The wrist watch thread.

THese colored dials really need a matching color date wheel. I have a similar looking watch that does have a matching date wheel and it's far more elegant looking IMHO.

Here are some examples to show what I mean.

Got a Gshock GA-2100-7A and a Tissot PRX PM 80 40mm (green dial) during Xmas, happy with both of them but...G'damn, I knew that i should have gone with the quartz PRX, I don't wear it everyday so most of the times I have to keep winding it and that, for me, is a ballache...

Now, i wanted a Hamilton khaki field since always and...they made me a deal I couldn't refuse 😁
Quartz this time, MSRP is 650 Eurodollars in Hammie's site (not that big of a difference compared to the automatic tbh), can be found for 550 on 3rd party sellers but, i got it for 400€ new - a deal I couldn't pass obviously...
This silver 40mm dial model got discontinued in 2023 so I'm lucky I've found one...

Ordered a NATO beige/khaki strap from Amazon (Archer) and I'm waiting for it to arrive...

Now...
...now...
(fuck this hobby man)...
...I'm thinking of getting another one and I'm between these :

Hamilton Khaki field quartz - same as the one I already got but with a black dial and black PVD coating (H68401735)
orologio-hamilton-H68551733-khakifield-sforza-gioielleria-bologna-steso1_1200x.jpg

I know it's kind of stupid basically getting the same watch twice but, that's a sexy black watch...

Then there's the Bulova Lunar Pilot
shopping

I don't know if I can pull off that 46mm diameter monster but, it's the only one that still comes with both a bracelet and that Nato-ish strap, the newer 43mm only comes with a metal or leather bracelet I think.

Finally - and this is an out of production model - the Longines Conquest V.H.P 41mm (L3.716.4.56.6)

That dial, love it...
The fact that it has this (quartz) mechanism where it puts the watch into "power saving" mode when not in use and then the hands autoadjust when wearing it again is great and has a perpetual calendar, truly a "set and forget" watch...

Prices vary but I found it on ebay for 670€ new (apparently) and I just don't know.

Anyway, I think I got the bug®, FML

So, bruddah, weird question. I notice your photos you and I have similar arm hair. What is your experience with metal bands vs your arm hair?

I bought this Seiko watch that I loved (the design) back in my early 20's that had a metal band that played hell on my wrist hairs. Constantly pinching and pulling hairs. I did not have it sized to be tight so it would dangle a little and I could easily flip it to top or underside wrist but not loose enough to fall off. It put me off of metal bands forever though.

I did not have it sized to be tight so it would dangle a little and I could easily flip it to top or underside wrist but not loose enough to fall off. It put me off of metal bands forever though.

As you can see from the photos, I wear my watches slightly tighter and a bit lower on the wrist than usual because I absolutely hate a watch moving or jiggling around. That approach may not work for everyone though as it depends on wrist size, mine is about 16.5-17 cm. Not all bracelets behave the same and some simply never feel quite right on the wrist no matter how carefully you size them.
One advantage of wearing them a little tighter is that they do not pull arm hair, at least in my case, not at all.
Some people have complained that the Tissot PRX bracelet becomes uncomfortable after a few hours (mainly because of the butterfly clasp) but I have not experienced that and I have worn the watch for an entire day without any discomfort.
The Hamilton Khaki Field bracelet however is even more comfortable in my opinion because it tapers more nicely than the PRX bracelet. The downside is that it is noticeably more jiggly and noisy when you move or shake your hand - and that is on the quartz version, on the auto model the bracelet is even more articulated so it's even more noisy 😁

In short, if you are having issues with hair pulling, try adjusting the sizing more carefully.
Cheers.

Talking of watches I was getting the piss takin in work the other day because I wear mine on the right whereby everyone else wore there watches on the left, it's annoying especially considering my daily driver is a Samsung 6classic and when I fold my arms I always tuck the watch under the arm and naturally activate it which is a right pain, but man I've tried to switch the watch to my left wrist and it feels so fucking unnatural I can't stomach it, am I freak outlier that needs to go hide in a cave or are there other misfits out there like me?

RJ, the watch community is already snobbish enough, stop caring and just...do you man, if It feels comfy on your right one so be it, it's your watch, use it however you want 😉

Which hand is your dominant one by the way ?

Ack it's all cool, we Irish so taking the piss is a cultural thing, it feels best on my right but as I said cause I cross my arms the other way the watch goes under which is an utter pain but for the life of me I can't fix it lol, I write with my left and lead punches with my right.. I know... Fecking disabled

Just got this. I've always wanted a watch with a green dial though I might get the same model again but the next time with a grey dial just because it would look more appropriately moon-y.

Ahhhh, Citizen...one of the most bang for buck brands out there.

One of the few known brands that can actually offer solar powered watches for as low as 150 bucks, meanwhile, for a Tissot, you'd have to shell out 500 minimum...

Beautiful man, enjoy 😉

PS : green dial watches are really something...

There are flipped design mechanical watches, meant to be worn on the right. It feels really wierd to me but its not outright heresy :p

I wore mine on the right for a while, as got a sore on my left wrist, so switched to let it heal and stuck with it for a few years. Finally went back to the left recently and it felt wierd, and still check my right wrist sometimes for the time.

On the watch front, got my eye on a few Christopher Wards I wouldn't mind, as fancy adding a GMT to my collection and these are reasonably priced and wouldnt need to declare it on my home insurance. My next big watch would be either a Rolex date just or Omega aqua terra, but that will be a few years away, maybe for my 50th (fuck, that makes me feel old).
