Why brazil recently so active in video games? Or maybe i just dicovered they are very active lately.

Beside, why nexus mod need it? It's already hard to mod for normies, let alone commond under ages

Literally. Politicians passed the law.

I'm fine with the law in principle - obviously no jurisdiction will ever actually pass a clean bill for any of these.
My issue is with those companies they're using for verification. Absolutely 0 trust from me.
We're supposed to keep politics out of the forum but it keeps finding its way in.

If it's just for Brazil's laws then fair enough. As long as it doesn't spread globally and mess with the modding experience for everyone else.
Laws like these are being passed everywhere at the same time. UK, Brazil, US States, and soon Europe.

This is coming to everyone and it's crazy to need to verify your face to download a boob mod. What the fuck.

The biggest issue isn't even the verification. The biggest issue is that they are all using some sketchy 3rd parties which keep getting hacked. See Discord for latest example.

If governments want to do it they need to get platform holders (Apple, MS, Google) to provide these services without releasing info to Discords of the world.

Of course then you have politicians like the morons in CA requiring age verification on all OS… which would include Linux. 🤦

That law at least for now isn't really an age verification law.

It requires:
- The OS asks for the users age (no actual verification)
- The OS provides an API for returning if the user is in one of 4 age buckets (under 13, 13-16, 16-18, or over 18)

But I could see it eventually extending to real age verification.

Remember "A series of tubes?"
But yeah, these people are either incompetent or malicious.

The issue is they absolutely will extend to age verification. And it's probably the right capability to have… but not in Open Source projects like this…

You are wrong to assume they are morons. They know exactly what they are doing (or at least being guided by people who want a certain outcome). They don't want any open systems out there any more where they don't have control over. And it's a matter of couple of years until they will reach their goal. Expect secure boot mandatory in the upcoming couple of years.

You might be right. I am assuming stupidity but it could be a malicious intent.

In the end that would always be a giant loophole for people, but I do agree I think it should be kept to commercial products.

I don't really like the overall direction any of this is going, but it also doesn't really make sense that every kid has access to the entire internet of porn and "adult" shit.

The internet is both amazing and was kind of a mistake.

I got hit with this today. Already ran the verification, you can keep the key in your device for use in other apps. If another site requires verification, you can use this AgeKey (they're calling it) instead of doing it every time.
