Starting today, more games benefit from new PSSR upscaling on PS5 Pro

Today's PS5 system software update introduces broad support for the upgraded version of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), delivering enhanced image stability, improved clarity in fine details, and more consistent performance across supported titles.
PS5 Pro, developers now have more flexibility in adjusting the balance between performance and image quality.

Tried dragon's dogma 2, the ray tracing is still broken. Perhaps it's less broken than before?

The grass still blurs as well. But I'm not sure if that is a pssr issue, or just a quirk of the game.

At least the game is super sharp now.

This is getting a bespoke pssr 2 patch from capcom, maybe that will fix it :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Thank you. But will there be any improvement for PS5 games that didn't have PSSR1 to begin with?
Its unlikely but not impossible some of those games getting specific updates come with optimisations or not. I wouldn't hold my breath.
This pssr stuff is primarily all about the pro.

Space Marine 2 is a massive improvement. The image is very stable, no more noise.

The light beams from headlights render with no flickering now.

No flickering on vegetation anymore.

GT7 is definitely sharper, less noise?
The RT wheels is the garage definitely improved. Something a lot of people complained about.
Going to have to reinstall cyberpunk ready for the update im thinking.
Looking forward to all the feedback and comparisons.

Tried Alan Wake 2 in Balanced Mode, reflecting metallic surfaces still have a little bit of noise but overall looks sharper. Tried Control in Quality Mode, I don't know if it's becase I haven't played it in a while but it looks much cleaner.

System software updated.

Do the games mentioned above need the patches to work with PSSR2 or I just need to toggle on the PSSR enhancement in system settings?

Hey assholes, can at least one of you stop jerking off and post some comparisons?

imagination jerking off GIF

Please?

I can't tell the difference in SH2 quality mode. Do I have to restart the system each time I toggle?
Prior the firmware update, I remember the beginning of the Game looking very bad, definitely worse than the performance mode because of the shimmering. I did some testing turning off the toggle without restarting the console but it seems that it does not affect the looks of this Game, but it definitely got fixed...

Games announced in the blog yesterday/today have automatically applied the new PSSR even if you have disabled the new toggle

Silent Hill 2 is fixed. FIXED!! Praise the lord!🥲 In quality mode at least. Flickering in foliage shadows and fog is gone. Reflections in puddles are clean and without noise. Game looks cleaner/clearer/sharper than before. I'm so happy.
With the last of us 2, the difference is of course less extreme, but that also looks clearer. Flickering shadows in distant foliage is still present.
Jedi Survivor is a lot sharper now in performance mode and noise on surfaces is gone.

3 am for me so only a couple of quick tests.
  • Battlefield 6- My most anticipated game to test and holy cow does the image look much sharper and more crisp. Super impressive and it looks like a native 4K image now (only tested the balanced mode).
  • Control - when the PSSR update first came out, I really wasn't impressed with the IQ. Between the fuzziness and RT noise, there were just too many issues with the image where I found it distracting and didn't want to play it. Now the game looks much more pleasing. The RT noise remains but the fuzz and blurriness is now gone resulting in a much sharper and higher res looking image. Now I found myself staring at all the glorious RT reflections whereas before, the IQ issues outweighed them. However, I did still notice some upscaling artifacts evident with fast camera movement and on some thin cables in the environment. So upscaling is not perfect but it is much improved and the game still looks glorious now on the Pro.
  • AC Shadows - tried this briefly and….something looked off with the image. I saw artifacts that I didn't see at all in my 70 hour play through and there was a weird instability to the image. Overall, I would this one looked worst with the toggle…which is why I think the developers are doing a patch for this one. I suspect there are some aspects to the game that needs some tweaking to play nicely with the new PSSR so WAIT FOR THE PATCH on this one
Side note: anyone notice an increase in smoothness to some of these games as well? bF6 and Control felt buttery smooth in a way that I don't recall previously

I think I can confirm this. Did quick checks on Days Gone Remastered, Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster and Horizon Forbidden West and all feel smoother when moving the camera and running around.
Could be placebo?!

Ghost of yotei looks clean and sharp, switching to RT pro 60fps with unlock frame rate rather than balance 40fps with higher res given how clean it looks. Its like a DLSS upgrade with newer model where balance looks as good as quality
