KeplerL2: "Both Xbox, PS6 and PS handheld are still in track for Holiday 2027"

Cool. I hope there isn't world halting pandemic!

$2000 traditional consoles and another $999 handheld that has limited storage with the majority of its grunt coming from the cloud...JFC dire times ahead.

PS4 Pro was the same price as launch PS4. PS4 Pro was also cheaper than the PS3...

What's the target base and sales for PS6? Is it the same as PS5 Pro and meant to attract 10-20% of the install base of base PS5? Sure, it will be more expensive.

If PS6 is meant to have 100M lifetime sales, it will be priced accordingly to achieve that which means the current price of PS5 pro is irrelevant.
I honestly think companies are shifting gaming to become a "premium hobby". It's sad but it will probably happen.

When the outrage over a $800 PS6 happens, Sony will say "we have a product for people who can't afford our new console, it's the PS5". And then crossgen will last 5 years.

Not with the current RAM prices. Unless they want to lose tons of money.

This is pure physics, GPU size will be similar but newer node costs more and 30GB of GDDR7 is MUCH more expensive than 16GB of GDDR6.
And let's not forget that NAND cost also more than doubled. The likely 2TB in PS6 will not be inexpensive either.

I am glad. 1 more year and half of suffering before we get something better.

if the PS6 was gonna be a 2028 system, i would have kinda had to go and buy a PS5 pro to play the exclusives. But I can wait till 2027.

The wallet though.. its not gonna be happy. between the PS6, maybe handheld, 6090 maybe ? ... yeah i am going to get divorced...

Time to start saving money on the side from now lol.

Why? The PS5 was more expensive than the PS4 Pro.

It will be cheaper, I can guarantee that.

I think(my opinion, of course) that a lot of us view 2027 as such a "weird" time for PS6/Xbox because 2020-2022 with COVID isolation and all of the issues it presented across...basically everything, just completely fucked up everyone's sense of time.

I think there's been several articles I've read about it, not just in terms of gaming.

What's up with the unnecessary hostility, lol?
I meant it in jest nothing personal.

However I would prefer ps6 be a big jump up from ps5 pro so another two years in the oven would be better for me. Otherwise might as well wait for ps6 pro.

As for peak sales in 2024, we'll have to see the gta6 effect. Its safe to say we won't be seeing anywhere near the year on year decline of the ps4 when launch aligned. As we reach the era of diminishing returns, hard enough to get ps4 owners to migrate to ps5.

Not so much, given that they would need to ship development kits very soon.

There's probably no downside in sending dev kits out even if there's going to be a delay.

It's unlikely the specs would be better with a delay. The launch price might be slightly better.

Not only they're not going to change the specs they already spent billions of R&D on, but they're also not going to renegotiate their TSMC contracts for the SoC manufacturing in Q2 2027. It's kinda insane to suggest.

It will not completely reverse the decline, let alone make FY26 the peak in hardware sales.
Its safe to say we won't be seeing anywhere near the year on year decline of the ps4 when launch aligned.
This was always going to be the case given the COVID impact on PS4 production for FY20.
As we reach the era of diminishing returns, hard enough to get ps4 owners to migrate to ps5.
It has not really been the case, each FY there are several less users on PS4. If this were the case, Sony would not even present it positively to investors, lol.

There are no annual GPU's again until 2027...and current gen (read: old) gpus cost $4500.

Well hey prior to now every year there was a new GPU. No one had problems buying then. Point is consoles have a new generation every 6-7+ years. I'm just saying GPUs annually is as senseless then anything else but I see no complaints about it.

This is not based on anything tangible, outside of the price of the PS5 Pro, which was profitable for Sony on day one. You know what wasn't profitable on day one? PS5. And they lost money on it for years. Why would Sony purposely choose to lose money for half a decade for one device, and be profitable day one for another?

It's almost as if each device has a different target audience or something, I dunno

So glad I switched to PC, even if none of the Xbox and Playstation 1st party exclusives this generation came to PC. this has easily been the worst generation for true first party exclusives since either company was created, so I still would've switched to PC

If the PS6 really launches in 2027, Sony has to deliver a massive PS6 showcase.
Yeah, the reveal event in spring of 2027 is lined up to be a great one:
  • Gran Turismo 8, Marvel's Spider-Man: Venom and the next Team Asobi game, all likely to be launch titles from first-party.
  • The third entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, the Resident Evil Zero and original Silent Hill remakes, and the Stellar Blade sequel, from Eastern studios and publishers.
  • Probably an in-engine first-look at Physint, which is coming farther down the line, and certainly whatever second game Naughty Dog has been working on for the past four years.

I don't expect much hoopla around a PS6 launch in 2027. I could be wrong, but I don't feel a strong desire in the fanbase for a PS6, and I think that will translate to weak sales (well, weaker than PS4 and 5).

Then again, I don't know that delaying it to 2028 would help them all that much, either. I suppose if they're ready to go in 2027, and that's what they planned on, they might as well. *shrug*

They would delay it only if it meant offering a more competitive launch price

Otherwise it would be pointless
