2 with barely any competition. They screwed up early PS3, then rebuilt by massively expanding their IP portfolio. That comeback wasn't because of Xbox or Nintendo, it was because they had to win back consumers.

Bottom line: consumers moderate Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, and PC. They decide PlayStation's fate. It's Sony's most important business, so they fight hard for approval. If they mess up, it's life-or-death correction mode. And honestly, there's no better leader than a company that needs the gaming market to survive and only Sony and Nintendo are really like that. They'll keep trading leadership, and PC/console hybrids from different brands will show up as third options. In the end, the market balances itself out.

Why do you think they screwed up so badly early on in the PS3 generation? Perhaps because they became entirely overconfident after dominating the previous generation. They saw Sega implode, Nintendo leaving the home console power race to make the Wii, and didn't view Xbox as being a threat.

They changed course during second half of PS3(and more importantly at the start the PS4 gen) because they were losing consumers to the competition. Xbox went from 24 million previous gen to 85 million during 360. Sony went from 160 million PS2 to around 90 million PS3.

I would argue they did an amazing job during the PS4 years because they wanted to win back consumers that had left and bought a 360 the prior generation.

However, Sony will still obviously be facing competition within the video game market. They will likely be alone next gen in regards to the traditional home console market but Sony doesn't make much profit on the hardware itself. They want consumers spending a significant amount in their ecosystem. Obviously, most people don't have infinite funds and have to be selective. Money spent on Steam, Nintendo, or even mobile trash likely means less money for Sony.

Since when is sony the market leader? Maybe if you want a Blu-ray/DVD/CD player that can also play games just like all the other PlayStations then yeah they cornered that market.

Sony looking for a home for their game output.

They are the game console market leader. 1st party output doesn't have to be great, they just have to be good enough. PlayStation had always been about great 3rd party studio relationships, been the case since PlayStation 1.

You don't have to like them in order for them to be leaders. Just as Microsoft is the industry leader of PC OS, no matter how much hate they get. Being the industry leader is a factual thing and not based on emotions.

Here's someone who knows what their talking about! I worked in a Game store when Nintendo was #1 The store has gone thru many changes and several names changes since then. You know it as Gamestop, I knew it as Software Etc. and yea, back then Nintendo was king! You talk about E3 and what it could be I lived it. I can tell you this, E3 was a hell of lot more fun than these half baked shows your getting now! Nintendo always went all out back then, the Nintendo Booth was the place to be for fun. We get none of that now.

Nintendo isn't Sony stop kidding yourself! Nintendo's been the big dog before but, its been ages since that happened! Speaking as a Nintendo fan!
What are you even saying at this point? Did I mention Nintendo anywhere? Or are you replying to someone else but clicked reply on my post by accident?

Every market has someone or some company as market leader, that's how a market works. And not to blow Nintendo's dick, cause fuck Nintendo anyway, but they just finished a generation selling as many consoles as the PS2, literally the best selling console of all time... sounds like they might be the market leader actually :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Because they are so arrogant and stupid, just think of the ps3 days. Hell even on ps5 right now we see barely any good first party titles

These companies need the competition from eachother, yes MS has been flailing around like a headless chicken for years, but to hope for MS to fully quit Xbox is like giving Sony the keys to the Mansion and saying "go wild"

Unless you want monthly psn subs to become crazy expensive, Sony not caring about their core players etc..

Competition is HEALTHY for consumers. We WANT these companies fighting for our wallet.
Absolutely agree with you, in fact i recently made a video deep dive on my YouTube channel about the Sony Arrogance.. it has returned just like during the PS3 era and with no competition.. will they even care to change? Competition is healthy, its why we need Xbox to also do well. Nintendo will always do well.. But
we really do need a healthy console market, competition breeds excellence. I cover every gen of PlayStation in my video and love Sony just as much as Nintendo and Xbox. I am after all the Every Platform Gamer and game on every platform, but have spotted that arrogant Sony signs... and its not looking good.

And who's fault is that? Microsoft.

And when you blame them as you should, and they go away, that is when fresh competition will appear.

I totally agree, they have failed to compete. No one else is at fault, Nintendo at least has carried on carving out their own niche, Microsoft has continued to flip flop from one idea to another. They seem like they just don't know what direction they want to commit to. But i don't agree with the sentiment that they should go away..
Who else will compete with them? if Microsoft is gone.. Sony will only end up worse as will have even less competition. Maybe Steam machine? Nintendo is just not interested in that sense, they do their own thing, always have always will. And it works well for them. We need Microsoft to fight back. the 360 era bred competition. Sony was arrogant at the start but them humbled and we then get an incredible generation, this fed into the PS4 which was arguably the best generation! Sony was on FIRE. But in sadly Microsoft checked out.. and now again Sony is showing their arrogant signs. My video goes over this very notion. We need competition as consumers, competition breeds excellence. this is just human nature.

Absolutely nailed it.. this is exactly what I mention in my video. PS3 era they were arrogant after the roaring success of the PS2. Then they had to be humbled.. then they made the changes needed and the PS3 ended up wining that generation. PS4 was the golden Era. PS5 is again that same arrogant SONY. this is undeniable, the focus on service games, the pivot away from Strong single player third person narrative driven games, the closing of Bluepoint.. how many TRUE exclusives have they really released? where is the naughty dog game? The switch 2 has been out less than a year and already has more true exclusives then the PS5 and Xbox Series combined... that says it all. Granted not all are AAA but exclusives nonetheless. At EPG I game on Everything and sadly I look over at PlayStation, a company I love and don't see that same PlayStation I love. I see that arrogant Sony I saw back at the PS3 launch. I want Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo to all thrive and be successful.
