The developer of Until Dawn Remake, Ballistic Moon, has officially been dissolved. Paperwork was filed with the UK government in February 2026.

Insider Gaming first exclusively reported in March 2025 that Until Dawn Remake developer Ballistic Moon had "effectively closed." This followed the layoffs announced in September 2024.

Now, the company has officially dissolved, according to a Final Gazette filed in February 2026. The Until Dawn remake was released in October 2024, and by December of that year, the company had quietly laid off the remaining staff it had kept on board to support the game after launch.

Shame for those working there.
But their only game was an unnecessary remake that I've seen many people claim is an inferior experience to the original.
So hardly surprising.

I played through the remake and it wasn't terrible. Certainly not as bad as the internet would make you believe. Most of the problems were just bugs; the game clearly needed another 6 months of polishing.

Shame to see them dissolved and I'm curious if the Until Dawn franchise is dead at this point.

A bit torn on this one, these people don't seem to be one of those devs that's been toxic towards gamers like other failed studios, but after seeing the quality of the remastered version of this game, they don't exactly seem talented enough to keep the doors open either, so I guess I'll just say, that sucks, hope they find something else they're better suited for.

I don't understand why they don't just remaster ps4 games, especially ones like this that aren't gonna sell enough to justify the way higher cost of a remake. Someone at Sony needs a reality check.

Can't sell a simple remaster at full MSRP.

How many days/weeks/months after an already delayed game releases is the player supposed to wait for patch fixes? Pre-rendered video that plays smoothly, not like 360-era UE Bink video.

Meanwhile a talented remaster studio like Bluepoint could've done one of their earlier, non-asset upgrade style remasters in a fraction of the time with polished performance on PS5, and PS5 Pro however many weeks later it released.

adamsapple adamsapple I was wrong, they just charge you a 10-20 dollar upgrade fee to get the remaster upgrade :pie_thinking:. You've got a point lol. It still seems like a silly policy to apply to EVERY Sony published game, though.

sony: our franchises don't die. the just go into stasis...

edit: remember how the 'synergy' between the movie & the remake was gonna shake the entertainment industry to its foundation? those were good times...

This studio was doomed from the beginning. No one asked for an Until Dawn remake and it's a project that wouldn't have really helped them to grow. You might think well if they did a good job Sony could've let them work on Until Dawn 2 right? Wrong because that was already happening at Firesprite. Not surprising at all to see them dead now.

Why did Sony think that game would sell for some reason that it would need a remake? So much money wasted.
They were using the same frame as The Last of Us remake. So they make an remake to sell for the people who watched the series/movie. And since these people are casuals, they will not go after an old game, they would want it only if it's a recent product, so they remade it for the PS5. Turns out the movie was utter garbage that didn't even tried to really adapt the game. Also the IP is not that strong by itself like TLOU.

They will probably do an PS5 God of War 2018 around the time the series release too.

heard the remake is pretty awful and running at 60fps and serves no purposes except new scenes?

Well, yes. Aside from Destiny 2 (on a downturn since TFS) and Marathon (out for less than a week), those 3 are the only SIE Live service games currently running.
thats why sony should stop with GaaS now, they are not going to hit another jackpot again. Marathon is heading to the grave.

The sequel is rumoured to be developed by Firesprite.

Fair enough, hope it works out. They're currently busy helping with Star Citizen so .... Yeah ...

Did the remake really swap out fixed cameras for over the shoulder? Sounds like a terrible design choice if true.

Right, they also change the lighting in some scenes which works poorly for the atmosphere.

This was among the first few titles Sony saddled with a PSN account requirement and it suffered at launch accordingly. Another executive decision that screwed the developers. They later reversed the decision and made it optional (via. the FAQ) but never bothered to update that on the store page.

.... because Concord was a disaster and Sony cancelled all of their other in-development projects. And Marathon is looking like another failure.

Sony(and other publishers/developers) have cancelled a bunch of games. Including a bunch of live service games. Games get cancelled all the time. Including single player games.

It's not exactly a secret that Sony's GaaS initiative was a failure.

To be fair, that was likely something they were contracted for, they may have had no work and little choice in the matter. If they own the IP and they choose to do that, i sorta get it. Its a small project, gets them lots of funds quickly for them to continue to work on some of their other projects etc.

Sucks they couldn't make it work out, I really liked Until Dawn.

True, remaking Until Dawn probably wasn't their idea, so you can't blame them for it.

But still, I think if your only project is a remake of a last gen game and the general reaction to it is "just play the original", that doesn't inspire confidence in the studio.

The least I would expect is something like "hey this feels unnecessary, but if you haven't played it this is unquestionably the version to get "

This is where it fell apart. The game was fine, but why would you play this as your first one? Or - aside from morbid curiosity - why would you play the new one if you've already played the old one?
