To be fair he is generally the best part of DF for me.He can create his own channel.

TL;DR: John Linnemann is a married father who has crash outs on social media.lol I don't even understand what the drama is about
Anti-AI crusaders are more radical than religious zealots.
At least 4 pages full of people (or bots).Cue "oh my god, who the hell cares" Peter Griffin.gif
AI has loads of uses, some good, some bad.Whenever I see someone praise AI I just know they work in tech and have their salary riding on this new religion.
It's all just Nvidia marketing for now and DF are a part of it hook, line and sinker. Wait until you see all the drawbacks in actual full length games. I doubt it's implemented any time soon anyway.![]()
I'm supposed to be mad at this generational improvement?
Sorry for the off-topic but did you had the chance to test the new ndivia driver for crimson by any chance?Every fucking with this guy. He gets a little bit of friction in his life and gets all suicide watch mode.
Brother perfectly encapsulates his soft ass generation.
-Has a meltdown
-Sympathy gained
-"Im fine now everyone. Thanks for the support"

Yup. And in a world where clicks and engagement are worth more than anything, the people who can't be trusted, in my book, are the ones who say DF can't be trusted simply because they reported on a newly announced tech. I mean, that's their bloody job. And every single one of those fuckers saying they aren't credible or can't be trusted would have done the exact same if Nvidia called them up to give them an exclusive.People are getting way to worked up over this. Both John and those complaining about DF.
And so what? Thats is what I do not understand... like what's wrong with people? NVIDIA has worked on a new tech or tool, and devs are already using this tool. And then DF "reported" on this tool based on whatever media material they received from Nvidia. It's all just Nvidia marketing for now and DF are a part of it hook, line and sinker.
And again... so what? Of course, there will be drawbacks. Same way there were drawbacks with DLSS when it was first launched. Does that mean it's not innovative tech? That it won't get better? That there isn't a right or wrong way to use it?Wait until you see all the drawbacks in actual full length games. I doubt it's implemented any time soon anyway.
Disappointed that we aren't hating AI like bluesky? alex should have been fired ages ago.I always respected John unparalleled passion and appreciation for videogames in all of their facets, so of course this reaction is expected. I would image even Alex position has to be similar, despite the kind of Nvidia coverage we usually get from him. Disappointed by the posts in this Thread.
Linnerman is too emotional to work in a public-facing industry. It's even clearly evident in his "artsy" style in tech reviews. And his apparent need for validation is scary and outright unhealthy.I was the first to mock Linneman mercilessly only because of his physical appearance, but after his glowing praise to crimson desert the other day and now this i'll have to reevaluate my stance on him...
Who would have thought Nerdy Kong was the coolest member of the Kong family
I appreciate and respect his obvious love for the videogame art form... but that also makes him suck at being able to be dissociative when reporting on just pure tech. Which is what this is really about.I always respected John unparalleled passion and appreciation for videogames in all of their facets, so of course this reaction is expected. I watch DF exclusively for their coverage of the tech and not their thoughts or opinions on the actual game. Eg... you think I would listen to what anyone says about an open world game when said person generally described them as a press up simulator (or something along those lines). Hence its no surprise to me when the same person heaps praise on a game that has done absolutely nothing new or different to most other open world games that came before it.I mean... most their coverage in recent years has been ad-like.
The only footage of theirs is still consume is when they do a deep dive into retro things.
Look at their crimson desert coverage, 100% just marketing, they did a video of "exploring the world map" they even parroted the very clearly paid for marketing "it reminds me of red dead 2". Which is obviously in crimson deserts marketing campaign (literally all influencers covering it say that line).
DF didn't do a "exploring the world" video for most other open world games.
Long story short, besides their retro and tech stuff, most their content is bought for and paid these days

But since that didn't happen, the only way they get any kinda attention now is to try and shit on DF. And some people are eating that shit up.

How is that different from what absolutely any other outlet does when it comes to reporting on tech? How is it any different from them getting some media B-roll material on some game? Its not DF place nor obligation to speak to the ethics of such tech or tools at the time of its reporting. That's for everyone else to do. Like, no one ever heard of not hating the messenger?

It's impossible to have any form of constructive discussion when people are only interested in knee-jerk hot takes.
Nobody is saying they should mention ethics but completely ignoring the issues with it like the completely different interpreted textures, the bad occlusion artifacts, or the incorrect lighting and only pushing nvidia marketing for it is not what you expect from an outlet reporting on tech. They were flown out there and became a marketing companion for nvidia. For tech that might not see the light of day for some time. And so what? Don't stop there. I want games to cost $600 million to make which essentially makes them Fortnite and Roblox clones because no publisher would fund it otherwise.I'm with John. I want games to take longer and longer to make until the GTA's of the world take 3 generations of consoles to complete.
Honestly... if he did a noclip docu-style retro coverage channel or like LGR style retro reviews id watch that.I think John should consider moving on from DF or quitting all together.
There is a difference between a review... and a report. You know that, right?Nobody is saying they should mention ethics but completely ignoring the issues with it like the completely different interpreted textures, the bad occlusion artifacts, or the incorrect lighting and only pushing nvidia marketing for it is not what you expect from an outlet reporting on tech. Obviously this isn't the only time the tech would be talked about but stating its current shortcomings in a report (you can do that on a report btw) shows its current progress and gives readers a sense of where the tech is currently and maybe even a ballpark when to expect it to be "production ready". That isn't soon based on what I had to gather from the internet due to lack of real reporting from DF. It didn't show that the shortcomings associated with generative AI have been overcome. It showed short clips with little motion away from the scene. That's not to say the tech isn't cool or that it's not going to get better but pointing out the shortcomings/challenges should absolutely be part of the report, not just be some nvidia marketing material. There is a difference between a review... and a report. You know that, right?
And why are we going on like this is the only time this tech will be talked about. What does it say about the people that are told about tech and then instantly go into ridicule and damnation mode when they dont even yet understnd the tech?
When games actually release with this tech, then we can go from reporting on the tech to reviewing the tech. Then we can talk about its shortcomings and where improvements can be made or its limitations.
Again, please look at DLSS 1 vs where DLSS is at today. Its like people arent learning.... doing the exact same thing they did then.
It embarasses to see a thread like this on "enthusiast" forum. Some seem to love gossip and drama more than games for sure. It literally doesnt matter if these people collectively jumped off a skyscraper right now, they are irrelevant when it comes to videogames, let alone their feelings and opinions.
Please admins, make a separate gossip eceleb drama forum.
I hear you. But I disagree. True, but that is every vg "journalist" in a nutshell.Linnerman is too emotional to work in a public-facing industry. It's even clearly evident in his "artsy" style in tech reviews. And his apparent need for validation is scary and outright unhealthy.
Damage control. They're trying to salvage this trainwreck by pushing agenda that it's not DF that is "bad", but a few individuals responsible for shilling DLSS 5.
Well... that's true. And is the only reason I tolerate him. I appreciate and value his technical knowledge, even his artsy style... at least that part is unique. His crash outs though, that's a different matter, because I don't understand how anyone chooses a career in media but then expect everyone to always be nice to him... or even reasonable.True, but that is every vg "journalist" in a nutshell.
At least he has technical knowledge.
