Starting today, more games benefit from new PSSR upscaling on PS5 Pro

My findings so far :
Alan Wake 2 - looks sharper but the same instabilities and strobing as before.
Nioh 3 - looks supersharp now. Sharper than quality.
Baldur's Gate - also super sharp. Big improvement.

Better seen in a 65" TV:

I can see why a crisp 4K machine for 800€ can be a threat to someone trying to sell overpriced cards. And while is not like they care since they are in the AI market now, it releasing a TikTok filter seems hastily and reactive.

Toggle works on demos as well. Pragmata (PSSR1 up, PSSR2 down):

PSSR2 completely fixed that terrible smear on hair (better seen on this picture):

Wow, that's a major difference. Looks native.

Bad luck? They knew how this looked like when they released it in November. UE5 games had problems from day one.
All these upscaling methods suck at v1. They rely on data and experience to improve. While I understand the frustration with launch ps5 pro we saw this with dlss v1 which totally sucked and fsr v1 which was and is totally horrible. Pssr v1 was flawed but usable in v1 at least.

I already explained that DLSS V1 and fsr V1 were completely different things...

PSSR1 was just like DLSS2, XeSS or FSR4 - ML reconstruction using multiple frames to resolve.

Fsr 1 was spatial upscaler, fsr2-3 are "dumb" reconstructions (like TSR) and DLSS1 - this one is super weird, spatial upscaler with machine learning I think?

It doesn't matter what the underlying methodology is, v1 of a software algorithm or model is usually going to have issues you have to iron out over time.

XeSs 1 sucked too

Which one is it??

I mean. You tell me.

Still has the same hair problems as PSSR 1. Looks like Tifa has Alopecia.

RE4 in HFR mode is a big winner though.

Image is very clean in motion. Cleaned up the shimmering and strobing of vegetation and trees. Shimmering around textures such as pebbles on the floor, the wet texture around puddles when approaching them. Jaggies on things like the first wooden bridge. Mid distance foliage. Wooden window frames.

The only downside is, it still has problems with the first sniper scope. It still breaks up too much.

Has anyone with beta system software been able to update to the new one? It keeps saying I have the latest beta version installed when I force it to check, but I'm wondering if it is checking only for a new beta version and not a new official version.

XeSs 1 sucked too

XeSS 1.0 released in 2022 and even at version 1, it looked better than FSR2 or any other TAAU solution. It only lost to DLSS2.
Also consider that what most people experienced of XeSS is the DP4A model. Not the XMX model, which is significantly better.
For a first effort, and considering it was only the second ML based temporal upscaler in the market, XeSS1 was quite good for the time.

Everyone elsewhere in the thread is saying you have to rollback from beta before you can check for and update to the new firmware.

Off topic, but is this luffy? I only watched till crocodile part. Are they going saiyan mode too?
Offtopic:
Luffy at Gear 5 at around the thousand episode. Its still a long way to go for you and but enjoy the journey on One piece anime. Its the best anime and manga since dragon ball and naruto for me. Dont skip. Allot of great things and very touching and memorable coming up after Alabasta especially skypia, water 7, ennies lobby, trailer bark, amazon lilly, marine ford, etc.

This is pretty great, gotta be honest. Tried a few games very briefly (work day here and my OLED is in direct sunlight so far from ideal) but it's a big improvement across the board. Of the games I've tested:

SW Outlaws: probably the biggest immediate improvement. Just looks way way sharper and more stable. This is a theme but the only real image quality issues is caused by RT reflections at this point.

SW Jedi Survivor: not quite as obvious, still very significant. Easily the clearest and best IQ I've seen in the game to date. Almost no aliasing. Have to really go looking for it, at which point, it's kind of problem solved really isn't it?

Spider-Man 2: not as obviously sharper (probably is, just not as immediately apparent) but the severe pixel crawling on fine edges that was all over the game before is maybe 80% fixed. Getting close to the point where you have to go looking for it. Again, RT noise is now the biggest IQ issue.

Alan Wake 2: pretty big improvement, but issues are still fairly apparent. Solves maybe 50% of the problem. Way sharper though.

Ratchet and Clank: only tried very briefly. Not certain this is actually an improvement tbh. Was already super sharp with the occasional bit of aliasing etc. from what I can tell the aliasing is improved but not eliminated but whether that's worth the lower settings and worse RT (I play on fidelity unlocked which is close to 60fps anyway) is pretty questionable. Although I guess you do get proper locked 60fps so there's that.

Overall, seriously impressive. Not sure what the internal resolution in Outlaws is on Pro at 60fps, but whatever it is it's enough for PSSR 2 to produce a beautiful final image. At least here, anyway.

Ok had a chance to look at this properly a while ago, got a good idea how everything stacks up now. In order:

Outlaws: not as dramatic as I thought at first. Definitely sharper and more stable, foliage is clear now etc. Looks a lot better, not a transformation though. 7/10

Jedi Survivor: wow now this IS the real deal. Brings out so much texture detail - amazing. Totally stable and sharp image, looks 4k from where I sit. 9/10

Spider-Man 2: IQ issues almost totally solved. I think it's actually sharper than the fidelity mode, if anything. Fantastic image. Only trade-off is worse RT. Definitely worth it for me though. 8/10

Alan Wake 2: as before, ok. 5/10

Ratchet & Clank: yeah does look better. Tested some problem areas for flickering etc, looks totally solved from what I see. Again, you lose some RT fidelity - quite a big loss imo. Overall image might be sharper but it's not obvious. Locked 60 is nice. Probably just about the best option now, but would be nice to get a patch that offered everything, because I think the overhead is there. 6/10

Also, tried the following:

TLOU 1: Very significant improvement. Easily the best IQ of all modes. Looks absolutely pristine, gorgeous game. Was already good, though. 8/10

TLOU 2: er not played this for a while. Forgot how muddy this game can look these days. I dunno, looks clean at least. 6/10

GT7: Looks clean and sharp. Already did in 4k though tbh. Maybe a minor improvement but I didn't play long. If you're into that cockpit mode I guess it's a big win. 7/10

Avatar: Again, looks clean and sharp. I'm not sure about this game's graphics. Sometimes I load it up and it looks breathtaking, others kind of messy and wildly inconsistent. Today was one of the latter. As an IQ increase, though, very decent. 7/10. Maybe 8/10 once I get more time with it in a nicer area.

Astro Bot: already looked great to me with the old PSSR. It probably does look better, but yeah it's not the same step as from the base game. 6/10

AC Shadows: fantastic improvement. Pin sharp in 40 and 60 modes. Still as gorgeous as ever. 8/10

Demon's Souls: the best till last! Wow was NOT expecting this! FINALLY this game looks right! I always kind of felt there was something SLIGHTLY off about this game's graphics. Now I know! It just never resolved the details before, even in native 4k. Really, really big improvement here. 10/10

People had mentioned some texture streaming issues after the last fix prior to PSSR 2. Noticed any?

Yeah a bit for sure. It's not generally a blemish that really bothers me though. Weird how some things you can just ignore and others are so painful. Pixel crawling/edge flickering is my pet hate. Anything else I can generally live with.

I have taken several screenshots and games on them look absolutely the same with toggle on/off, it's hard to spot any difference. While they look better in motion on actual screen... I think. Or maybe it's placebo? I wonder if they have black/white list for this or it works in every PSSR game.

Games from the yesterday list, ignore PSSR toggle, they are always using it.

Yeah, I saw that with Alan Wake 2. But all games in my ss I think look sharper in motion (vs. PSSR1) but you can't really see that on them.

I'm from Singapore and it's already the 18th of March, 110am and I still haven't received the update for my Pro. Anyone in Asia knows what's up?
